I feel as though mentioning that I was selected as the first support moderator due to the fact that for the first couple of years I was one of the most active users lends some significance to my being here for five god-damned years. That thread where I ripped on bands also continued for well over two years, though with some infrequency toward its end.

Just being named a moderator isn't a good enough story. We need to time your selection to events, then turn it into some kind of gunfight at the OK corral scenario where you clean up the town. I think you got your star sometime during Hannibal, right?

JYAMG was great in the screening room and the one-panel-at-a-time comix. I had some classic disagreements with him over his insistence that the content be family-oriented yet breast-obsessed. In the comic thread, he consistently avoided innuendo (and one case of innu-ear-do) presented by Barend, turning the story wherever he could to the guys staring at Cynthia's boobs. He was an odd bird.

His SW stuff was pretty much NWS. I would read them at work but I always had to have the on the minimize button while fingers on my left hand hovered over 'alt' and 'F4'. There was a lot of flesh there. A LOT of Flesh.

I was suprised when he was offended by the monkey incident. But then they do have harsher censorship laws in Queensland so I imagine there's much he was not exposed to growing up.

EDIT: I also susspect that your more recent debates with people get a little on the, if you'll excuse me for saying, 'heated' or if you prefer 'too spicey for some' side of things because you miss your debates with him.

Reply to edit: Interesting. I think I am the same loveable curmudgeon I always was. I don't think I get heated either. I do think that JYAMG was easier to disagree with than most because he didn't take much of it personally. If everyone had that going for them, the "spicey" comment wouldn't have been made. IMO.

Okay fair enough, though I'm not sure what I did with Hannibal that earned me a "star." I invented the Night Life Photo Albums when we were still doing those. Does that warrant a mention? Really, the more I think, the less I feel I've played any significant role here. laugh.gif

[Sam Elliott]With his six shooter at his side and his trusty chestnut gelding "Beulabelle", legendary law dog Heccubus rode into the lawless early 04s nightlife and corraled all the rampagin' photographs into one thread. Ever humble, he reckons he didnt have much of a role in things. At his funeral were early Western movie stars Jack Pallance and Tom Mix. Tom Mix wept.[/Sam Elliott]

I'm just speculating about that last part, but it adds authenticity.

Ok, I went through some painstaking research to put hard dates on some of these events. I even researched the post war between Jane and Chyld. So, now we have dates that can kind of help us navigate. These dates are flexible though, but I based them on..... stuff. god its five thirty and I can barely remember, but the dawning days ended with hannibals arrival, the starwards ended with episode three, hannibal ended with him getting banned, the jane chyld war ended with the closing of puffins lemurs thread, and the screening room golden age ended with LOTR, though I need to check dates to see where it began cuz I might be leaving things out. pirates of the debate club was the easiest to check since it was one thread. I'll do dates for more later. Research and thread linkages are welcome.

The First Age

The Dawning Days: October 30 2003 - 29 October 2004
The Starwars Ascendancy and The Great Debates January 31 2004 - June 6 2005
Golden Age of the News Desk Jan 29 2004 - Aug 29 2005
Attack of the Hannibal 29 October 2004 - 6 June 2005
The Jane Chyld War of june 10 2004 30th OCtober 05 and post war feb 7 2005 to march 7 2005
The Golden Age Of The Screening Room August 13 2004 - August 22 2005
Pirates! of the debate club - april 3 2005 - december 22 2007

The Second Age

The fall of the Old Republic 2006-2007
The Demi-trolls - 2007? (with point counterpoint)
The not so great debates 2006 or 2007-2008
Rise of the Ramblomites late 2007 - 2008
The Great Homicest of Snake Logan 2008
Time of the Troutkrieg 2008

The Third Age

2009.

Special Features:

Where are they now?
Point/Counterpoints
Defense Against The Dark Trolls
Great threads of Antiquity
Important and/or irritating milestones

found a helpful post from Floppydisk summarizing the early days of piracy on page 5 or 6 of the thread:

Order of events:

1) Declaring of stances:
Pirates - barend, Kirby (MIA), floppydisk, Jane, Laughlyn
Ninjas - JM (All alone...)
Pirate-Ninjas - Slade
Elves - Madam Corvax
Robot Monkeys - Chyld

2)Fight Begins:
- rum is broken out
- barend drills a hole in his own boat, apparently...
- Slade threatens the pirate crew
- JM poisons the pirate's rum and offs himself
- Slade's main mast is destroyed
- JM surpasses Jane in post count
- Slade demands the Pirate crew's washing machines
- floppydisk bravely boards Slade's boat
- Hannibal tries to ruin everyone's fun....again
- Madam Corvax briefly shows up
- first Generic Pirate-Ninja is killed, and first loot is plundered, in the same post, by floppydisk
- Slade tells the story of his parents, and blows up his own boat
- Jane sticks Slade with a knife in the kidney
- floppydisk kills some other ninja that he thought was JM. floppydisk's pecker was fatally wounded in the battle.
- floppydisk hallucinates and thinks he sees aliens
- Jane gets stuck with her own knife
- JMs ninja suicide bomb is disarmed by Laughlyn
- Slade attempts suicede by hotdog
- floppydisk seggusts a peace treaty
- JM comes back as a vampire ninja
- We all suddenly have D&D stats
- Peace Treaty is accepted by all sides

Where does the emergence of the Dr. Lecter Land faction, their retreat into Less is More county, and destruction fit in here?

I'm sure I did more than that...

Lecter - Ah yes, the third party candidacy. To figure out where you fit in, check the history books for Ralph Nader or Ross Perot.

Barend - That's just the first six pages. If you want to research what else happened and do the thing on that, go for it. I could use the help. It seems like everyone wants to be included, but no one wants to write anything.

Although that may be for the better, since too many people might just be all "I did some cool stuff at this time, and then I did more cool stuff later, Kthxbye"

I am working on an essay documenting the key moments (and key players) in the STAR WARS forum, at least as I saw them. I have no idea whether it's the sort of thing you're looking for, but I can say it will be something.

I guess I should start doing the atack of the Hannibal era since that's kinda my specialty. Should have that up in a day or two.

Everytime you mention his name, he masturbates.

I'm guilty of this too.

I was taken aback at how much of a lurker I've been. I didn't realize how much of that stuff I lurked through till it was listed out. *rubs eyes with palm*

It's nice to be a part of the somewhat accepted community here and to see some of the names that have graced the board once again.
