Mirrors Edge

Only halfway through the review, but I have to admit: it's very clear that Yahtzee didn't actually pay attention to the story at all during his playthrough. Yes the game is short, and yes the ending is a pile of shit, but almost everything he moans about being unexplained for the first 1:40 is...well... explained.

Maybe I'm being one of the members of team retard he talked about in the mailbag showdown... I mean I DID love this game from start to finish...shall I shut up now?

Edit: Also, he talks about having to turn around very slowly when hanging from a ledge or take a leap of 'faith' (puns lawl)...but there's a bloody "turn 180" button that works pretty much everywhere: wall runs, on the ground, in the air, hanging from ledges... the only time it doesnt is when you're only hanging one-handed. oddly.

Further edit: I never noticed ANY collision detection issues... I think it's quite clear that he doesn't want to like this game

I didn't even play the demo, only saw that one creepy thread about someone calling the shots a little bit too early.

Always makes you wonder how mere games can take up so much of people's time and consideration and then lead them to spouting stuff like "woooooooo! Game of the year! Must buy, nay, pre-order!" and stuff.

I'm wondering whether Yahtzee deliberately omitted the L from "Public enemy" at the end of the video.

I don't know, but sometimes it feels like Yahtzee just wants to entertain rather than inform. And some of his points do seem a little bit far-fetched, it does seem he really doesn't want to like this game in fear of becoming a populalist and its a shame since he has real talent.

Anyways, it was a funny review.

How many times did Mr. Yahtzee make a typo in all these years? Seriously now, I wonder when I last saw him misspell something.

I wasn't actually SERIOUSLY considering it, I mentioned it in case someone missed it. But yes, even He makes typos every now and then, especially in his novels.

Wait, didn't Yahtzee go nuts for lens flare when he first got Photoshop?

He spelled non sequitur wrong in one of Chris and Trilby strips.

I shall not link to it to retain some of my dignity.

The review was funny.

I think you are looking for uncritical criticism in the wrong place. Bile is part of Yahtzee's charm, he's more or less expected to hate things even if they do have a few redeeming features.

That's true and in retrospect I was maybe a bit harsh on his harshness, but I don't expect him to come out with straight lies.

I agree with ftr on this one. The review was good but in places YZ was just... wrong, as in incorrect.

DAMMIT I WANT MY HATE FILLED GAMING REVIEWS TO BE BETTER RESEARCHED.

Still, I enjoyed it for the other usual reasons (i.e. the bright colours and swearwords).

Everyone I know that has the game says they pretty much got bored of the game mechanics before they completed the game. Which, wouldn't be too bad, if it wasn't such a short game.

Wait... so getting bored of a long game would be better?

All I mean is, if you get bored in a short game, it must be REALLY boring, since in a long game, it does mean that it kept you interested for longer.
