*Keep in mind that these are merely rumored changes. They have been taken from theforce.net.

Episode IV: A New Hope

 1. The Imperial March has been added to Darth Vader's first appearance on Princess Leia's ship.

 2. When Obi-Wan is talking to Luke about his father Anakin's Theme plays in the background and then it turns into the Imperial March as he talks about Vader.

 3. The lightsaber effects have been redone and the frame jumps of lightsabers being turned on has been removed.

 4. There's a new scene which has been shot during the filming of Episode III in which the Emperor dissolves the Senate.

 5. In the Cantina, the Duros (green aliens guys) have been replaced with Neimoidians and some aliens from the prequels have been added.

 6. The bleeding arm on the floor in the Cantina has been replaced with a non-bleeding arm because it's now canon that lightsabers cauterize wounds.

 7. The original shooting scene between Han and Greedo has been restored.

 8. Jabba the Hutt has been given a makeover and Han no longer steps on his tale.

 9. In place of R2 wobbling down the stairs to the Falcon's hangar, a CG R2 navigating the stairs like he does in Attack of the Clones was added.

 10. The white boxes around space ships have been removed and new CG shots have been added.

 11. The scene of the Falcon being chased by the two Star Destroyers was modified. The Falcon now does spinning moves, avoiding the Star Destroyers' fire.

 12. When the Death Star destroys Alderaan there's a new scene of Yoda's reaction to the disturbance in the Force that is created by all those deaths and then it cuts to Obi-Wan reacting to it as well.

 13. The Dianoga has gotten a CG makeover and were are now able to see more of the creature.

 14. The Death Star's paneling and computers have been slightly altered to show similar displays to those in the prequels.

 15. The words "Tractor Beam" with Aurebesh lettering.

 16. More stormtroopers have been added to the Death Star.

 17. Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for use with all the stormtroopers.

 18. The Obi-Wan/Vader duel has been spruced up. It is much more epic and there is much more movement. A modified version of Duel of the Fates is being considered for the scene.

 19. The Death Star plans that are taken from R2 have been updated. When the Rebels are reviewing the Death Star plans they look similar to the plans we see in Attack of the Clones.

 20. The Death Star battle is much more epic with more Tie Fighters and more Rebels being blown to bits. We get to see old Naboo starfighters being used by the Rebels.

 21. There's a new scene (shot during Episode III) where Darth Vader goes to Coruscant and lands his ship in the same building Count Dooku does at the end of Attack of the Clones. Except now the building is all fixed up and it is now Palpatine's palace. He meets with Palpatine to ask for forgiveness for his failure and inform him of a new potential who is strong in the Force.

 22. Chewbacca now gets a medal.

Lucas has denied that these rumors are true and in reading them you can pretty much see why. Most of them are dreadful beyond imagination but after seeing Special Edition, The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones anything is possible.

Yeah,

I was going to do a point-by point reply to this one, but I just ran out of steam.

Summary: any change to music is insulting and stupid. All additions requiring CGI wil make the models look different in context, and so should not be made. Idea number 7 has to be false. All efforts to justify the PT with unneeded back-story would just make this film seem longer and suddenly dumb. Simple work of cleaning up effects, like removing matte lines and the lightsaber jump cut, rankle but are acceptable in the context of actually adding a CG swordfight for a dead actor.

What I would add: I'd have Jabba's skiff attending an execution at the sarrlacc (sp?) pit. Boba Fett would be there, hovering in Slave 13, which would be way cooler looking than Slave One. They'd dump their victims into the pit, and after a high five, Boba would offer to go get Han Solo. Jabba would say "No, I've sent my best man, Greedo." Boba would look menacing and announce that one day he and Solo would settle the score between them. Then I'd pull back to reveal that Luke (that is, a CG recreation of Mark Hammill) was watching with his binoculars. Then I'd pull back to show some Sand People watching HIM. Probably then I'd cut to R2 and 3P0, and 3P0 would be complaining about how R2 always forgets to put fuel in his rocket boots whenever they get stranded on Tatooine.

Mike.

PS: I like Chewbacca now getting a medal. He culd show it off proudly on Life Day. However, I really liked the comment in the old comic adaptation (or was it the novel?) that if Chewbacca earned a medal, he'd have to put it around his own neck. "Few space princesses are that tall." that's intriguing to me, since it didn't say "*No* space princesses..." I say we got some ground to cover for episodes 7-9.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

That just made my morning. laugh.gif

If these changes are true then it's great for me because TFN has taken the time to write out my "22 Reasons to Hate the Star Wars: Episode IV DVD Remake".

