It's also strange no one asked exactly why Tartakovsky wasn't asked back, and if Lucas even asked him:

That's not the usual, eager fanboy drivel we're used to. Tartakovsky doesn't even call him "George". He refers to "he" instead. Wow. You'd never catch a fanboy doing that.

Well, Tartakovsky took a lot from SW to make his shows Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, and Samurai Jack. And I completely understand if Lucas would feel threatened by Tartakovsky's style of direction, sequence, timing, and placement of events. I'm not defending Lucas in any way here, but stating his fear of producing quality and having someone else beat him at his own game.

Filoni couldn't do it because he's a yes-man. He also couldn't do it because of his lack of knowledge in actually directing. Lastly, he wasn't focused on the job to make it SW he wanted to mess it up. Lucas liked it and for (I'm betting) the main reason is that CW didn't outdo anything he's thought up.

Tartakovsky uses strong PT elements in all of his shows and because of this, all of his shows work really well. With Samurai Jack, sure there are a few episodes that I don't favor so much, but they are still good episodes none the less. Lucas is afraid of Tartakovsky outdoing him severely with SW. Tartakovsky I believe actually crapped on the PT, but in a possitive way. How? By using a style that can get a message/battle and subject material in a fluid motion. Much like the PT. Tartakovsky studied the PT a lot, and now, that is his directing style, along with bits of Ridley Scott, and throw a bit of James Cameron in there too.

The only way to help the situation is to (like you imply Toru-chan) make your own. Be a master, and get away from the "herd" or slave morality that the PT is. Time to be a master and write your own SW comics and make your own indi films.

I'm pretty sure that the point of the Hegelian dialectic was NOT to encourage fan-fiction. pinch.gif

Most of this thread is VERY VERY PAINFULLY tl; dr.

But I could guess from the previews that the film would be terrible, and I was rather offended by the wooden animation. In college (I just graduated this May) I roomed with a guy who routinely did better animations than this movie for his computer animation major projects. They weren't feature length, but he wasn't a billions of dollars a year computer graphics company, either.

Edit: JM: Yeah, that dude does indeed look like Torgo. Play his theme and I wouldn't mind the differences.

Actually, my dialect was steming from Nietzsche's "Will to Power" and his writings on "Slave and Master Morality."

Oh joy! Here comes the TV series!
I cringed once every 15 seconds, on average. That's not a good sign.

Now this is weird. At Wired some guy called Scott Thill has written this blurb for the series:
QUOTE
The animated TV series that debuts, at last, Oct. 3 on Cartoon Network.

From a feature film to Genndy Tartakovksy's masterful miniseries and onward to books and comics, the conflict has been well documented. So why does Lucasfilm's newest iteration already look like the best show on television this year? Probably because it is... Children's shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars are no exception, except perhaps in their excellence. Tartakovsky's previous series Samurai Jack was an almost wordless amalgam of anime, bushido, sci-fi and Western, but it still smoked not just kids TV but adult programming as well.

Taking a peek at the following pictures and trailer from Cartoon Network's newest, coolest retread, Clone Wars is looking new to you in a big way.

http://blog.wired.co...-wars-tv-s.html

Um... what planet is this guy from? "Taking a peek at the following pictures and trailer". This article is dated Sep 04, 2008. Didn't Thill hear about the movie, its overwhelmingly negative reviews and disappointing box office takings? And why does he keep rambling on about Tartakovsky? I've got to wonder about Mr. Thill. Wired must be a really easy place to be a churnalist.

Meanwhile "Clone Wars" continues its downwards spiral at the Box Office. Despite an earlier spike the International takings seemed to have dropped, but there may be a delay in reporting these.

mellow.gif I can't put Tartakovsky's name to this new CW series. And there is no reason to even mention Samurai Jack in all of this.

This Thill person sounds just as bad as Filoni's thesis for doing the CW movie in the first place.

Why do they have to start every single trailer with Yoda spouting some idiotic, mangled platitude? He has become so obnoxious and useless that I'd honestly love to see him run over by a rogue speeder.

The movie is still limping along, pulling an average $37 per showing (yes, that's less cash than you have in your wallet). But it's still showing on nearly two thousand screens, and so long as it is, some poor sap will walk past and go 'oh wow - a star wars movie - i loved star wars - i think i'll check this out'. If only they would put this horrible little movie (and foresaid movegoer) out of its misery.
http://www.boxoffice...rsclonewars.htm

Ok. The movie didn't do well, but at least people noticed it enough to get the MERCHANDISING, tie-ins? KOTOR and Battlefront were pretty cool, huh? So at least the game won't suck, will it?

