In all the years of publicity and merchandise for the Lord of the Rings films, I've noticed that there seems to be a considerable amount of interesting footage that we saw snippets of, that never appeared in the theatrical editions and never appeared in the extended editions either.

One that I am particularly perplexed by is that in the preview for The Fellowship of the Ring, there was a scene that showed the orcs of Moria running across a plain. It looked very cool and I couldn't wait to see it. I also saw still pictures of that scene blown up to huge proportions in the entertainment section of the newspaper - and later, I saw still photographs of that scene in the CD sleeve of the soundtrack.

But it didn't appear in the theatrical edition or the extended edition. After that, I thought that maybe it was connected to The Two Towers but it didn't appear in either edition of that either.

There are other scenes I've seen as well that never appeared in any edition of the films - one showing elvern girls running through the woods, for example.

Peter Jackson's obviously got a huge archive of footage that was never used in the movies. And I guess what I'm wondering is, are we ever going to see it?

Does anybody have any inside secrets or hints of rumours that there might one day be a DVD of that archived footage we never saw?

I for one would really love to see some of that stuff and would be quite happy to pay the money for a good DVD that gave it to us.

I'm not sure on that but let me pose a question to a fellow lotr officianado. Why is it htat in the ROTK trailer Theoden gave the "There may come a day when the courage of men fails when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship. But it is not this day. This day, we fight!" speech and sounded bad-ass. and yet in the movie Aragorn gives it and sounds horrible? I want Theoden to get that speech.

I never saw any trailers in which Theoden gave the speech - but I sure thought he was a much better leader than Aragorn was in the movie. Aragorn's speech was too long for a bunch of guys just about to fight - and Viggo's delivery was lame.

Actually, I thought a lot of the actors' performances were nowhere near as good as they had been in the previous films - especially with Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellen.
