By the way, if anyone I know from my real life reads the above and thinks I am a loser for talking about Internet forum etiquette, you are totally and completely right, and I totally accept your resignation from our friendship.

QUOTE (Caolan @ May 6 2004, 09:24 PM)
occasional weirdos popping up and saying mean things in the middle of a thread is in accordance with ordinary Lanceandeskimo behavior.

Yeah, those were good days.

QUOTE (Officer B @ May 6 2004, 04:09 PM)
Look, I was the "Ugnar the Stench Revealer" and the "Thrax the Fuck-You-Sayer" and all the rest. If I promise to be good, can we move back to the old forum? I don't like this one much.

Believe me, Officer B, the forum switch has NOTHING to do with you. Posting with funny names has never been something L&E was against, in fact we encouraged it! wink.gif

The change, as explained, is due to a number of factors. Primarily it is because of spamming (both by bots and by some kid that has tormented us in the past). The forum system we had in place made this very difficult to moderate and, more preferably, prevent.

This new board allows greater ease of moderation as well as offering much more features for our users.

I know that people are very reluctant to accept changes but let me assure you that you will get used to this new forum. I'm open to any suggestions anyone may have as far as laying it out in a more pleasing manner.

Nonsense. Internet forum etiquette is an important part of life!

It is back. Hopefully it doesn't get abused but we shall see.

What are you saying? We've been abusing the hell out of it in the lobby. "word of the day"

I was against it at first, but then after time started to find it fun. In a silly stupid way.

I like the stats. It shows us who are the true forum lackies, and who are not.

I'm all for status bars; I just feel left behind because I didn't happen to post all that much on chelf elf's site. However, I was a regular poster on the lanceandeskimo message boards from day one and now all that accomplishment has been wiped clean away. Competition for competitions sake is healthy and fun, but its rough when everyone else has an unfair headstart.

Maybe, but on the other side of the coin you are member #5 which adds age to your status. People would kill to have been in on the action that early. biggrin.gif

A NOTE TO RORY AND EVERYONE ELSE FROM THE L&E FORUM COMMUNITY

If numbers are that important to you I can go back through the old forums, calculate the total posts for each user and then add that number to the posts for the new forum. That way everyone would get their deserved post numbers and "status" bars.

Personally I don't care but I'll leave this offer open should anyone want me to do this to see what everyone thinks.

To give you an idea here are the post totals for the top users of the old board:

Let me know all of your opinions on the matter.

I like the comprehensize stat system. It puts me almost perfectly in line with when I joined the chelf elf forums. I'm number four in total posts and the fifth person to join his forums!

Okay. If we add 889 to your posts we're going to have to add to others' as well. Anyone else?

I'd like to get a broader range of opinions before going ahead with it.
