So I know a bunch of you have jobs and all. I was just wondering what they are! I'm a student at Hampshire College, but during the Summer I have been working as an office worker. Its not a bad job, even though I have to get up at 6:40 in the morning and work for 8 hours every day, five days a week. On the plus side, I just have to do some data entry, and occasionally answer phones! How about you? What is YOUR job like?

I do customer service and data entry at a cute little independent bookstore. I also do a lot of reading! I don't get out of work until 8 PM, but I don't go in until 3, three days a week. And I get up early and work every other weekend. So I don't get so many hours that I'm rich. But it's a lovely job, my boss is great, and I'm NOT WORKING AT STAPLES!, which rocks.

I am a publications officer for a college in the Bronx. I do very little data entry, but I do some Quark layout, some editing and proof-reading, and some fact-checking type work. I hear rumours that I will write stuff, too. The downside is that it is a 90 minute commute from my apartment. But even the downside has an upside, since that's 90 minutes I have to read books on the train!

Jen, I was thinking the other day about things I wouldn't mind doing for a living (there are precious few), and "laying things out with Quark, copy editing, and a little writing" was right up there. I guess my education in psychology will prepare me for this unassuming career (or similar) as well as anything else. It's just those pesky interpersonal-communication-skill-requiring jobs I fear!

I'm a full time student, studying for a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Physics and Chemistry.

Unfortunatly, that doesn't yet pay me anything. Infact, It just increases the amount I owe the government by about 5 grand per year. As such, to pay for petrol and videogames, I must take up some casual work.

I work at a local supermarket on checkouts, as well as stacking shelves and collecting trolleys. I also work at out cities football ovals on the weekends, doing either cashering or gate attendant. On top of this, I work as a turnstile attendant at the royal show for the week per year that its on. Finally, I also tutor high school students in physics, chemistry and maths.

I'm a full-time student majoring in Human Services, year-round; I go to summer courses as well because I'm just that cool.

I also get paid to correct people's grammar, which is wicked awesome because this is something I do in my free time anyways.

I'm taking 20 credits this semster. I can only pray that I'll survive. Wish me luck!

Mechancal Engineering, soon to be in Civil. I hate Mechanical. I'm not sure if engineering is for me. Will I enjoy it? I'm not sure. I'm still searching really. What I do know is that after I grad (2 more years) I will be off to Japan to teach english.

I need to take a break from school~

I don't feel alone though, I know most of my friends don't know what they want either.

Huh. Another school offers a human services major? Ours (at my school; I'm not in it although some of my friends are) looks to be on the verge of shutting down (that is, not accepting any new freshman), which makes me sad. Majors flourish in inverse proportion to their usefulness.

Human Services, or "HSV," if you are the kind of "hip" that belongs "in" quotation "marks," is actually a very popular major here on the Eastern Seaboard. This is probably because we are a convent of dirty hippies who can work for no money with their master's degrees, preferring instead to trade organically-grown items for goods and services with each other in a sort of tribal barter society.
