So, I'm curious for thoughts on the Republican National Convention. One of our forum-mates was planning to go make fun of the protesters, and hopefully wasn't drawn and quartered by my brothers in the Welcoming Comittee, who did a quite good job of fucking shit up despite the pre-emptive strikes by the pigs. I understand that they actually managed to hit a bus full of Republicans with a brick. And Code Pink once again infiltrated and disrupted a GOP function. I love those ladies!

Also, I'm really enjoying the tone of the event. They were all about putting aside partisian politics and staring at the weather reports to show how much they cared about poor folks in New Orleans (this time, anyway) but once it turned out that there wasnt too much flooding, they went first to Palin's emo "The media doesn't understand me and my complicated feelings and my teen pregnant daughter and my ethics investigations" speech, and from there to "fuck Obama! wooooooooo!".

Props for getting that turncoat Lieberman to appear and, well, be a turncoat, are in order. It'd be a real coup if there was a man woman or child who didnt already know that Lieberman was a closet republican in the first place.

Hey, where can I get more info on the protests and that stuff? So far I've checked out Youtube, but there's not much on there.

www.infoshop.org/news/ is a good spot. One of the problems with events like these is that the anarchists, syndicalists and communists that make up the main groups organizing the stuff are bound to be hated by the mainstream media, and either not covered well or merely portrayed as thugs.

The anarchist coverage is of course going to be biased in their favor as well, but I trust the people on the ground more than the folks at the top of some media tower for first hand accounts of what happened. Also, Rage Against The Machine played for the marchers. I'm amazed they reunited, that's pretty nifty.

Are there any more sources about this? I'll need them to make a better opinion on the matter - it's hard to trust the webage of the accused when it's the only source around. Not that I automatically distrust it, but... Well it's kinda like asking the kid that stole the cookies if he should have been punished... I just need more sources, that's all.

If what's on that webpage is true, it's ridiculous.

There were a good many stories in the news about it, and on their RNC page wikipedia mentions the matter. The cops claim that anarchists were planning some really hard core disruptions. And they actually did do a good bit, including messing up a bus of RNC delegates, throwing bricks, and setting at least one fire.

Of course, one could argue that these were spontaneous and justified acts of retribution since the cops made every effort to stop the marchers from getting permits, etc.
