Well, there's this new shop opening at my local shopping centre called Gametraders, they basically sell all the games on those old ass consoles Sega Rustbucket 900 and stuff. I'm kinda hoping that they'll sell PS1 games since playstation 1 shits on all. The first console i got was a fucking ps1. (thats right im not a veteran) But i loved it. The best games were on ps1, like Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, Final Fantasy 9 & 7, Parasite Eve 2, Resident Evil: Nemesis. Classics they were.

BUT! There are two games that I'm hunting down, Fallout and Fallout 2. No doubt awesome games. Now do any Aussies here have a Gametraders near them and if so, do you know if they sell PC games? or even Fallout 1 & 2?

I started out with a sega master system when I was knee high to an adult. Moved up to nintendo 64, follows by an X-Box and finally I settled content with PS2 with a couple of decent games.

But in that era, you can easily argue nintendo over playstation. Their adventure game mix was excellent, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time easily rolls any other adventure game of the time, the first person shooters were good for the time, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark. Even the racing games were decent. Not to mention Mario Party and Super Smash Bros.

Second hand shops and Ebay.

Now, I'm not going so far as to make fun of anyone who thinks the NES is old school, because gaming wasn't really mainstream or popular till the NES, but anything over 16 bits of graphics is definitely not old school.
(I started with the NES, myself . . . then moved back to older consoles like the Amiga, Atari 2200, C64, Apple II . . . sometimes the simplest games are the most fun, like X-trek)

That being said, I advise checking out at least the old SNES games, (DL an emulator and ROMs to try them, but it's best if you get an actual console and the actual games and play them in the original environment), before you consider the PS1 the apogee of console gaming. (I'm more of a pc gamer, as it happens).

If you REALLY want PC games, and can't find them for sale, consider DLing them until you can find a legit copy. But shh, I didn't say that.

P-shaw, you youngsters...

Why, back in my day, I had to type in LOAD "*",8,1 anytime I wanted to play a game. In between game releases I had to make my own in C64 Basic. Yessir, those were the days...

It was the good old Ass key days. I never got far. I kept rubbing my commands on the keyboard, but it did nothing. It was sore for a few days. Maybe I should've tried it on the monitor...or tried using the mouse ball.?. Oooh...that would've been uncomfortable...the mouse ball.

Regarding Fallout 1 and 2...

I believe a company called Black Isle released both them and Fallout tactics on a single DVD a few years ago, which is regularly in the 3 for £10 section of my local GAME.

However, after a bit of research, it seems Interplay have shut Black Isle down.

I'm not sure whether the DVD's region-free, but I've got a copy so I'll look into it. Keep an eye on your PM box, Maggot...

Cool thanks Spann. And with the C64 Deal, the only game i like on C64 would be laser squad. its pwnage hands down. As for the other consoles i got them all emulated (some of them), SNES, Sega Genesis+, that MAME 32 thingy which i dont think was an actual console but an arcade emulator, DOSbox, hmmm.... Oh! and a Nintendo 64 emulator but it sucks balls and doesnt work.
Am i the only one that thinks Nintendo games are pussy? Maybe its cause i've never owned a Nintendo but games like Zelda, super smash brothers, mario party i just get cold feet about. i reckon they're just too fantasyish for my liking. I'm more into blood, guts, huge arsenals and nude cheats.

*Bleeding from most orifices*
Though, that's just a matter of opinion. However, 'too fantasyish' makes me laugh, with irony (sorry), as I see games with absurd blood and guts, rediculous amounts of guns and ammo and enemies walking around naked as too fantasyish.

what you describe is a very, very, narrow range of games. I was always more into puzzle and strategy games, myself, though some intense rail shooters make for some good, if brainless, fun.
I think what you mean by "too-fantasyish" is too kid-friendly, correct? The games you say you've owned are the ones made for the masses, and those are some pretty watered down experiences. For NES, i recommend, hmmm . . . well, platformers like Megaman, bubble bobble, or Kid Icarus, as well as RPG's like the Final Fantasy's, Faria or Crystalis are the mainstay of the NES, but action games like AD&D: dragonstrike, Wizards & Warriors (I, II, and III), Milon's Secret Castle, Conquest of the Crystal Palace or Dick Tracy are also good and quite unique experiences. If you haven't heard of those, you could try them. Also good is The Magic of Scherazade, Bill & Ted's excellent Adventure (well, I found it fun when i was a kid . . .), and Little Ninja Brothers. Good puzzle/adventure games are Maniac Mansion, Fire 'n' Ice, and of course the Lolo games.
Back then, nintendo was very strict on being kid-friendly, so no violence on screen, (people got around that but just barely), no sexual references, no explicit guns, etc. They loosened up by the SNES, but still keep a pretty tight watch. I don't really care, i don't need gore or guns to have fun, like the new batman movie didn't need to go beyond a 12+ rating to be a dark and sinister movie.

If you liked Lazer squad, first, be aware there were about 7 or 8 sequels, 3 of which I think were official and the rest are fan made. Second, you should try the XCOM series, as well as UFO:AI, (a fangame based on XCOM).

And if you can describe your problem with the N64 emulator, (and give me details, like, say, which emulator, what type of file you're trying to run, where you downloaded it from . . .), I can probably help. I handle tech support for an old games community and recently started using Project 64 myself. (Save files keep getting corrupted though. ><)

My problem isn't that so much as it is the fact that they keep releasing the same games over and over and over and over again.

It's the same deal with Squeenix. Do I want to play Final Fantasy 2 (or 4 or whatever)? Sure! I'll play it on my SNES. Or perhaps if the television is in use I'll play it on my PC with an emulator. I do not need to spend $40 on a remake for my DS, thank you kindly.

Meh. Should always mix up your consoles as much as possible. Due to the exclusive content you can find really good games on some of them.

When the parents got the PS2 for Singstar and Buzz I felt like I needed to get a game so it didn't feel underused (it has feelings too) compared to the Xbox (not 360). Got Dynasty Warriors 5 and I've played that probably as much as if not more then any Xbox game I have.
It proved to me that there was something good about Sony's Playstations.

Keeping an idea like 'Nintendo is too fantasyish' is as stupid as bias towards a console you haven't tried. If nintendo or sony produces a promising console I'm more likely to go there rather then continue on with the Xbox.

Not trying to imply anything, but you do own an Xbox, if not an Xbox 360, right Maggot4Life?

HA! how did you know? yeah, i got a 360. Guess the line 'Nintendo games are pussy' is blasphemy. But if I don't want a game with mindless hours of splattering brains onto walls I just go onto the pc, it is probably the best for strategy games and it has all my emulators on it. I guess i am being kinda bias about the whole nintendo thing when i dont have one. and i dont mind the mario party franchise and the 007 games. Also I'm more into tactical shooters, theyre fun, intense, realistic, and TACTICAL! theyre not just a bloody gut explosion fest because you actually DO have to think.

WAIT! was Square Enix once called SquareSoft?
cause squaresoft made the shit.

I've greatly enjoyed (but have not yet finished) Fallout: Tactics. However, I think our copies of 1 and 2 got lost in a move. sad.gif

I started out with an Atari and NES, but I think I enjoyed early PC gaming better. Especially old space flight sims (Man... I miss Tachyon.) and of course adventure games.

Now I feel nostalgic. I wonder if my dad still has his old copy of Terra Nova... and I wonder if I can slow our computer down enough to play the thing.
