Since everyones seemingly allergic to the forum of my blog, you can post stuff here. Just please, I've got coursework in for Thursday...

Sounds like you need a new hard drive. It's hard to say. I'm not sure what, if anything, on your network card could click, so ignore the network card. More than likely your hard drive is burnt out.

Linux is looking lovely this time of year.

I mean, I don't use it, but it's probably less likely to cause burnouts.

Or something. unsure.gif

I doubt that his OS has anything to do with his hard drive giving out. More than likely, it was an older drive that had seen better days. Oh well, hard drives are getting cheaper all the time. Good luck with that.

Fraid that clicking noise is your drive's read head smacking against the actual disk platter. Most likely your data is still in there and could be recovered after mechanical repair of the drive itself (dunno whether your manufacturer can do that, or how much it might cost,) but I'm afraid it's beyond a software fix. Replace the drive and restore your backups.

Right, so you think it's repairable, just not by software?

Thank all powers of God and Man for that... biggrin.gif
