I met Wankzee at egames as well, needless to say it must take a certain persona to do the work that he does, its funny but can only be pulled off by a wanka.

I tried to give him some compliments, but they were just thrown back in my face and walked off. I happen to mention that his reviews are 'pretty good' hence why his latest review of fallout 3 has that odd start.

I guess he was expecting 'OMG I love your reviews and want your babies' but unfortunately Ben you are not the best and the sooner your bloated head can realize that, the more you may appreciate what 'small' amount of fans you actually have.

He usually just hates all his fans. Which is probably why he had the reaction.

Uh-huh.

Edit: Whilst Yahtzee might not have the fanbase of people who have been around for much longer, it can in no way be called "small". In terms of what he does, he has a pretty sizeable collection.

Also, you don't need to mis-spell "wanker", no-ones going to moderate you for it.

Did you register simply to make that post?

In a way it’s nice to know that I was able to bug him enough that he went to the effort to dish out on me in his review. The least I could do is throw a comment back his way.

Not critiquing his work (yet), it's done quite well and has a few under his belt, which is why I tried to compliment him. Never the less he is still only a fresh face that has done his reviews for little over a year, when put in comparison with his ego you might find that there is a toppling balance if you ever meet him.

News flash: He hasn't been to this forum in at least a year. If you want to throw a comment back his way, send him an email. Or go talk to him again. This forum isn't going to do it.

However, if you want to join like 50 troll wars and/or constantly insult people and get insulted back, this forum is the perfect place for you! Oh, and sometimes we talk about ZP. Except I don't.

lol didn't know that, and seeing the amount of people trying emailing him looks like that might be fruitless too.

Curious why anyone else is even hanging around then?

Oh well happy trolling

The whole bit with him hating his fans has got to be some kind of an act... I mean he can't have been doing all this writing and ranting and yelling for nearly eight years just for his own health. And saying he does it for the money is bullshit because he didn't get paid for any of his endeavours, really, until Zero Punctuation picked up in popularity. His quickness to abandon projects in most cases also shows that he wasn't necessarily trying to develop any particular ability (see: his various unfinished short stories and novels).
I think he secretly loves every one of you and just has trouble coming to terms with his emotions. Hell I thought he hated me for years, and then found out he was linking to my website from FullyRamblomatic.

Of course, I could be totally wrong and he really does loathe every single person who calls themselves fans of his. It just seems unlikely to me when you sit and think about it. He has an image as a curmudgeonly cynic to maintain, after all.

Whatever, who cares.

Mr. Yahtzee may have his difficulties when it comes to dealing with people, or his personal reasons for not giving a shit or whatever, there's nothing really worth judging there.

All I know is that he accepts and values critique, though I could wholeheartedly understand that he's more likely to lash out a bit now, what with that whole crowd of mostly teenage gamers hammering away on his nerves.

His ego is pretty much in check, he parodies himself while being aware of his capabilities and maintaining a down-to-earth attitude. Also, there was that incident about him acting like the big shot back when his games got famous, something he's repeatedly realized and apologized for.

why do we keep coming here? we enjoy each others company. and mocking the blatant trolls.

speaking of... it occurs to me that you criticise yahtzee for being egotistical, yet here you are assuming credit for part of his work... pot calling the kettle black?

Wait, you mean we're not all blatant? Also, in all honesty, I haven't got a clue why I come here. I think it's probably because I haven't closed the tab and keep refreshing. Hmm. If I close this tab again, I may never return... Well, it failed last time, so fruck that then. I'mma go play with a sammich whilst you all bully each other/possibly me.

I love all of you.

And why do we come here? Well, for one, Although Yahtzee is quite well known now, he's still hardly a household name. Therefore, should we wish to discuss his work, here's probably the best place (Believe me, I know. I ran an AoT forum that sank).

In fact, thinking about it, are you suggesting that the only reason to hang round a forum is to hope that the main discussion point will occasionally rain acceptance, secrets and boobies down upon you? Please.

Regarding Hecc's point; I get the impression that YZ probably does enjoy having fans, just not fans of the caliber that will get images of his cartoons branded upon their stupid hides. I mean, he appealed for testers for AoT here, and took our comments and critiques with very good grace. However, had one of us just used the opportunity to wank all over his face, things would have been different.

Especially seeing as we're not Valve employees or very close friends.

Yahtzee's fanbase was miniscule pre-Zero Punctuation, but now practically everyone who keeps up with Internet gaming news is aware of him, and that's a lot of people. (Please note that knowing Yahtzee and openly being a fan of him are two different things here.) What I find so incredible was that this fame was literally instant. It only took about a month or so for ZP to be featured in every nook and cranny of your great aunt's website. (I am of course assuming that it is ZP that has caused this; it might have been something else that I couldn't possibly gauge (back page of PC Gamer US)?) So yes, Kyp, he may be a "fresh face", but I continue to be amazed at how well he is known. Remember back in May he was on the front page of Steam advertising Painkiller? And this in 'little under a year'?

Anyway, it is blatantly obvious from the tone of your post that you are bitter over how Yahtzee reacted to you and you are trying to undermine him as a result. Whether Yahtzee has lots of 'fans' or not, he's clearly still not accustomed to the idea, as I'm sure many of us wouldn't be either. He's talked before about the uncomfortable state it leaves you in:

QUOTE
You know, being new to this whole 'fame' business I'm surprised by how many things I can't do anymore. For example, if I'm browsing forums and I read an interesting thread that isn't something to do with me, if I post an incidental comment about whatever the subject is then the thread immediately derails into people going 'make a video about it' or other examples of priceless wit. I used to be one of the guys, you know. I used to be another faceless contributor in a wall of opinion. I miss those days.

Your experience is a prime example. I am reminded of a passage I read in Derren Brown's Trick of the Mind where he talks about being famous, and that you are expected to perpetually be in a cheerful mood: You might never meet the same person twice, and whatever mood you're in at the time that will be that person's eternal opinion of you. "I met that Derren Brown once and he's a cock." So give Yahtzee a break. I mean how exactly did Yahtzee 'throw your compliments back at you'? Did he just ignore you/dismiss you, or did he actually go out of his way to pour vitriol on you as though he genuinely hated your guts for even daring to approach him? That's the difference between having a bad day, and being an arsehole.

"Waaah! Waaaah! I met somebody and he didn't like me!"

Fucking deal with it.

Also, 'small' number of fans? The Fable review on youtube has had nearly a million hits.

TL;DR: Shut up.

EDIT: I realise this post is quite childish, however it's Friday morning, and I hate the entire world on Friday mornings.