You can also use The Force to suck loose change out of fanboys' pockets

Well LucasArts 'Force Unleashed' game has been released for various consoles, and the Gaming Magazines have been less than enthusiastic:

QUOTE
Taking over four years from concept to completion and enduring multiple delays, the long-awaited game is the first next-gen development effort by the small studio, and the first to utilize multiple new technologies and the direct input of Industrial Light and Magic. Taking all this into consideration it comes as a bit of a surprise to see what print media is saying about the game. With four reviews in the can, Force Unleashed has only mustered a meta score of 6.8, with individual publication scores ranging from a mediocre 7.5 all the way down to a pathetic 56.

http://www.thehdroom...views_Ouch/3421

Ouch. That doesn't sound good. Hand-in-hand with Clone Wars, Force Unleashed was supposed to rejuvinate the flagging franchise. Wonder how they botched it? The developers recently mentioned that George Lucas himself provided input on the project.

QUOTE
"Star Wars is and will always be a core part of our DNA at LucasArts," marketing director, Kevin Kurtz, told Reuters. "George Lucas created such a deep universe ripe with possibilities that it will continue to be a source for incredible stories and gameplay for years to come." "George gave us a history lesson about what the major characters in the Saga were doing in that time frame, and offered feedback and suggestions about the plot and characters," said Haden Blackman, executive producer of the game at LucasArts.

If you haven't heard yet, Force Unleashed is based around a new character to the universe, which is Darth Vader's secret apprentice. The demo went down a storm and has claimed all sorts of crazy records, according to LucasArts.

http://www.computera...e.php?id=196990

Yeah. Lots of people download free demo. You'll need better reviews than that to get their money, George.

Wookiepedia has pages and pages of crap on it. I can't be bothered reading it:

Yoda is the new Jar-Jar Binks. We need a yodamustdie.com.

Amazing.

I too was wondering about "The Force Unleashed." I thought that Vader's hidden apprentice was a woman... oh well.

When the PT was at it's tyranical apex, the games coming out were good. Jedi Outcast, KotOR, Jedi Acedemy (it was okay), Republic Commando, and a few others. All these titles were a lot of fun to play. And for this new installment, although not hearing much, I did have somewhat high hopes for it so that it could counter the mess of the CW.

Uhhh, looks like that isn't happening anytime soon. That's a shame. The games are what kept me optimistic about the future of SW. After the SNES titles of SW games, they only got better over time. SotE was great and following titles were a lot of fun. When EPI came out, the pod-racing game for it was pretty good (I thought). Now, it's bad movies, bad games, and aweful value meals from burger-chains.

None of it is worth having hopes for now.

Clone Wars has been a big train wreck, but there's money in the franchise yet:
QUOTE

Despite the less-than-glowing praise, The Force Unleashed has been a huge success at retail. Today publisher LucasArts--which self-developed the ambitious game before trimming its payroll--announced that over 1.5 million copies of the game were sold worldwide in the game's first week on the market. So far, LucasArts has shipped 4.3 million copies to retailers internationally, but is ramping up production to meet "unprecedented demand."

The Force Unleashed's retail milestone makes the game the fastest-selling title in both LucasArts and Star Wars history, according to the publisher. "The record-setting sales of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed shows the undiminished power of Star Wars and its popularity across all media types, including video games," said LucasArts president Darrel Rodriguez. He succeeded longtime president Jim Ward, who oversaw the expansion of LucasArts' internal development team for Unleashed. Ward resigned suddenly in February, citing personal reasons.

Here's their review:
http://au.gamespot.c...007/review.html

Unfortunately I can't vouch for it, because they're not releasing it on the PC. I've got a good mind to travel to Redmond and remove all the toilet paper(*) just to get the idiots that killed PC gaming with that absurd Vista DirectX10 bundling. http://bink.nu/news/...-a-mistake.aspx

I've been waiting to announce the Clone Wars movie IS DEAD but the annoying thing is still hanging in there. Down from 3,452 screens to just 688, it's now collecting a scant $29 per showing. Please cinemas of America, put this horrible little thing out of its misery. Clone Wars is the 21st Century's Christmas Special.
http://www.boxoffice...rsclonewars.htm

(*) = Yes. I've actually done things like that.

Heh, Lucas is going to milk it for every penny he can get out of it.

No matter how bad, he'll leave it in the theaters and still call it success.

It's kind of funny how this topic is related to bashing The Clone Wars movie and upcoming series yet there is an advertisement banner at the top of the page for the series. Something I thought I'd point out.

Anyways, I will not have anything to do with The Clone Wars at all. I didn't see the movie (if you can even call it that) nor will I waste time to watch the series when it premieres. Star Wars is over for me. I will take the original trilogy and cherish it with a slight regard to the prequels and remember there was a time when Star Wars was pretty cool.
"And shepherds we shall be for Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth unto Thee and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti!!!"

Yes. Points to Jaded Wolf. I guess most of us still 'aren't over' this particular ex-girlfriend. We hate her, but we can't stop talking about her. But to push the analogy too far, Clone Wars was a really lousy date. I won't be going on any others.

LOL. Is there? That's funny. If ChefElf is making a bit of money from Lucasfilm, on a site known for skewering Lucas, well that's funny. I use AdBlock Plus, so although the ads are sent to my browser, my browser doesn't show them. Everyone wins, except Mr. Lucas. :-)
