I am also biased against movie-to-game conversions like The Thing and Super Mario Bros not to mention movie-to-game-to-movie conversions like Pokemon. I do enjoy comic-to-game conversion though.

Nnnno....it was only a movie made from a game. They never made any games based on the movie because the movie had almost nothing to do with the games, aside from the character names.

Anyway, Postal. Maybe not good per se, but totally in line with the game itself.
I found Silent Hill to be highly enjoyable, except for the climax at the church. It was well produced, and decently handled. Only Sean Bean had any real chops and he was superfluous to the story.
Dead or Alive was a fucking blast, as a dumb action comedy. I'd rather watch that again than Charlie's Angels.

The problem with video game adaptations isn't that they are adapted from video games, it's that they are adapted as easy cash ins. You could have said the exact same thing about comic book movies right up until Spider-Man came out. Now John Moore doesn't promise good as his last two movies have been adaptations as well. Shot by shot recreation of the Omen and the meh, it's kind of OK Flight of the Phoenix. He is a man that could do shit with a real script. It looks like they are playing into the Norse Mythology part of it, (with luck they'll leave out the more post-modern parts. That was covered by Sin City) If we are lucky, we'll get a hard boiled Noir action movie with shitload of pretty visuals and symbolism. Kind of like a Noir Matrix with less Gnostic propaganda, and matrixes.

I really like the first Resident Evil film. The other two I'm happy to pretend don't exist.

There's more than one? Gee, good thing I didn't keep up with the news there. The first one had a memorable slicing and dicing scene, but was otherwise more than dull.

There was a second one with Nemesis and lots of continuity issues, and then a thrid one which I haven't seen because the second was so bad.
I think it's set in the desert, and has super zombies or some rubbish.

I think you guys are forgetting the best part of these movies: Soundtracks.

If you get a chance, check out the soundtracks for Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat. Who DOESNT know the Mortal Kombat theme song. There are still people who think it was part of the game.

Maybe that's where all of the creative talent went.

It's actually very funny you should mention that because this review of Mortal Kombat: Annhilation has always stuck in my head:

"Compared to what lies ahead, you've been through nothing," says Rayden (James Remar) to his band of martial-arts warriors about halfway through the story, possibly cuing the audience to anticipate even more intense effects-ridden battling between good and evil. In this movie--the second based on the video game--there are no rules, as Kitana (Talisa Soto) discovers in her struggle to reunite with her mother and suppress the evil that thrives on their estrangement. But the most stimulating, satisfying aspect of this action fantasy is the theme music. A revelation about the relationship of the main good guy to the main bad guy will be predictable even if you haven't played the game or seen the prequel.
