I don't know I've never brought this up before...

But if you have never done so, do yourself a huge favour and visit this website:

http://ter.air0day.com/archives.php

It is called The Editing Room and they specialise in "abridged" movie scripts.

You will find The Phantom Menace along with its evil twin Attack of the Clones among the movies on the site.

I am sure you will enjoy them.

Phantom Menace was decent, but Attack of the Clones was hilarious! I love the part with Sam Jackson repeating the line from Pulp Fiction, I cracked up there. Phantom Menace was ok, but could've been a LOT better, it was really kind of stupid at parts.

Actually, I've read a lot of the other ones, and they really are very stupid. AOTC is really the only good one, SW, ESB, and ROTJ were all kinda stupid as well.

Yeah, Attack of the Clones is the real highlight...

The quality of the parodies on this website vary a bit - some are really excellent and some are really weak. They may have a few different writers doing it.

But I'm glad you guys enjoyed the Attack of the Clones one. smile.gif

Empire strikes back

Good stuff there. thanks for the link, Ave. I'll copy/paste the scripts into new quark docs and read them at my leisure. (And it doesn't show that I'm online for hours- useful for that wonderful but lengthy ROTK Review hyperlinked elsewhere on this forum)

Like I'm fooling anyone. I'm sure everyone here's IT guy is familiar with Chef and friends. laugh.gif

Oh, you read the Return of the King review? That's great. I thought the guy who wrote it obviously had spent a lot of time on it and he was also quite objective too. He understood the difficulties in translating the book to film and I thought he was quite sympathetic. His points were well thought-out and well iterated. It certainly is a very interesting read.

If anyone is wondering what Despondent and I are referring to and would like to have a look for themselves, here is the link:

Regarding the blasters verses the Walkers armor situation. When the Walkers collapsed their armor became damaged and exposed allowing the more delicate parts of the walkers to be hit. I think it is somewhere in that massive Star Wars technical guide-thingey they came out with on CD-Rom a few years back. huh.gif

Agreed. Whenever I watched this in the movie, I thought that it was quite plausible that the walkers shields would have failed after they collapsed.

If the shields are generated by lots of complicated electronics or machinery and these, while inside the main body of the Imperial Walker, fall from a great height at speed, I imagine that they could get broken.

If you lifted a car with a fork-lift and dropped it, I'd bet there'd be a few things that wouldn't work afterwards. And it's perfectly believable that it would be the same for the Imperial Walkers.

However, that said, for the sake of a bit of fun, I didn't mind that part of the parody. I didn't find it particularly funny but with such things, you take what you want from it. I haven't read The Empire Strikes Back one recently but I think there a few good lines in there.

There are a few good lines in all of them, but it's hard to make good parodies of, well, good movies, which SW, ESB, and ROTJ (no arguing here) are, though I'm sure you found the ROTJ script funnier than SW and ESB. I also read parodies of Matrix, Memento, Being John Malkovich, and a couple others, and they weren't funny.

True - there is a real variation on the quality and I actually noticed that they have quite a few different authors, which explains why.

Last night, I looked at a few more and I found that Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was pretty funny, as was U-571.

I'd just suggest that if you're flipping through them and they don't grab your attention straight away, then just skip to another one.

And you're right - it is difficult to parody good movies. I did find the Return of the Jedi one funnier than the others but I'm not going to argue its merits here.
It's still a Star Wars movie (unlike the prequels) and it's a lot more entertaining than a lot of other things I've seen.
