...appears to have been adopted to some degree. By which I mean, it has 3-4 google hits that aren't direct quotes of ZP. They make interesting reading.

O'course, that doesn't mean it's become a "meme" or whatever the correct term is for a "thing people heard and say a bunch." It'll only be a proper part of culture if people use it without being aware they're quoting someone, and preferably without the listener realising either.

I hope it makes such status, as it has a rather delightful ring.

I'm not sure I understand any of that... The best I can decipher is that people are using Zero Punctuation quotes, and are starting to do so without realising. Or that you hope this will be so. I think the Google bit may be related to the 3 or 4 pople who are quoting Yahtzee without realising, or something like that... I'm still unsure and confused... Help?

The guy doesn't make sense, so why do you even try to understand him?

My interpretation is that he thinks that ZP quotes are becoming memes and he hopes that they are.

I believe/think (opinionate) that he means that he typed them into google and only 3 or 4 of what came up weren't direct quotes from Zero Punctuation.

They then go on to say that this doesn't make it a meme, but says it might become a part of culture if people realise they are quoting 'someone' (Yahtzee).
Then yes, he hopes it gets to that level.

Its only one small step from creating memes to being dictator of earth. Yahtzee knows what he is doing.

Noo, the opposite of what Patch said. Something is a meme when people use it without knowing it's a quotation or reference. Like people sometimes say things are "the dog's bollocks" without knowing it's anything to do with Meccano; it's just a Thing You Say.

The original post was supposed to say:

1. It's interesting what appears when you google "Sheer determined retardation"

2. I hope this phrase makes meme status, as I enjoy using it.

A whole thread for that? I can't help feeling a little disappointed...

All of this assumes that Yahtzee came up with the phrase "sheer determined retardation", which he probably didn’t.

I'm pretty sure he invented it -- check out how the Google hits all occur after the Silent Hill review.

Exactly it's a funny enough phrase but I find it hard to believe it’s never been used before now, I've heard people talk about sheer retardedness before.

As in "this thread is sheer retardedness". tongue.gif

In the aformentioned Silent Hill review. It's the protagonist's only reason for remaining in Silent Hill.
