Just curious about who has them, what they are, and what stories are behind them. I have recently gotten into the tattoo thing, and have had two done in the past 4 or 5 months. A big ladybug on my stomach, and the "painting the roses red" scene on my back right shoulderblade.

I've been thinking about getting the "Tattoo of Greater Presence" from the game Planescape: Torment on my shoulderblade for awhile now, but I still have a few doubts (Low pain tolerance, heart problems, it costs money).

I'm exactly the same I really want a tattoo I would even get over my low pain tolerance for it but I know I'm the sort that would get bored of it after a few months. If there was a better way of removing them I would go and get one today.

I have too many ideas, not enough time or money to get them. So far I know I'm getting:

-Play / Pause / Stop / Skip controls from a stereo on my forearm.
-45 RPM adapter (this thing)
-Rosary
-an old timey key (fiancee is getting a lock done. This way we have some kind of matching tattoo that doesn't go so far as getting names. Which is only slightly less stupid than driving a nail into your testicle.)
-Some text in French that holds meaning to me. I haven't quite decided exactly what it would be, but considering the fact that I'm not going to be able to get anything done for some time, it's not exactly something that needs doing immediately.

The painting the roses red has special significance to me because I'm kind of a dreamer. Alice in Wonderland is my special day dream, my fantasy. I often wish I could live in a world of magic and nonsense. I hope to have my back covered in alice scenes one day.

The ladybug was the first tattoo that I got. I did it as a personal goal, to overcome my fear of needles. I have a large freckle on my stomach below my navel and to the left. When I was little, 4 or 5, my dad used to tell me it was a bug. I would freak out and start clawing at my skin and crying. He thought it was the funniest thing ever. So I put a real bug there. Seeing his face when I showed it to him was the funniest thing ever for me. Payback's a bitch, daddy.
But honestly, he's been pretty cool with it. He doesn't exactly 'apporve,' but he says 'You're an adult now, and it's your body. Do what you will." He hasn't made a huge deal out of my recent fascination with body art.

I have an extremely low pain threshold. The ladybug, I endured. The back piece, however, I had to break up into a few sessions. It hurt like HELL. I think it's because I am so thin, the needle was hitting the bone. But here is a tip. Always get a good night's sleep beforehand, and EAT before you have it done. It won't hurt as bad. And ladies, under no circumstances get a tattoo if you are on your period. I tried to do some color fill in when I first started...All she could get done was the red splashes. I was crying my eyes out. It was the worst thing I had EVER felt. I kept telling her I didn't understand why it hurt more this time, and then she asked if I was on my period. I said yes, and she said well, that explains it, and told me to come back next weekend.

Honestly, it's not so bad. I suggest bringing a friend to talk to. After awhile, the pain becomes so monotonous, you can kind of zone it out. I'm very proud of myself for making it through the alice piece. It's quite large for little ol' me. And the lady bug is pretty big too, for my first tattoo.

There are several girls that I graduated with, the 'trendy' girls that are in the tattoo phase just for the hell of it, and they crack me up. This one got some stars across her calf. Not even colored in! Little tiny black outlines of stars. And then she says "Oh, look how brave I was! It hurt so bad!" And they don't even have any significant meaning to her. At least I didn't pussy out on my first tattoo, and I actually got a rather large one. Here are some links to the ladybug, by the way.

They're all shiny because that is when it was still healing. You have to keep some sort of vaseline intensive care, or A&D ointment on it for a week or two as it heals. And then it peels which is really icky and gross, and it itches, and you can't scratch it. You have to be very good about keeping the lotion on it so that it doesn't scab over. If it scabs up, it can screw up your art.

I've been thinking about gettin two small ones on my 18th birthday, a Jolly Roger on my left upper arm and a Viking shield or something on my right. Something that would normally be covered but not a total pain to show to people, something small so that it wouldn't be too painful for too long (but I'm a man! ), that kind of thing.

But I'm not sure I want to change my body permanently like that.

Cuz I'm a wuss when it comes to irreversible change and stuff.

This idea is awesome and here i just wanted a necklace with the lock
and my boyfriend the key. Seeing as how we are not heading anywhere
toward the alter, tatoos are not a good plan. But for you i say 'wonderful'.


I've heard they (and by that i mean i have no clue who, just something on the news)
are making inks that are easier to remove through laser treatments, like in one or two sessions.
Now if they could just make it painless

A good feminine rosary tattoo that I've seen in the past was on the ankle, actually... She had the beads "wrapped" around the ankle, and then the Hail Mary emblem and the cross were done so they were "resting" on her foot. I always liked it. It lended an air of elegance to an otherwise very inelegant girl (she was a Hooters waitress. I was a supervisor at one of these places for one summer.)

And yeah, the thing I don't like about that idea for easier-to-remove ink is that it pretty much guarantees that the tattoo will turn into that shapeless green/grey mess that you see on so many older people much sooner. It just strikes me as being more prone to become discoloured and misshapen.

I have also seen the ankle rosary like you described and they are very cool
I've seen a few that go around the neck, down to the chest, too.

There is also the rosary on the wrist .
One wrapped completely around the wrist

and the another on both hands so together
they make the rosary in a prayer position.

I wish i had pictures, this would make much more sense!

Its worth bumping an old thread, because its been on my mind quite a bit recently.

Ever since this thread popped open and I stumbled across Hecc's lock-and-key idea, I've been mulling over what'd be a good matching tattoo for me and the missus, not wanting to steal someone elses already good idea. And OK, considering we split up for like five months of that time, its not been on my mind constantly. But I've thought of one.

A match (lit or otherwise) and a candle.
So as whenever we're together, we bring light wherever we are.
