This game is only a couple of months old so I'm lucky enough to have stumbled upon it today. Iji is story the world after an alien invasion, and a woman augmented with the invader's technology so she's the only one who can fight back.

The game gives you goals, but there's a lot of freedom in how you accomplish them. Do you go for the harder and better weapons, or would you rather be faster and stronger with the weapons you have? Would you prefer to crack the security on your enemy's doors and life support systems, or just kick it until it breaks? Must you go out of your way to kill everything, or can you let an alien live once and a while? (Apparently this last one, how likely you are to pick a fight, has an effect on the game but I haven't found what yet since I've only played the first two levels).

Even though I haven't gotten too far into this, I can already tell that it has some amazing scope for an independent game. Give it the attention it deserves and download it at http://www.remar.se/daniel/iji.php.

Or, watch the trailer at http://www.youtube.c...h?v=33mxD4FjD3w.

Aye, this one's a real gem. You can also play the pacifist, though it's not immediately obvious. As in, avoid confrontations, not kill anyone except for the bosses, etc. That way, a few things will be different later on. But it's much more fun to blow everything up, of course.

Also, in sector... 8 or 9, don't recall. The place where you get a trapmine: don't use it where you're told to use it, but near the exit. You'll get a different ending.

Damn it! Now I really want to beat the game on Hard, going the pacifist route. Jerk.

I had a lot of fun with this one. Metroidvanias just seem to have a hold on me, I guess.

Plus, System Shock 2 was brilliant, so anything that was inspired by it must be equally as good... right? Wrong, I hated the forced drama bullshit in this game, with the lesbian Tasen chick with her diary, the humanitarian aspect of the aliens and whatnot. Other than that, it's helluva fun really.
