Ok, I have to confess: latelly I've been spending some time on the SW Episode III forums. I'm not registered, but some of the discussions there are so ridiculously funny , it's better than the News Desk..

Anyway, I ended up with this theory as to why these people like the prequels. It's a bit complex, so bear with me while I make my point : They are kinda short-brained!.

There I am reading 326 replies on a topic called Qui-Gon as a ghost. (Yeah, I got some free time latelly). In the end everybody agrees that Qui-Gon appearing as a ghost in Ep III would be kinda cool blink.gif (and that, yes, it is possible for ANY Jedi to do "ghosties")

Let alone that fact that,.. well,.. no, it's not so cooll, not one reply (mind you there are 326) has ever wondered : Jedis made peace in the galaxy for a thousand generations! If everybody had the possiblity to come back.. now you end up having more ghosts arround than actual people.. what gives dry.gif

It sounds trivial, I know, but it's getting the nerve out of me!!
I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you read is not what I meant.

I think, Radu, that some people are just born as dickheads and these people on the Episode III forums are generally these kinds of people.

It's quite natural to wonder why people like these films and try to rationalise their behaviour so it can makes sense but at the end of the day, some people just don't have a clue.

I mean, there are people in this world who love Titanic and were sad when Friends finished it's final season. Some people are just plain nuts.

OMG, Friends had it's final season!!?? blink.gif

kidding.

I think what really gets to me is that "these" kind of people end up stealing all the good movies. Prequels were made stupit for a "perfect fit" into these guys brains..

I don't even wanna remember how nervous I got when first watching Gladiator.. there's a chance of makin a multimillion dollar Roman Empire movie. The first 15 minutes of the movie made me shiver.. then it all becomes about a stupid wrestling match in the arena !? And don't get me started on Pearl Harbor.. <edit> And I'm sure they'll mess up Troy pretty bad aswell (comming this summer , I think)

Feels like nowadays the only way of making a blockbuster is making sure the plot sucks.

Actually, I think you're definitely on to something there. I read this article on the internet one day about why Friends was so popular and it made a lot of sense.

The article argued that people watched Friends because somebody told them they should (to be cool or for whatever reason). So advertising companies went "Whoa! These people are watching a crap program because someone told them they should? If they are so damn brainless, maybe they will buy our products just because we told them to."

So all these advertising companies paid big bucks to the television network to get their advertisements placed in this show because this show had an audience of gullible idiots who'd buy anything. Hence the networks wanted to keep the show on as long as possible. And I guess the dumber the show was, the more gullible its audience was for watching it... and hence, they were even more of a captive market of idiots.

Perhaps something similar is at work in the prequels. If people are so stupid that they will watch these shitty movies over and over again, then they'll probably be very easily convinced to buy the computer games that these movies are advertising. The evil of commercialism may well be the heart of these stupid movies.

Well, you can't help but notice in Ep1. there's a
- pod race in Ep.1 ... (Game opportunity nr. `1)
-space fight... (Opp. nr 2)

And what's funny about them is they both have nothing to do with the whole plot line. Sure, the pod race was to get money, and bla, bla, bla but they are clearly "inserted" in the movie there. GL could do much a better plot w/out them. And they actually account for 1/3 ( or 1/2 ? ) of the movie

Now you get to Ep.2

Man. factory on Geonosys .. game opp. nr 3.
Asteroid field chase near Geon. game opp. 4
Wrestling in the Arena on Geonosys .. game opp. nr 5
Duel w/ count Doku .. game opp. nr 6

omg.. these things just keep poping out.I'll stop here

again, nothing much to do with the general plot line, but still looong minutes dedicated to this..

I sincerely get the feeling the prequels are nothing more than a big trailer for all the cool games from Lucasarts..

Expect a platform style game out next year where you can be Obi Wan and fight General Grievous called Yet Another Droid Factory.

"Yet Another Droid Factory, the best thing since Super Mario coming soon to a toy store near you!"

Well one thing I will say for the computer games that I have played under the Star Wars banner - they have a hell of a lot better story associated with them than the PT has been able to produce.

Knights of the Old Republic is one of my favourite games. I wont say that it was superb in terms of story originality, but it is sure as hell streets ahead of the movies we're currently being subjected too.

i don't get the big facination...

the people who love the the PT are the same people who;
1. love boy bands (like N-Sync, Back Street Boys, Korn, Limp Bizcut).
2. think the leaf blower is a great and practical invention.
3. are in love with Britany Spears, Jessica Simpson, Mariah Carey
4. think that having money gives you 'class'
5. watch reality TV
6. aspire to be like the inbread hicks that star in reality TV
7. have now discovered how pop music works thanks to American Idol, and still don't have a problem with it
8. think that the top 40 chart is based on sales on not the other way around
9. think that Jennifer Lopez has talent in any other area than being a filthy overpaid whore!

and so on...

I just think PT lovers are in shock and denial and have to keep telling themselves that this crap is great or their whole Star Wars fanatasy world will come crashing down around their poor little ears.

Barend, you are right on, my friend. And you have dug up a pretty comprehensive list of the stupid things that so many dickheads in the world like.

Boy bands, Spears, Simpson, Carey and freakin' reality television will never go away as long as these dickheads keep supporting them.

I've noticed recently that the MSN homepage has been posting a shitload of crap about what a great show Friends was. They have got to be kidding me!

And lastly... damn, I hate the leaf blower!

blink.gif I'll get rid of these leaves by... um.. blowing them over here...

Yeah, great. Now what are you going to do with them?
