Eve Review

Looks like Yahtzee saw the Thinderella porn after all...

Whilst I enjoyed WoW for a while it began to bore me horribly, and the expansion kept me interested until level 63. Then I quit for 5 months, came back, got to 70, and pretty much quit again.

From the looks of this review, Eve is not the one to tempt me back into MMO territory...

Meh.

Eve is a Sandbox Massively Multiplayer Space Game. Yahtzee voluntarily didn't get involved with player run corporations which removes the sandbox and multiplayer elements and just leaves you with a very hollow Massive Space Game.

From the review it sounds like he just sat in hi-sec grinding away at missions. Eve missions are quite frankly shit because they are not the focus of the game, they are just something to do when your corpmates are not online.

This review is akin to going to a theme park, refusing to ride its roller coasters and then complaining the park is boring because the kiddies tee-cup ride didn't excite you.

Yahtzees normally informative and amusing rambling is this week unfortunately just rambling.

Spot the EVE fanboy.

In all honesty, I didn't find this review as good as the others. Still funny, but at no point was I piloting the ROFLcopter.

Not everyone is going to have the time to join these player made corps. To be honest, this is just a valid a review as his reviews of games that attempt to make up for lacklustre single player with a multiplayer that he doesn't bother with.

Missions = story = drive things forward. If they are shit, it kinda shows the developer didn't care about it. And if they didn't care about THAT, what else did they not care about?

I totally agree with Nicholai. Missions and killing npcs in general is boring just as it is in any other mmo. To see how different EVE is you have to join a player run corporation and get involved in whaterver they are up to.

What I like most about EVE is that you can be whoever you want. I, for example, consider myslef an architect. Alliances hire me when they want to build a station. Which by the way, is like many things in EVE, a long and complicated process involving a lot of prepations and commitment from many players.

Or how about becoming a diplomat for an alliance of 1000+ players. Surely a very demanding task but can be very rewarding as well.

Theese are just two examples of interesting things you can do out there. And there's so much more...

Did anybody else notice the similarity between both of the "EVE Online brought joy into my life" posters?

I'll give you a hint: look at the post count.

EDIT: Whoops, looks like I simulposted with another one! What, is there a brigade of EVE defenders, ready to leap to the rescue of their favorite MMORPG anytime its sanctity is brought into question?

With the space theme in some of the fiction he writes, its somewhat surprising that he didnt like EvE, or at least give it some more time in a player corp or alliance.

I think alot of eve players feel he didnt give it a fair shot...but then again, I suppose if CCP gives a 14 day trial they must figure thats fair enough. I was hooked my first day, it all just made sense to me. I also like it because I can jump on, go on a pvp op for an hour, then log off and my character keeps progressing. I dont have to grind on mobs for hours to get a level, after playing EQ for 2.5 years, Iv had enough of that.

WOW, three EVE lovers here with small amounts of posts. That there has to be a new record or something.
anyways, I think the funniest part of the review was the part about the toothpaste.

But not things you can do in the space of 14 days.

And the point of a free trial is to tempt you in. If the only good bits of the game require a massive commitment, and the casual stuff is left to fester well...ah fuck it, just read my 2nd post in this thread.

Also: If you EVE fans are hoping to get through to Yahtzee via these forums, bad luck. Haven't seen him here in...well in fact I haven't seen him here since I joined, and reports of his absence go a long way back.

I dunno. Yahtzee knew he was getting into an MMORPG, he made that pretty clear and he's made his opinions of them pretty clear. He didn't sound like he was going to enjoy it if he wanted to.

I still enjoyed it, it just seemed bitter like when he's forced to review something due to popular demand. I saw a friend 'play' EVE. It breaks realities physics by going faster then the speed of light, I think.

Ah, MMORPGs...I have played all of 3, and only because they were free. My favourite was TDZK...it had more or less no graphics whatsoever, movement consisted of travelling from one grid reference to another...still, lots of fun.

I spent an afternoon being introduced to Star Wars: Galaxies once.

I remember hoping the guy's house would burn down, just so we'd have something interesting to do.

Maybe I'm dense. Are you making that face without clarification because it's somehow annoying to you that I pointed out a bunch of people are joining the FR forums for the sole purpose of defending their favorite game from the big bad Yahtzee, who doesn't frequent this message board anymore?
