the personality change... that's the real mystery, wouldn't you agree ?
Yeah, it's certainly a puzzler. Personally, I think Vader's personality is an improvement on Anakin's. He definitely whines a lot less.

i just want to be a foot taller with some wicked ass cybernetics, and some sort of death ray cannon attatched to my chest!!!

biggrin.gif Love it!

Esco, was Lucas really contemplating Leonardo DiCaprio at some point? That is scary stuff. I would take Hayden Christensen over him any day!

Joshua Jackson (although the name means nothing to me) sounds pretty good from how you describe him. I'm a bit worried about the Dawson's Creek part though...

Darth Vader's what, a foot taller? Bad enough Hayden Christensen's too short for the part; at least he's not a freakish gnome!

Oh c'mon, civilian. When has HEIGHT ever been an obstacle in Hollywood movies much less in a SCI-FI movie. I mean if Mel Brooks could get away with Don Adams being a two feet shorter than Barbara Feldon, I am sure Lucas could get away with Phillipes height.
]
Simple. Most of Anakins body was destroyed in his Obi-Wan battle all that remained where his head and a few parts of his torso. The Dart Vader body was recreated and made a taller and more menacing. it would also work in.

Anakin can be short. It actually might give him more impetus for his rage. He just has to be not shorter than Natalie Portman

I mean really. Is that so hard a leap of faith?????????

Last I checked, Ryan Phillipe is 5'9". About the same height as Ewan MacGregor. And he looked pretty tall in "I Know what you did last Summer"

Add to the fact that there is a scene in Playing by Heart where he is hugging Angelina Jolie and he is at least a good foot taller than the 5'7 Jolie

Ever see Phillipe at premiers with his wife Reese Witherspoon. The guy practically makes her look like a friggin midget. Reese is 5'2. He ain't 5'6, civ.!!!!

Now that I look, I have found numerous sites declaring that he is 5'9" and even a few that say he's 5'11"! If he's 5'9", I'll concede I was thinking of another guy. I'm sure the guy I'm thinking of I saw on the set of ANTI-TRUST, and I thought he was a prop. Maybe Tim Robbins is just too tall .... anyway, I think rigging a set woth a lot of boxes and ramps would be like something out of SCOTT OF THE SAHARA when they could just as easily hire a taller guy. I don't know what they did in AOTC to mask the fact that Anikin is just an average guy, but I'm guessing nothing.

Anyway, all I wanted to do was to call someone a freakish gnome. I did, and I'm past it now.

I'll reiterate what everyone else has said about the actor not really mattering. I haven't even seen the film, and I can tell you that the role of Anikin did not require any acting. Hayden look the part, or close enough without being 6'7" (this is a big deal, and I don't like the Mel Brooksy notion that he's a small guy in a really big costume; it's not just long legs - most large men, Dave Prowse included, have large torsos to match). However, had TPM not established the character as a cute little nerd about whom Yoda has some secretive misgivings, I also believe that Christaian Bale would have been good. But then, he's a really good actor, right, and would be good in a lot of things.

I also think Daniel Day Lewis could have played Obi-Wan, and done it well. But so what? It's not like Lucas would ever have written something that justified having better actors.

I don't believe that Ryan is a a foot taller than Angelina Jolie, but if he is, then he would have been perfect. David Prowse was also 6'7".

I have seen Reese from a foot away, and I'm not mistaking her for anyone else. She is a friggin midget, but a great actress with some range.

Wrong visually for Obi-Wan. Don't get me wrong he probably could PLAY the part. But really doesn't give the look of Obi-Wan. A little too tense and serious looking as an actor for Obi-Wan. He would not CONTRAST well with Anankin which is a must for the Obi-Wan character. Imean essentially he would be the same character that Liam Neeson's Qui-Jon is. I mean why not just make Liam Neeson Obi-Wan. Probably too old in many respects.

No in my opinion, the Obi-Wan part needed a Erroll Flynn type [without the homosexual undertones}. Someone like Kenneth Branagh who was originally considered when the prequels were considered. I was really excited when I heard this and really thought the prequels were going to be something. To me Kenneth Branagh is the perfect actor to play Obi-Wan in every way. The only problem with Branagh is his age. Heath Ledger would be an alright choice.

Essentialy what you need for Obi-Wan is a younger Kenneth Branagh. As I said before Ewan MacGregor projects too much of a seriousness and lack of emotion in certain roles that made him inadequate for Obi-Wan.

Because it is hard for you too believe that Jolie is that short in the first place. You are thinking too much of Jolies "Tomb Raider" type role and less of her other works. In Tomb Raider it looks like Angelina'a friggin amazon!! {probably due to those high heeled boots she wore most of the time} Check out the hugging seen in Playing by Heart. She's shorter than Ryan Phillipe.

Anakin's height is really minute stuff to be honest. Anakin doesn't have to be 6'0" tall. He just has to be taller than Natalie Portma n and as tall as Obi-Wan. Unless you have OCD, I don't think you 're gonna scream" Hey!!!! Anakin's not 5'9. Vader's 6'7". What the f**k???" I think the more important thing is getting Anakin's characterisation right rather than his appearance. IMO, George Lucas worried too much about getting things visually right. {Ewan MacGregor looks a little like Obi-Wan, Natalie looks a little like Leia, y'know minute stuff like that}

Y'know, civ. I am surprised that Anakin's height is the thing you decided to point out as being a necessary visual of Anakin. To me the thing that I always thought was that Anakin was dark-haired rather than fair-haired. Am I the only person out there that thinks Anakin should be dark-haired and Luke's mother should be blonde instead. Y'know to make it a little less obvious that she is the mother of Leia?

Fully agreed. She is a sweatheart. wub.gif Although I was a little disappointed with Sweet Home Alabama and some of her recent film choices like the Legally Blonde series. She needs to branch out from those "SNL" type movies like Legally Blonde.

Oh for crying out loud! I was talking about how it didn't matter who played the parts, since they weren't about acting, and then I named a great actor. That's it! I wasn't actually trying to CAST him!

Actually, I was just juxtaposing your comment that Phillipe is "a foot taller than jolie" with your recorc that Jolie is 5'7," and noting the coincidence that David Prowse is 6'7." Then I went for a little joke, which apparently didn't work because I don't tend to make jokes like that. But for the record, that wasa joke, and it might have been a good one if I'd made it right. Also for the record, I wasn't thinking of Jolie in TOMB RAIDER since I don't think of Jolie, ever, and I don't think of those movies, not even when I am drunk.

I think the real problem with the prequels was revealed with the releases of THE MUMMY and THE MATRIX, and the coming release of VAN HELSING. The problem is this: STAR WARS has no relevance since there are lots of other movies out there doing the same thing it did and doing it better.

Hey, I just realized: Brendan Fraser ***IS*** Anikin Skywalker! Who would be more perfect than that? And for Obi-Wan, look no further than Bruce Campbell!

Completely, disagree. The problem with the PTs is that they were trying to be too much like thos films. Lucas developed a unique formula in the OTs. If he had stayed true to what he did in those movies they would have been fine.

The whole point of this forum and the point that I hoped is that the PT movies are'nt bad because they could NEVER be made well. But that are bad because they were mad ineptly by Mr. Lucas

No offense, civ. But for some reason your humor falls flat in your posts. Maybe if you put some smile icons when you make these jokes it might come across better biggrin.gif . Y'know like how they do with laugh tracks on TV sitcoms. {uh-oh, now i 've done it!!!!!!! laugh.gif }
