SF- It was a joke, but considering some of the other absurd statements made seriously in this debate I can understand why you thought I meant that seriously.

The earthquakes have nothing to do with anything. Sladicus, pope of the forums and my official archivist, recently found this ancient religious scroll from the gospel of Brian which gives the only true prophecy predicting conditions for the end times:

QUOTE
There shall in that time be rumors of things going astray, erm, and there shall be a great confusion as to where things really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia-work base, that has an attachment. At that time, a friend shall lose his friend's hammer, and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight O'clock.

Ok I've said my peace. But to clarify, and I shouldn't have too, I'm not a commie or rudy gulianni. But JM is an extremist and he is anti-US everything.

I'm not American and I don't agree with American foreign policy. I just so happen to believe that Islam is a shitty religion, not because the US is fighitng it in a way, but because it's just a shitty religion on it's own.

I'm not even talking about 9/11 or the war on Iraq. I agree with John Perkins that the US infiltrates vunerable countries and exploits them. His examples in South America are the best to prove this point.

But any how, I've made my points - JM is a revolutionary and Spoon doesn't like to condemn Islam cause the bible sucks too.

Did you know that just by labeling your opponent you dont get off with a victory? If so the presidential debates would consist of each side calling the other a democrat or a republican after every conflicting point.

I'm going to see you that, and raise you that every religion is shitty and can have radical followers when socio political conditions provoek them. And I'll throw in a nice statement to start some more debate:

In that passage from the bible where it says god struck down two people for failing to sell all their posessions and give all the money to Peter or whoever, I'm going to say that it was either made up to get funds, or that those people were killed by more earthly forces than god.

There is no way to know whether there are more Eathquakes now than in earlier centuries. We just have no way of measuring the past, we weren't spread out enough to record it, and a lot of Earthquakes took place in remote areas that are now occupied. It may seem like there are more Earthquakes now, but in any event your friend would only be comparing now with recent DECADES. Like you know when they say "record-breaking heat" and the most recent really hot day was in 1914 or something. Surely there were actually hotter days in previous centuries, but we werent' sophisticated enough to record them.

Do you think that some of the unrecorded earthquakes could have been communalists?

He's not a friend; he's a professor with a bunch of geology degrees. My other geology professor says the same, and all the geology textbooks and everything do, too. Talk to any geologist. There are ways of measuring how many earthquakes there have been in the past; it has to do with plate tectonics and stuff. The way the plates are moving is causing more major earthquakes now than before because they're scraping each other more now than they were. And there are cycles of lots of major earthquakes, not so many, etc. Something like that. I don't understand all of it but I'd trust someone that's been studying geology his whole life over than someone who just doesn't want the Jehovah's Witnesses to actually have had a fact in their spiel...

Not that this thread should turn into a debate about earthquakes. It was just a silly aside. rolleyes.gif
I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

Agreed about not getting too heavy into Earthquakes, but the theory of plate tectonics is only about 50 years old. Some geologists think there may be evidence that Earthquakes are on the increase, and others don't. The only way to see the evidence of drift and possibly of past Earthquakes is to map seismographically. The actual dating of the past evidence invoplves digging and radioactive dating. The Earth is fricking huge, and all the data is just not in. it won't ever be.

Agreed though that if it were and your geology professor were to be proven right, it would bug me a bit. Believing something is true for the wrong reason is not the same as knowing it, but the JWs wouldn't ever concede that, and yeah that would drive me up the wall. But until we map the entire Earth seimographically and date every past quake site radioactively, I still hold that it just seems like more Earthquakes because there are more people and the property damage is greater because our stuff is worth more.

Getting back to the secondary point, the human population is increasing and people are living longer than in the days when Jesus allegedly predicted all that. So I doubt we're in the "End Times."

Getting back to the main point, I think it is ok to say that some religions are shit. Many are.
