Can someone explain the concept of tactical shooters to me?
Meh, the Xbox and it's 360 child were pretty shooter toned. I agree with the PC thing.
I guess the most horrible thing I found with the Nintendo 64 was that Perfect Dark was Goldeneye.
I've been into RTS, FPS and adventure games mostly. Can't stand RPG's and simulators.

Woah, here's a flash back for some people. Sim City 2000!

Here's a flashback for you: Moon landing sim! (2 years before the original sim city. tongue.gif)

Squaresoft and Enix joined to become Squenix. Squenix sucks. But Enix and Squaresoft actually made some pretty good games on their own before that.

Case in point: Rudra (SNES; SQ), and . . . and i forget the name of the one I was thinking about. Top-down, guy with a sword (and magic, and shields), you have to destroy monster lairs to rescue the souls of people and animals that were devoured by an evil being a scientist was forced to summon for a greedy king. It was by ENIX and also on the SNES. It was part of a series, actually, though you'd never guess it without being told. One of the other games, you played a benevolent god in a simplified simcity type thing, and the other one was a platform action game.

Soul Blazer! that's the name! The 7th saga is also by Enix for the SNES and is also pretty good.

Nice, i never played an ENIX game before it merged with squaresoft but there were some killer squaresoft games with parasite eve 1 & 2 being my favourites. Anyone here played them? I got a pirated copy of the first and second ones so the first one is in black and white and the second one gets half-way through the game before freezing totally. Depressing seeing as i left the PS1 on all day when i went out to school (yes i go to school that is why i'm noob and stuff, oh god i bet everyone is going to use that to their advantage now) and got back home expecting it to be loaded. Thats another reason why i want the Gametraders to open soon, so i can finally get to the NEXT FUCKING LEVEL!
I pooped a hammer. I pooped a cornish game hen.

I also go to school. School doesn't effect my opinion of you.

I'm jealous of you for being in school.

Being in school means you get ten weeks holiday a year (in the UK, at least)

I'm quite surprised no-one's pulled a GAME TRADERS ROBINA yet. First thing I thought of when I read it.

I think nobody wanted to be the one to say it.

And yeah, Soul Blazer was awesome, and Parasite Eve 2 is one of my favourite games for the PS1. I'd play it some more, but my disc 1 got totally murdered when I leant it to a mate.

Squaresoft were so awesome before they got owned by Enix. Anyone remember Secret of Evermore?

Was that about the bone-flinging blonde dude and his dog trapped in a big, maze-like swampy jungle I didn't bother trying to get out of after half an hour? Check.

There were much worse mazes in that game. But yeah, that's it.
I loved that game.

secret of evermore was my entry drug into the secret of mana series.

And maggot, why would I make fun of you for going to school? I'm in university studying as a pure mathematician.

It's an age thing. But so long as a person acts mature enough they should be fine, regardless of their actual age. I remember a 12 year old who was more mature then a lot of 16 years olds. He was an admin on another forum.

It was a flashback for me...

Here's a flashback, Pong.

Is a tactical shooter one of those squad type games? Where you can order around one or more hapless cannon-fodder allies? Not overly keen on those games because if I rely on them I die and if I don't rely on them they die.

Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana 1 and 2, Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Trigger were pretty much my reason for existing from the ages of nine to about fifteen.

In fact, very little's changed.

I was never into FFVI. Although I did miss out FFV. Any game with a crossdressing pirate in it is fucking great, in my book.

Eh. To each his own, I guess. To me, FF6 was the peak of the FF series, with great gameplay value and a storyline that managed to ignore the right elements. Before FF7, story was just something that was there, y'know? The authors might've spent a lot of time on it, but they didn't shove it down your throat.

Everything SQ made since FF6 has been more or less crap in my opinion.

Dunno, I didn't like FF7 either, but I found FF8 to be fun, except for the Junction system which was a major source of brainfuckery.
