I have never seen someone who was taller then 6'2 who didn't habitually slouch over (no men, anyway). Likewise, I have never seen someone shorter then 5'4 who didn't walk perfectly ram-rod upright and add inches with thick soled boots and high heels. Everyone seems to, subconsciously or not, push themselves towards the mean.

As someone who is of perfectly average height for my weight and gender, the Tall vs. Short battle is one I've never been part of. So which is better, to be tall or short?

Tall.

/thread

But seriously, I do prefer being able to reach things and tower over people. Plus, its a wonderful thing to annoy short girl(friend)s with.

Tall.

It's hard to be taken seriously when you're short.

I think it's better for a girl to be really short than really tall, as guys don't like to go for girls that tower over them, and the girl gets really self-conscious of her height if she is tall (I have several really tall girl friends). However, short is annoying, too. I'm short. 5'2". I don't bother with heels and stuff but I wouldn't say no to a late growth spurt! I definitely used to walk/stand up straight as possible but various medical problems beat that habit out of me. I'm working on it though because no matter what height you are, slouching is unattractive.

Short sucks because you can't reach things and can't do things where there is a height requirement - for instance, I will never get to be a Blue Man because they have a height requirement of 6' or something. sad.gif

And I think for guys tall is better because of the same, but reversed, reason as the girls don't want to be too tall.
I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

Neither is "better," but for men a great deal of emphasis is placed socially on height, so tall is better, but it peaks around 6'2." Taller than that the effect starts to wane, especially if like most guys that height you're also skinny. Some guys have jobs too where size comes into play a lot, moreso than women.

With women, tall and slim looks great in dresses and long coats, but since most women aren't models, I think 5-9" is the ideal. Women take height more seriously than men do, IMO, and require taller partners more than men require shorter ones. You sometimes hear gals who are 5'0" saying they like men to be at least 6'. Whereas physical requirement statements from men usually come in the form of slimness, usually weight proportionate to height. So a lot of short guys have a hard time finding the right gal, while a lot of tall women have similar trouble when they meet guys who want to date women shorter than they are.

I don't think I have seen the slouching and reaching phenomenon that Dreamer refers to. I did notice Ashton Kutcher slouched a lot, but apart from that, no.

I'm 6'2" and I slouch. Then again, I also have scoliosis. So I mean...yeah.

Tall for sure.

Both my parents are short, mom is 5'1" Dad is 5'8"
my sister and is 5'3" and im about 5'4"
and (sadly) one of the taller girls in the family

It is sort of a thing among me and my female cousins
beacuse we are short no one wants their kids to be short and picked on.
Especially boys, oh those terrible high school days

So we would like guys at least 6' or even better
6'2" to 6'4" is like the dream, but as Civ said It is so hard to find
not to mention whether he has the right morals and atittude.

I tend to agree with Civ#2 on the breakdown of the generalisation, but for me personally it's actually about hearing. I'm just over 6' tall. When I'm standing around a number of people that are shorter than me I tend to slouch. Not to be a part of the mean but rather to put myself into the conversation. It's even more pronounced in loud venues.

When I'm with other friends, such as my cricket mates who are mostly around my height I tend to be standing upright. Again because that is where the conversation is.

I'm 5"10 is that short or tall? I think I'm pretty much the average of the average. If I'm honest I would like to be about 6 feet but seeing how I was told as a child I would be lucky to top out at 5"5 (I was tiny until I was 17) I probably shouldn’t complain.

While I don’t like to get too hung up on looks I would agree that its better that the man is taller in a relationship just because we've seen how ridiculous it looks when a guy is walking down the street with his girlfriend towering over him. It’s a stupid stereotype but there it is.

I'm 5'7" when I don't slouch, but I have terrible posture, so I don't often look it. I don't care about height in anybody, unless it's too large a difference, and that's only in initial outlook on prospective relationships due to potential numerous problems related to height differences (and very tall, built women intimidate me tongue.gif ). I'm sure I could get over it with the right person; it would just be extra awkward at first.

I definitely perceive that in society, men are supposed to be tall, and women are supposed to be average, but like I said, it's not important to me.

It's even better when we post one after the other! I could also change my signature and title so they matched yours to make it worse! tongue.gif

But I won't. I'll even change my avatar soon, just for you, Hecc.

I'm a little shorter than average, and I like it ok. I enjoy climbing on stuff to get stuff I can't reach, and it would look pretty silly if I were taller.

One of my friends is about 6' and she wears high heels all the time. She married a tall guy, though. I've dated taller and shorter, no preference. Taller makes me feel girlier, and shorter means I can run faster.
