20 deg c in Summer? Oh, how you must be freezing over there. Though its nice to hear that you have a physics degree. I was feeling quite lonely amongst the arts and humanities majors sad.gif

Well, yes, Poland is a little bit cooler than Western Australia South of Perth. I remember this much from Geography lesson tongue.gif

And I am glad that you have a physics degree too... (No offence to arts and humanities, of course smile.gif )

Still working on it, sadly. In my third year of a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Chemistry and Physics. At least I'm on the latter end now.

And you actually looked at WA's climate at school, or was that just a blanket comment?

Yes, I do remember the climate for WA from geography lessons. As far as I recall, Australia only in a small part is temperate, most of it is sub-tropical or tropical.

It is perhaps no small wonder that I remembered that. In class we were given a blank map of the world and were asked to draw boundaries of equatorial, tropical, sub-tropical, temperate and arctic zones. It was such a traumatic experience that I remember it till now. The nightmare of high school never goes away, I am afraid. To this day the worst nightmare I have is that of a physics lesson (despite my subsequent physics degree).

And good luck with your degree!

Just wanted to share a cool thing that happened on my recent retreat weekend.

Since last June, our staff had three, all-day meetings at two staff members’ incredible, palacial home. Nice genuine people too. The day of the third meeting, weeks ago, they were really sad because their Golden Retreiver was about to die. After taking him all over the state to examine the options, the dog died.

This past weekend, I was out of town and missing my pup Louis, so I was very happy to see a friendly dog up at Camp McDowell (a retreat center for our Episcopal district) This (rescued) spaniel was nimble as all get out. He was toying with me really, letting me get close, then sprinting away with great loops around me in the soccer field. He wore me out and I felt like a kid again.

Later that day, my “prayer partner” was giving a talk, and as such it was my duty to go to the chapel and meditate for her. Lost in meditation, strolling down the lane I felt something brush against my leg. It was that dog.

So I knelt and petted on him as I continued in prayer. He really made me feel better, missing my Louis, and I was amazed at his easygoing manner. And timing. I’d have been happy praying there for the duration but after a few minutes he was ready to move on. And so did I, down to the chapel.

Fifteen or so minutes later, My prayer partner finished her talk and came to find me. I told her about what had happened and she told me that the dog had entered the assembly room and rested for awhile. I was blown away! And it gets better.

That night I told this tale to the gracious host of our meetings (the fellow who lost his Golden) to try to cheer him up with a nice dog story. Turns out the dog at camp roamed the room until eventually Resting Only at This Guy’s Feet! Freaking incredible.

Or coincidental. take your pick. smile.gif

That is a really nice story, Despondent. It's good to hear things like this. Really nice.

OK, another PRT

I think I am the only person who reads textbooks for pleasure. There are two types; one is completely dumb, the other aspire to arouse your interest. In my English course I was fortunate enough to use a coursebook by Leo Jones, Profficiency level (can’t remember the title rith now). There was one particularly hilarious passage about film clichés. Among the listed there were the following, (not quoted literally)

1. A man is able to withstand substantial beating without as much as a grunt, but winces when a women tries to clean his wounds.
2. When you are a young and beautiful woman, it is possible to become a specialist in nuclear fission at the age of 22.
3. At least one of the identical twins must be evil.
4. When driving a car on perfectly straight road it is necessary to constantly turn the wheel.

When I started my driving lessons, this is exactly what I did, only to be told not to. But again, it was an influence of films – I honestly thought this is what you do when driving!

I would add one of my own clichés –
If meteorites fall on the surface of the Earth, they always cunningly choose on New York and Paris as their target.

Any more?

I think I've seen that list before somewhere. Seemed familiar. And I would say you are the only person who reads textbooks for fun. Hell, I can't even bring myself to read them to avoid failing exams.

The hero will always win the girl, even if he would be better off dead.

I dunno, I've cracked open a few texts before. I don't do it often and I've never gone through a foreign text, but I've spent several hours with a paranormal psychology text. It's just interesting stuff.