I agree with basically anything civilian said, changes to music are insulting. Making the Obi-Wan-Vader duel "epic" is ridiculous, one is an old man, one is bionic and fairly old with asthma, I mean there is no need to make it epic, and playing duel of the fates makes it that much worse. It's fine how it is. I agree that if he wants to make technical changes making the lightsabers more defined, ok, but most of this stuff is ridiculous. I can live with a CG dianoga, the Emperor dissolving the Senate scene should be an extra not in the movie, as should any scene with the emperor, who should NOT be in Episode IV, he's unnecessary and has a good introduction in V. Same with Yoda actually, shouldn't show him either. I can live with more aliens in the cantina, I really don't care about the blood from the arm, but changing the space battle (which is long enough as it is) is ridiculous, and adding more fighters is horrible. Basically the only good news in this is that the Greedo-Han scene is being restored, but it doesn't make up for everything else. I mean I have not been an avid Lucas-basher and I actually enjoyed epiosde II and defend him, but this is horrible. I say we assassinate him. Who's with me!

some lines will need to go. they just don't work anymore.

3po, on tatooine: "i'm not even sure which planet I'm on."

aunt beru (?): (paraphrased) "Luke, we're shutting the power down for the night" what, so your arch enemy fuedin' sandpeople can come and kill you all (in return,) defenseless?

3po: "my first job was with primary load lifters"

on the plus side in episode 3

we'll meet captain antilles

we'll see the great rebel battle where they get the ds plans

premature post. Maybe anikan did teach 3po about load lifters. we haven't seen anikan much as a star pilot but obi-wan claims he was the best star-fighter in the galaxy. Oh yeah. that's what that endless pod race must have been setting up. yippee!

Luke is going to stay another season, but not another year. causes me to wonder, how many growing seasons are there on a planet with two suns? how long is a year? I'd like Sam Kinisson to have blasted Lucas instead of the africans with his classic bit- what do you think you're going to be growing people?- IT'S SAND!!!!!

I'm sure in Ep 3 we'll also meet r5d4, that red droid that almost usurps r2's role from the OT. I've always thought the force had something to do with that? (maybe when droids are wounded they recieve human parts so midichlorians could have done their thing?)

Nate, my hat's off to you. I shouldn't try this at home. (but grateful for the opportunity)

Oh my God, seriously? Is it building up to that?

So, they steal the plans, and they never make a single copy of them, so they have to be smuggled around in a droid twenty years later?

Jeez, you'd think after twenty years every office of Rebel Terrorists (Freedom Fighters) would have the Death Star plans in its main databanks.

Maybe the secret of the STAR WARS series is that Princess Leia was really stupid. Maybe the plans she worked so hard to smuggle were useless. Maybe at the end, when they tell her "we really quickly went over those plans you sent us -good work by the way- and we found a weakness," really they'd known about that weakness for a long time and just didn't want to hurt her feelings.

AND: Maybe the rebels could have destroyed the Death Star earlier, with a pre-emptive strike, but they were waiting for the Empire to use it somewhere o they could get more planets sympathetic to their cause. Maybe allowing Alderaan to be destroyed was a fundraiser for the Rebels, and the Empire's big mistake.

Well I Don't know... I was just trying to mine the expositional paragraphs for something to spice things up. If this six movie box set is as lucas wants it, it ought to be seamless I'd suppose. don't they (words scrolling through space) traditionally include a little "last week in the star wars galaxy...we saw how blah blah trade federation..." they've been pretty boring intros lately.

so I guess the real point is that the star wars prologues are subject to change like everything else.

another thing: do they ever get out of that galaxy they keep mentioning or is that about it?

I wonder if they are going to use Gungans instead of Ewoks in RTOJ?

I will now rate these proposed changes.

1.
The Imperial March has been added to Darth Vader's first appearance on Princess Leia's ship.

What? I suppose the Tantive IV is now going to be captured by the Executor?
3 CGI Jabbas and couple of Wampas

2.
When Obi-Wan is talking to Luke about his father Anakin's Theme plays in the background and then it turns into the Imperial March as he talks about Vader.

Piff, whatever.
A CGI Jabba and a Wampa

3.
The lightsaber effects have been redone and the frame jumps of lightsabers being turned on has been removed.

Yes! Yes! Yes! The one thing that really took me out of ANH.
4 Landos

4.
There's a new scene which has been shot during the filming of Episode III in which the Emperor dissolves the Senate.

Dose he get thunderous applause this time?
Three Wampas and a CGI Jabba

5.
In the Cantina, the Duros (green aliens guys) have been replaced with Neimoidians and some aliens from the prequels have been added.

