So I got an automated call from Gamestop stating that the Ghostbusters game was cancelled and I would be getting my preorder money back. I had kept hearing it was delayed but not cancelled by Activision when they merged Sierra into themself.

So is this the final nail in the coffin?

Will another publisher be able to pick this up?

It seemed the game was so close to completion.

I seem to remember seeing a gameplay demo of that like a year and a half ago. It looked pretty close. What gives?

Maybe not enough people were interested in it. I do remember thinking when I first heard of it, are today's gamers even familiar enough with the Ghostbuster's franchise to care about this game? I don't think very many are.

Disappointing for sure. sad.gif
I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

That sucks, I was kind of looking forward to it...

I haven't found any confirmation on a complete cancellation (minus the Gamestop call). Sources still cite a 2009 release as a 25 year anniversary thing, although the game development is finished. Very strange indeed.

But wasn't it also supposed to be a more "mature" title? I think it was geared more towards the movies' fans, which let's face it, make up a huge bulk of today's gamers.
That said, however, I really didn't have particularly high hopes for it to begin with. It seems like there was just too much potential for it to be ground-breakingly awful. Maybe it's best to just put it to rest and think of what could have been, rather than bemoan the release of sub-par product?

The Ghostbusters game was actually supposed to be a promotional tie-in for, *gasp*, a new Ghostbusters film, a brainchild of Dan Akroyd.

The film never blossomed to fruition, and subsequently went the direction of the game: developmental hell.

Im guessing Akroyd noticed the recent string of 80's franchises that have been resurrected to lukewarm appeal (Indiana Jones, Rocky, Rambo,Terminator), and thought GB was due for its time again.

What I saw of the game was just a scene of trying to trap Slimer at the hotel. It seemed just okay. If you take all the amazing humor out of Ghostbusters and just focus on the ghostbusting aspect and try to make it a badass FPS or even third person shooter I don't know if that's quite enough to capture Ghostbusters fans.

Of course, as with a lot of licensed games you'll probably sell a lot of copies.

Well, the movie's an on-again/off-again thing too. Currently, it is on-again:
