i remember playing a ton of kick ass games in the late 80's and early 90's. while some games do get revived in today's video game realm, i dont really think that a lot of these updates are really faithful to the original versions.

my nephew recently shown me a demo of the updated final fantasy VII that is forthcoming for the PS3. the intro scenes looked good, but i could help but notice that some parts of the intro looked like it was borrowed right off the original ps-one version circa 1997.

i remember playing some really good kick ass games on the nes. at the time i hailed these games as being superb. i still own some of these titles.

contra, castlevania, and metal gear were all kick ass games on the nes that have seen life here in the 21st century

..but there is still a ton of old school games that kicked ass that seem to be lost. if you were born in the late 1980's, and grew up in the 1990's, then chances are you probably dont know of such games im referring to.

games like: bad dudes, wrath of the black manta, shadow dancer, altered beast, operation wolf, karnov, kid icarus, star tropics.

some games just need to be remade entirely to make up for the total mess up that they were in their hey-day. back to the future for nes by ljn surfaces to my mind.

splatterhouse was an uber-cool game that is largely responsible for games like resident evil and silent hill, but its largely unknown by todays kids. it needs to be remade.

some games have been brought back, but to me they arent true to the original. the new shinobi has an annoying red ribbon tied to his waist everytime he jumps...i dont recall this at all from my genesis version.

where did double dragon float off to? that was a kick ass franchise that got messed up when they came out with the sacred stones game. id love to see that game brought back with much dignity.

I'm a bit confused. The gist of your post was saying that remakes aren't similar enough to the original games, but you also complain that the FFIIV remake directly lifts from the original?
The Green Knight, SimeSublime the Puffinesque, liker of chips and hunter of gnomes.

i guess i side-stepped a bit there. but the core topic is those games that havent had any remake whatsoever. those games that were released for just one generation of consoles, and havent seen the light of day since.

id really like to see bad dudes again (sob)
