I already resisted the urge to go on a bike ride at five in the morning when it was pitch black out.

Why did you resist that? That's fun! It's still dark, nobody's up, and it's cooler than daylight hours! Perfect time, in my opinion.

Pitch black. I couldn't see, and I had no lights which could be attatched to my bicycle in non-clumsy ways.

Plus, as I had forgotten at the time, my tires are so flat that at times I'm biking on the metal of the wheel. Which makes it extremely difficult and unpleasant to actually move said bicycle. And my tires are weird, and need to be filled with an extention on the end of the pump, which I have lost.

The cookies were delicious, though. Although now I feel a bit sick. Turns out a spoon of cookie dough is a bit more fillling than I thought.

Not necessarily - happiness can make you feel more energetic, alert, and confident, so you're more likely to get something accomplished in a positive state of mind.

Sadness goes with worry and depression, then you're more concerned with the melancholy inside your head than what's going on around you. And unless you're the type who's into wallowing in a pool of your own angst and that's the only thing that can really get you going, odds are nothing is going to get done apart from sitting alone in the dark.

...Unless you're talking about society as a whole, where an overly-prosperous nation can lead its people to become indolent and complacent, but pain and oppression can stir a people into action, inspiring them to fight for a better life. Is that what you mean?

I just saw something that both baffled and amused me greatly: a campus police officer on a segway.

He was just pacing/rolling back and forth on it behind the station, and I couldn't stop starring until he got off. Then I started twisting around to see if anyone else was as entranced by the sight.
