That's no excuse.

Since I only understood about half of what the guy said, I really hope I didn't misunderstand any of his points. However, this retardation about unneeded plot and storyline cannot go unbashed. Saying "a game needs no storyline and if you want one then read a fuckin' book" is just as stupid as expecting EVERY game to be full of twists and turns and gripping plots. It depends on the game in question. In the Painkiller review, Yahtzee says exactly that the game shouldn't have been a stomping ground for aspiring screenplay writers, and that they shouldn't pretend that the game holds more artistic merit than it actually does.

Now since the bloke refuses to play single player games, I sort understand why he doesn't see the need for story/plot/etc. since multiplayer games are mostly about a.) madskillz FPS with a brain riddled with methamphetamine, or b.) grinding till you get the epic shoulder plate. Neither of these things really requires a story.

Oh yeah, and stating that single player games are for fags is so retarded that I'm not even going to come up with any counter-arguments for it.

I liked, even though I came in with a negative view. He says some good things and some not so good things, but he sort of backs up his points with arguments. I mean, it would be easy to argue against him by saying 'preference', but that's the same with Yahtzee.

Actually, I'm pretty sure he was against that.

But I liked it. It wasn't just another nob off the street trying to use Yahtzee style against him for five minutes of fame and I think on that alone he's alright.

His argument about Brawl is pretty fair. I mean, seriously, some fighting games are button mashers but people who are skilled at SSBB are actually better then those who button mash.

He has insulted Portal and therefore his opinions of anytihng ever are completely invalid.

The whole "canadian" thing doesn't help much either.

Stating the obvious, or...trying to state a fact is not funny.

...it's not an 'American urban myth' you're talking about though - it's plain ol' stereotyping.

We (the English) are crumpet eating, chimney sweeping, upper-class, cockney, chips off the ol' block, didn't 'cha know.

Or beer swilling football hooligan/retards.

It's the same school of thought that condemns all Americans as fat war-mongering retards.

It's not bright, it's not clever, but it suffices for the purposes of humor...because stereotypes are funny and stupid.

Eh.

I mantain that he should have stated some things outright which he didn't, and stuck to his own reviewing style.

I am now wondering, however, whether certain parts of the ramble were swiftian satire, which would explain a hell of a lot.

Wait, what?

Am I missing something? Some of you guys actually seem to be criticizing Jarett for his opinions/method of parody/approach to Yahtzee's style.

I'm pretty certain that this was created as a representation of the views of Jeremy (from the show), not as a true outlet of opinion for the show's creators. The criticism seems rather unnecessary considering the lightheartedness of the parody. I, for one, watched it and enjoyed every minute of it.

Okay, granted, the accent was a little irritating, but I reckon it was a damn sight better than my attempt at a Canadian accent would be. I wouldn't go so far as to begrudge them for stereotyping; not considering the common attitude towards Americans/Canadians that most British citizens share.

I wouldn't criticize him for opposing someone else's opinion (thats an everyday thing), I would criticize him for saying some unfunny 'nap about how much he likes to bone his Xbox achievements and defend the 'innocent' hardcore.

"I kick virtual ass in SSBB."

Big fucking deal. I can kick ass in real life. I do MARTIAL ARTZ. WATTA POW POW. But seriously, I can do crazy kicks.

"[Read a book because there are lots of em out there. HA HA DISREGARD THAT I JUST IGNORED MY OWN ADVICE.]"

Way the go, L337 haX0r.

"Portal is Meh because its not macho and therefore gay."

Opinion which came out your asshole? No problem. I have one too.

"[Hardcore gamers rule over N00bz.]"

I know what you mean;

This was an equivalent to a very unfunny webcomic style rant.
I would like to point out the guy who did one for his Uni did it right (because I learned something) and the 'cool' guy from the leet show of hardcore gayming of Jewtube did it wrong (because fact to me cant be funny).

There is a fine line between smart (or funny) and plain (or stupid).

Okay, I believe portal is a fantastic game. But some people don't play to solve puzzles. Hence, he does not have to enjoy Portal. It's not a vital thing. What if, say, the Queen of England didn't like it? Would that make everything she said invalid.

You need other people to tell you whether it's awesome? I think it is. Well, the right headband.

Lot's of people do Martial Arts (like me). Unless you have medals then it doesn't mean too huge a deal except there's a chance you know how to defend yourself. Remember, Tai Chi is based off martial arts.
And also. So what? He kicks virtual ass in SSBB.

I can basically say one more thing about what you said, Game Over. You're comparing a reviewer who doesn't like moaning noobs he get their arse kicked to Hitler, the guy who caused genocide on the Jews.
For once it's not a matter of scale, it's a matter of revelence.

I preferred this one to the others because while he was copying the style, he did it without having to target Yahtzee. His parody approach was better then the others. And I found even with a negative attitude I could enjoy it.

Real guitar > Guitar Hero
I would rather play a real guitar. Whenever I see someone playing guitar hero, I say to myself 'Man, thats pathetic'.

Hardcore gaming = religious extremism
