I was flipping through one of my Popular Science and my attention was captured by these amazing glasses that could apparently play movies with the same resolution as a VGA monitor. When I did some research into the subject, I was surprised to find out that these had been around for a few years, and I guess people don't value tech as much as I do because, outside of that magazine and the web, I've never seen any of these. Anyway, if you want to check them out they're at www.myvu.com.

Yeah, badboys like these have been used as spy equipment for years. Check out the film "True Lies" with Schwarzenegger. That film was pretty up to date for the times. I'm sure better things have come out since then.

These however look more for entertainment and possibly a great new step up from old VR sets. I wouldn't doubt companies such as Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are going to incorporate this with some games real soon. They should have done it already really...

But this also brings to mind the VR set that Itchy had from the Star Wars Holiday Special... Yes, as Chefelf has finely stated, Itchy was in his "Wookie Masturbation Chamber." Ohh, what Mature and Adult video games can venture into now... only time or perverts will tell.

You know why no one talks about them? Because they're a bad fucking idea. They're impractical, pointless, and above all else, they're ugly as fucking sin. These are worse than Oakley's god-awful MP3 player glasses that I only ever see on either
a. Dog The Bounty Hunter or
b. Other miscellaneous white trash.

"Personal media viewer"? We have those already. They're called laptops, PSPs, cell phones, MP3 players, and PDAs. The last thing we need on top of people being connected to a computer 24 / 7 is to have them doing it while walking around looking like the retarded half cousin of Mark Mothersbaugh.

You've got a point Hecc. It's all more mess to make people more alienated and then they complain that the world is getting smaller.

I know texting is a problem while driving, and last time I checked it is illegal to drive with headphones in/on your ears. These new glasses will cause more accidents because you know having an LCD tv installed on the dashboard wasn't enough.

Well before they start selling these in mass numbers, lets hope they at least put the disclaimer on the package stating, "Do not use product while operating machinery, driving, or in public restrooms."

And what is all this ruckus about "Dog the Bounty Hunter?" Why the hell is he so famous?!

Pretty sure that if they caught on, they would be illegal to use while driving. It's the same as obstructing your view (like blocking your mirrors or windshield. that'll get you pulled over in a jiffy.) Especially since they have headphones on them. Man I could imagine the guy using these while driving and leading a cop for 10 miles before getting ran off the road.

They really are ugly as hell. However, I could see them being useful on a long flight or train journey, as I find PSPs and Ipods too small to watch for a prolonged period of time, and I always find it a little difficult to get comfortable and get the screen in the right position on my laptop to watch movies in the cramped conditions that these methods of transport provide.

With those glasses though, you could just kick back and relax, avoiding holding things or moving screens about. If only the were a little more inconspicuous.

Good god, those things are ugly as sin. Who thinks this crap is a good idea?

This sounds like a great idea! Like riding a bicycle and eating a hotdog! On broken glass! On the interstate! On the 3rd of July!

Hmm... No, I can live without them.

Wouldn't having a tv that close to your eyes really mess up your vision? Maybe the health risks are what keeps them from mass consumption...

I think what keeps them from store shelves is the fact that they're mind-numbingly stupid. They're lousy both in concept and in execution. That sort of failure is rare.

two things...

1. These will be so bad for your eyes.

2. These will be so bad for the rest of your body as no doubt morons will try to walk about wearing them and walk into people and ultimatley have the ever living shit beaten out of them by people like me.

By the way, I've seen these advertised in USA Today.

I believe this means that only old people will end up buying them. Since they can't see anyway (can't hurt what you don't have any longer), they'll probably replace their giant old people driving glasses with these on accident and run me off the road.

I'll see you folks in the afterlife!
