Kudos to the devs though, they hit a broad untapped market. Can't fault that.

Good point, wish I'd thought of that! So what's next? a DJ turntable device?

On a side note regarding products, toys, and the penchant to play, I was pleased to see a children's Stand-Up percussion kit (first act possibly) recently. The cocktail drum lives on.

Funny you should say that. I saw both that and what was basically Guitar Hero when I was in Japan in 2000.

Yeah the Japanese market has a lot of quirky peripherals but they seem scared to market them overseas, scared of losing money. This is what confuses me. The market seems so insular at times, how does innovation thrive? It's always struck me that the western and european developers seem more willing to produce internationally and take that risk.

Don't worry Despondent, kids are still learning actual music these days. I give the occasional percussion lesson, my dad teaches full-time. As much of a fun fad as these silly music games are, I don't think it will be a threat to the actual development of real musicians. No, the educational system is the threat there. Can't believe the budget cuts that are pushing through these days. Who knows, maybe one day, when music and art have been totally cut from all schools, video games will be the best way to start to learn how to play an instrument... pinch.gif
I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

My fingers have been crippled by trying to complete Through The Fire and The Flames on Hard.

Just got it on the PC, completed it in easy, now for meejum difficulty.

My problem is that there are few songs that are good so I might give up on this pretty soon.

Having seen my little brother playing it (and its positivly scary how good at it he is on Medium), I have to conclude that Yahtzee was right, the songs are the ghey, and the graphics have somehow landed in Uncanny Valley.

Battle Mode does look quite amusing, though.

Battle Mode is the worst part about the game. Yes, worse than the pathetic bonus set list (and most of the main tracks).

I don't know why you guys are complaining about the songs, it's a pretty well rounded list. Only thing missing is Chuck Berry.

Because they SUCK diarrhea out of a roadkill skunk's arse. Make no mistake about it.
(Except for The Who, Santana, Foghat, Black Sabbath, etc.)

Dunno why they picked 3s and 7s by QotSA. It's good, but not the best on teh Era Vulgarid CD. And definitely not legenedary.

Yeah, the title Legends of Rock is way too misleading. There's only one legend of rock in the game I can think of. Call me a snobby bastard, but I don't consider the guitarist of rage against the machine a rock legend.

All I know is, I prefer the Guitar Hero 3 song list to the list in Guitar Hero 2.

Well like it or not, Tom Morello did some pretty amazing things with the guitar, which is why people would classify him as being a "legend". I think it's best to take the term lightly in this case, especially when one considers that we're living in an age where the meaning of the word "brilliant" has essentially been changed to "pretty much anything that impresses someone even remotely".
That said, however, has it not dawned on anyone here that the subtitle "Legends Of Rock" refers more to the fact that the game has a storyline wherein your shitty garage band quite literally become "Legends" of "Rock" by the game's end? I just assumed that it had more to do with that than their lousy song selection.

Either way it's still better than "Rocks The 80's", so I'm satisfied with it.
