Google does.

I wouldn't be asking for it if I google hadn't failed me before.

Pound Sterling, tbh. I'm quite proud of the strength of the Pound. Makes me well up to know how goddamned British I am.

The pound has always been a strong currency.

Um, sorry if my post relates to the original topic, for some reason, it's what I've been thinking about since I got on this thread.

A-hem... Yahtzee will do as he pleases, and I will enjoy it. Really, never once did I think that I'd enjoyed Yahtzee's reviews would be more entertaining if he talked about games I'm interested in. I actually thought his Brawl review was a little weak. He sounded depressed, and his clear reluctance to review the game made him seem like he hated me for just watching him. However, he liked God of war, and was interested in it, and I thought it was a great video. If he keeps doing what he likes to do, he'll be a more entertaining person.

As for his hatred of his fanbase, for a while I thought it was a playful sort of thing. Then I read a post where he stated that he really, truly hated us, thus brushing away any ambiguity. I like to think, "Oh, he's referring to the stupid ones, not me. Whyever would he dislike a bright young man who appreciates his work?" But we all like to think that we're intelligent individuals with interesting things to say, so we have no idea if we're one of the idiots who he's aways scorning. Except if you're giving suggestions to him, and telling him how to be funnier. I'm pretty sure he hates that, and maybe you should hold off on it.

Why is this person trying to hijack my exchange rate thread with his irrelevant nonsense?

Incidentally, this is my third picture. Someone should have offered to pay me for posting these by now.

I don't think that needs the explaination, it's the same reason we all hate them. What I would like to see is an explanation of why people play them.

Same reason you may play whatever video games you play. Because they are entertaining.

And the added reason that they are addictive.
I believe a Blizzard rep admitted to the press that programmers hid lines of coke between the lines of code.

That's a common misconception I see quite often the internet.
Addictiveness is more a matter of the person playing than anything else. All MMORPGs do, in general, is offer the potential for longer amounts of gameplay that doesn't get old and boring as fast as other genres tend to. The reason that people seem to get so addicted is that deep down, most people have appallingly weak self-control.
For instance, a good friend of mine has a brother who spends all day, every day on Xbox Live. He never goes out of his room save for food and to go to school. Why is this? Because with Live, a person can play for hours and hours on end without getting bored. I personally play WoW and have an active social life, good grades in school, and am in no way addicted. I occasionally lose tracki of time and play slightly too much, but that can happen in any game.

*shrug*

Just my two cents.

Dunno, I think that the symptom you described can be pretty much classified as addiction, that is, the player depends on playing the game, he feels that it gives his life purpose, a sense of achievement. For example, even at school he's thinking about the fullepic gear he'll scrape together in that night's raid.
I know fully well what this is like, I had worn this particular 'One Ring' before, and I'm not too proud of it. My friend had it worse, but after we hooked him up with a girlfriend he had to pack that shit in, too.

I think that the older you get, the more you realize how pathetic "hardcore" gamers are, especially if you were one. Some things are always ridiculous, though. I cite The Sims as an example. I knew too many people who actually got addicted to it. With all the time they spent on somebody else's fictional life, they could have learned guitar, worked on their physique and fed their children. Real life is way cooler than video games.

Unless you blow people's heads up, in which case video games win.

EDIT: Thanks for the update, AdamM. I was biting my nails in anticipation. Anybody want to take bets?

I concur on most of that. But remember, hardcore gamers are also those guys who telefragged heaps in Unreal Tournament 10000000. And those who went around knifing people in Counter Strike: The Land Before Time.

If the number goes down it means your products are cheaper for that nation when buying from you, right?

Patch, the number is how much of that currency you can get for one pound sterling. If the number goes up the currency is weaker against the pound and vice versa. As far as I can tell there are few people on this board from the UK so this is probably a useful yardstick to compare all these dollars against each other. As you can see the Aussies are doing worse than the Americans, who are doing worse than the Canadians.

It's still ridiculous how weak the American dollar is. I wonder if it has anything to do with us buying expensive nation-building quagmires across huge oceans or having a government so wasteful it spends billions of dollars a year running ads telling you to make sure and bring your own bag to the supermarket?

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that we print up money out of thin air anytime we feel the economy is in danger. Why back the economy with anything like a gold standard? It's much more fun to play with Monopoly money.

I'm not bitter.
