I went to the movie rental joint recently to get Stardust (highly reccomended) and see The Painted Veil (The trailer is deceptive, theres no war or nationalists or warlords, its just 2 hours of sniping and cholera) Besides that I saw posters for fine cinema such as "monster snake" or this movie where crows kill people. These are respectable movies, people. But then I saw a poster for Air Bud: Snow Buddies. And it brought up the question: When I rule a soviet style proletariat dictatorship, would I have people that do stuff like this assassinated by my secret police? It's a complex moral debate that I think needs a conclusion, and there are heroes on both sides, as George Lucas might put it.

Now, it is wrong to kill people unless they've comitted serious crimes like horrible murderrape, torture, counter revolutionary crimes, oppression, genocide, etc. Could Air Bud World Pup be considered a counter revolutionary crime? Possibly. I can't explain why but I do know in my heart that the ideology of my revolution is in direct conflict with any ideology that would allow "Air Bud Spikes Back" to be produced. Also it could be said that they are oppressing dogs and actors to produce their films.

However in arguing against it we must consider that for one they havent directly hurt anyone, just trained dogs to play umpteen sports, which doesnt necessarily have to be done through enslaving hte poor animal. Also, there may be something mentally wrong with the people producing it that would come out in a trial, but not in an extrajudicial execution.

So I'm not really sure what policy to write into my socialist constitution to be. Maybe after paying for and viewing one or two of the Air Bud movies I'll be more decisive. What do you guys think?

If I decide I can sit through any one of these (six? seven?) awful movies, I have decided that it will be Spikes Back. Why you ask? Because this review from comingsoon.net inspired me:

QUOTE
Synopsis:
This is the fifth film in the Air Bud series.

When Andrea’s best friend moves to California, she is determined to earn money to fly out and visit her. Andrea and her little brother start a dogsitting business to earn the cash. She also gets some help from her new next-door neighbor Connor. Connor also gets Andrea hooked on beach volleyball. She isn’t very good at it at first, but she eventually becomes a pro. When they are short a player in a league tournament, Andrea brings in Buddy to play. He not only proves to be very good at volleyball, but he helps them win the championship as well.

Little do they know, but Buddy has also attracted the attention of two incompetent jewel thieves. They want the well-trained Buddy to help them sneak through a security system and steal a rare jewel.

Unfortunately, Buddy is bitten by a bat and becomes rabid. After ripping the throats out of the thieves, he proceeds to go on a bloody rampage through the quiet town. Will Andrea find the courage to kill her former lovable pooch? (OK, I made that last part up. Sorry Air Bud fans!)

When a reviewer can see justification in fucking with a movie that much I'm inclined to find out just what horrors led them to such jests.

I'm working on Space Buddies, the next in the series. In this one, the puppies go into SPACE!

Well this one has a cosmonaut in a Soviet space station who's gone crazy from solitude. He's played by Diedrich Bader, who played Oswald on the Drew Carey Show.

I'm sold. As long as they somehow manage to play golf I say let's make it happen.

Just seeing trailers for movies like this on TV makes me feel embarrassed. I can't imagine actually watching that crap without feeling like a cheap whore afterwards.

I think killing is far too harsh of a punishment, though. Also, it's not amusing or degrading enough.