I’ll get exited about this scene when they add some Twi'lek dancing girls.
Two Wampas.

6.
The bleeding arm on the floor in the Cantina has been replaced with a non-bleeding arm because it's now canon that lightsabers cauterize wounds.

It’s about bloody time. You have a weapon that’s blade is roughly the shape of a dowel, its only cutting mechanism would seem to be heat, and does not cauterize? This was a problem before Luke’s conspicuously non-spurting stump in ESB.
Tree Landos

7.
The original shooting scene between Han and Greedo has been restored.

I am going to try to ignore the fact that this “change” should not have been necessary.
Google Landos

8.
Jabba the Hutt has been given a makeover and Han no longer steps on his tale.

I am going to overlook the fact that scene is stupid and unnecessary, and only rate the “change”.
Half a Lando

9.
In place of R2 wobbling down the stairs to the Falcon's hangar, a CG R2 navigating the stairs like he does in Attack of the Clones was added.

Why does he not just use his jet boots to fly down?
Three Wampas a CGI Jabba and three Yaddles

10.
The white boxes around space ships have been removed and new CG shots have been added.

Yah, ok that is a little annoying.
One and a half Landos

11.
The scene of the Falcon being chased by the two Star Destroyers was modified. The Falcon now does spinning moves, avoiding the Star Destroyers' fire.

And I suppose a CGI Luke now has to use a barf bag?
Two Wampas

12.
When the Death Star destroys Alderaan there's a new scene of Yoda's reaction to the disturbance in the Force that is created by all those deaths and then it cuts to Obi-Wan reacting to it as well.

This is just a pathetic way to get Yoda in all six movies.
Two and a half Jabbas*

13
The Dianoga has gotten a CG makeover and were are now able to see more of the creature.

Just before it is eaten by a ferocious pack of at least…
A dozen Wampas

14.
The Death Star's paneling and computers have been slightly altered to show similar displays to those in the prequels.

And a CGI R2 grabs the comlink and beeps in to it, to worn of several creatures approaching from the south east….
Tow Wampas

15.
More stormtroopers have been added to the Death Star.

Humm, More stormtroopers who could not hit a bantha if it bit off their penis, how exciting.
Tree Wampas

16
Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for use with all the stormtroopers.

So the Empire is still using clones for troopers eh? Tell me what exactly about the clone war distinguished it as the clone war?
Tree CGI Jabbas two Yaddles

17
The Obi-Wan/Vader duel has been spruced up. It is much more epic and there is much more movement. A modified version of Duel of the Fates is being considered for the scene.

I wonder if they are going to change Vader’s dialog to say “when you left me to slowly fry to death on that worthless piece of rock I was but the learner..”?
Three CGI Jabbas

18.
The Death Star plans that are taken from R2 have been updated. When the Rebels are reviewing the Death Star plans they look similar to the plans we see in Attack of the Clones.

I have to say good. I mean I realize this is a secret base, thrown together with whatever they could get, but if that is the best monitor they have, just use R2's holograph projector.
One Lando

19
The Death Star battle is much more epic with more Tie Fighters and more Rebels being blown to bits. We get to see old Naboo starfighters being used by the Rebels.

what? It was fine the way it was, I do not need to see every engagement to know what’s going on.
Three CGI Jabbas

20
There's a new scene (shot during Episode III) where Darth Vader goes to Coruscant and lands his ship in the same building Count Dooku does at the end of Attack of the Clones. Except now the building is all fixed up and it is now Palpatine's palace. He meets with Palpatine to ask for forgiveness for his failure and inform him of a new potential who is strong in the Force.

Nothing like Lucas beating you over the head with “subtle” plot points is there? There must be cave somewhere on Skywalker ranch where lackey sites both night and day thinking up scenes that only have Darth Vader,
Emperor Palpatine, R2D2, C3PO, Chewbacca and Yoda..…oh and how could I forget Boba Fett in them.
Next order of business? Figureout how to get Coruscant and Tatooine in to ESB.
Two Wampas

21
Chewbacca now gets a medal.

I wonder if Malla is going to be there to present it to him? Hum.
Two Landos

Well thats it folks.

*The relatively low Jabba count is do to my taking into consideration the possibility of a previous added scene where Organa chairs a meeting of Alliance leaders, including a holograph Yoda. Thus establishing the character in the movie in a semi relevant way.

Why can't Lucas make the prequels to fit the OT instead of changing the OT so it fits the prequels?
