QUOTE (Supes @ Dec 23 2007, 06:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
This does look interesting and I will be keen to see how it turns out. This is clearly a home for many people less than satisfied with the end product, but I still have to question what the expected outcome is.

What is it that you want specifically to achieve? We've seen that George is reticent in changing his views once established - having said that the sheer weight of demand did see the DVD release of the OT in it's original form. Personally I think this was still more a marketing tool than anything else, but hey. in this case the fans got what they wanted.

Are we looking for an apology, the remaking of the films, the making of more films????

Oh, yeah and quick question for Nick. Have you published the final versio of Shimmering Sword? I have the edition pre Revenge of the Sith so am curious if you have managed to add to this yet.

Well... for one, our objective is to empower the fans, and to create a safe environment where their voices can be heard. Call me a dreamer, but I'm still hanging on to the hope that George Lucas is interested in what the fans have to say--even if... well... he has a history of not giving us what we want. Ultimately, I believe that this documentary, more than just a unique look at the Star Wars fan culture and phenomenon, will act as a mediator between Lucasfilm and the fans, and, hopefully, help promote better, more constructive dialogue. Who knows? Maybe we'll get the OOT out of it?

You know, there's been a concern floating around that this film might be construed as an unstructured effort by whining fan boys to get George's attention, and nothing could be farther from the truth. Even if we have an open call for submissions, we still have a meticulously structured narrative that we plan to adhere to, and our main objective is to make the fans' voices come across as legitimate, and their concerns valid. Similarly, I really hope that George will want to talk to us, because I'm dying to ask him why he thinks that the Special Editions are an improvement on the originals, why he refuses to give the fans the OOT when he knows that it's what they want, and why Episode V is his least favorite episode (among other things). In my opinion, it's the numerous controversies and the strange dynamic between us, the fans, and George Lucas that makes the SW culture stand out from other fan bases. SW fans love to argue about SW and George Lucas, and that was the idea behind the documentary. Right now, the only thing we can do is vent our frustrations on forums like this one, and send petitions to Lucasfilm without much hope of ever getting heard. That's precisely why we chose a slightly provocative (yet tongue-in-cheek) title. It's meant to be a 'wake-up call' for George Lucas, and a call to action for the fans--all in good spirit, of course. The more high profile this film becomes, the more chances we'll have to get a reaction from him. That's why you guys need to participate, encourage your friends to participate, post news stories about the film and mention it in forums like this one. If the fans actively support this project (and we're getting a lot of positive signs that they're in favor of it), George Lucas might just have to pay attention to us and to what we have to say. And wouldn't that be a lot of fun?

I just wrapped up a two hour interview for the movie! It was really great meeting with Kerry (the interviewer) and learning more about the project! I can't wait to see the final result!

Unfortunately not. From what I gather they are going to be in the interviewing stage for quite a while then it will all the spliced together to make the documentary when they're done. Maybe I could request a copy of the entire interview to transcribe. But that may take some time. smile.gif

Cool.

I hope you weren't bamboozled into giving an interview for the Colbert Report. LOL

We talked about a lot of stuff. Mostly my feelings on the prequels and the fans' reaction to them.

That last post was me. To the best of my knowledge Jen has not been interviewed. YET!

That's too bad. I had the impression he'd interviewed Jen as well.

I do not think I would be a useful addition to said documentary. I saw "The Empire Strikes Back" in its entirety for the first time in 2002... tongue.gif

Yeah, but you made it through the scene where Han cuts open the taun taun this time! Babysteps.

Hmmm. 2002. That's the same year we started going out. Coincidence?

What was the setting for your interview. Did you have SW posters and figures in the background?
