You know what? Life just seems a lot better when you look at the big picture. The world's never changed. Ever. Oh, sure, we can have advanced civilizations, but I mean on how good or bad the world is. We've always had countries invade other, smaller countries only for property value. And the fact that the most powerful country is the most popular one to hate is true too. Take a look at history 1000-1500s, and you'll hate Europe's guts. We've always had slavery and wars for property and general stupidity always. The world hasn't gotten any worse, and it hasn't gotten any better. It's stayed exactly the same. Once you realize that, you find people complaining about the state of the world or the suckiness of countries just funny.

Let's look at what's going on in Darfur. The government is just plain insane, and everyone knows what's going on, but nobody wants to do shit about it. We send humanitarian aid all the time, but they either get killed or can't help the problem good enough.

Now say that a big ol' country (USA) sent a bunch of troops to take down the government, because peace talks aren't gonna do shit. Not saying they never work, they just don't work with these people. Unlike what's going on in the Middle east, those being attacked aren't fighting back, so it's just plain Genocide. Se we send troops into there- wait. We just came from a war. Damn. Because if we go there, guess what? Everybody will think we're egotistical assholes who want to police the world. Okay. Alternative approach. Let's ask other countries for help. But they won't do it. Why? Because they have the same attitude we do about Darfur. It sucks, but we don't want to get our hands messy.

Now, I'm not saying public opinion is keeping us from doing anything. No, I'm sick of how our government pushes it under the rug, too. It's just that if we did do something, everyone would have that attitude about America.

Sorry I wasn't funny, it's just I can't be. I tried to be sarcastic before. Seven people died, it sucked so much.

...See? That wasn't funny at all, was it?

But there ain't no whales so we tell tall tales
And sing a whaling tune

I hate America because it makes every non-American think I'm an egotistical asshole who drinks PBR.

... I don't drink PBR.

Pabst Blue Ribbon.

I hate America because the beer is so awful here. Don't they know how to make a proper German Lager? Stupid American breweries making me pay extra for imported beer because I can't stand the local swill. Don't Americans realize that beer is the greatest alcoholic beverage that there is; and that no matter how many distilleries exist in the bourbon region of Kentucky, Americans are only capable of making crap beer like PBR, which is so bad it really needs to be in its own category. No, it doesn't. All American beer is crap.

Nope, now I'm confused.

Wasn't Despondent arguing the sarcastic America-hating side?

It's hate from within. Dunno where the loss of context comes in.

Slade, I was just responding to mireaux's post where he thinks Mexico should give us the Baja strip so that the map wouldn't look as funny. I wasn't actually suggesting we go find Doc Brown and make it so - I shudder to think of that Delorian being in the hands of the U.S. government... tongue.gif

damn! you hit the nail on the head...that's something i've always wondered about my whole life.... what if someone actually invented a time machine?..would the feds try to seize it? of course, how could the feds ever figure it out? if some creative genius actually now has a time machine and is consistenly pacing back and forth across the time continium changing the course of events around to their favor..who is to actually notice anything being changed besides the person changing the events?

what if the feds have already pioneered time travel technology and are ambitiously employing the technology against mankind??., this could of course explain the abrupt hike in taxes, fuel expenses and cost of living weve all seen rise in recent years, and may even explain how Bush got re-elected into office.

damn the feds,..those bastards.,.......... and i want every damn cent of my tax return back too!!

There's sarcasm in there. As if I really consider Beer the best beverage, or that I really give a crap about what the rest of the world thinks of America's tastes.

This thread was dying. Maybe there's not so much to hate about America after all.
