I have formed a tour group on guitarhero.com for us to go out and dominate the world. Also, if anyone can give me their Xbox Live tag without this turning into a bitchathon (you know who you are), be my guest.

i dunno, but i think that GH3 is overrated.

its immense popularity seems to stem from the fact it allows anyone to pick up this plastic guitar looking peripheral and live out their rock and roll dreams that will never really happen, because those peeps that are really good playing guitar arent playing GH3,..they are out in the clubs every weekend waiting for the right moment to strike them real fame.

there really isnt any depth to this game. it copies basically the same premise as DDR, except with your fingers and not your feet. but since only your fingers get the workout, and not your total body with DDR, it makes GH3 look that much more shallow.

"oh..here comes the fast moving scrolling notes,.i better get my fingers ready to press and mash every button on sync so i can get a high score..whoop tee friggin..doooo!"

..."but wait,.this game is playing my fav song by black sabbath..ohhh baby..this game rawks my sawks..i have to get this game,.and the two games that came before it..and i also have to shell out some clams to get the nicest wireless guitar for this game."

idiots

if you really have a deep desire for music,.save up your money..take some guitar lessons and practice all you can, and get a good guitar and just start playing everywhere you can. cause if youre really good..someone will take notice..and once the right people take notice of your true skills,.then you will achieve real stardom.

and who knows..maybe someday youll be on the cover of the next guitar hero game.

I play the guitar, as well as multiple other instruments - that doesn't mean I can't have fun playing a bit of Guitar Hero from time to time.

That said, I really think Guitar Hero 3 could have done much better. They don't have the best songs, and it's exactly the same as the first couple games, except not even as silly-fun. "Star Power" isn't very cool anymore. The guitar noise just gets put into overdrive and the camera closes up on your player, instead of your player doing cool things like playing the guitar with their genitals and stuff.

Rock Band didn't even just one-up them, but like, fifty-upped them.

Yeah, I heard that a couple of times. It's good to hear, because I was considering getting a copy rather than replacing my screwy copy of Guitar Hero 2, which no longer plays one particular section of songs and is liable to self destruct if you try to scroll through those songs or scroll into the bonus songs.

This is derailing the discussion a bit, but has anybody tried Rock Band? It's another alternative I was considering. Do you actually need to get four people together every time you play?

I've played!!!!!!

It's so freaking cool!

And no, you can play by yourself. It's just fun to have more people. But you have like a one-person career mode, too.

But yeah - it has better songs (in my opinion, anyway - one of them's a Bowie song!), more instruments (I love the drums), and it's more fun to watch. And they're going to have online downloadable content and battles and stuff, too. Nobody I know that's played Rock Band prefers Guitar Hero.

You're making me use Ctrl-Alt-Del strips to prove a point. I hope you're happy.

Also, I've not tried GH3 yet, and only tried a song or two on GH2, but the first game got everything spot on first time round, and there's only one song on the third game I'd even look at. And its Slipknot, so I'd understand why people would say Fuck That Noise.

Of course it's going to be easier than playing an actual guitar. Do you actually think they'd be able to move any units if the fucking game came with a life-sized, detailed replica of an actual guitar that had to be played like the actual instrument? Of course not. The creators had a concept, and obviously wanted to make that concept accessible to as many people as they could. It wouldn't make sense to do it otherwise.
And besides, who fucking cares? You're debating the merits of a fucking toy as opposed to playing a real instrument, and your argument is the same as every other pretentious guitar-toting twat who thinks they're better than someone just because they play the guitar, and not a video game. I don't think anyone is playing a video game and actually living out any sort of "rock and roll dreams". They're playing a video game because it happens to be an exceptionally fun, and addictive video game.

Yeah, get the fuck over yourself, OP. It's not our fault you can't play, and everybody recognizes there's a big difference between playing a rhythm coordination game and, you know, forming a 3+ piece rock band and spending years of your life trying to make it big in the music industry.

GH3 is fun, but 2 had a way better set list. GH sold out, so now there are a lot more original songs, but they're all the shitty generic bands from 2006 that suck recording industry cock. I'm not in much of a position to suggest any new songs that are both good and rock, but they could have done way better. With a subtitle of "Legends of Rock," I don't expect there to be such shit as Pearl Jam (as an encore, no less!) and generic crappiness like Disturbed, or that tool guitar player from Rage Against the Machine. On the plus side, though, hammer-ons and pull-offs are kinder.

And Chyld, if the only song you actually want to play is by Slipknot, you need to broaden your musical horizons to something beyond generic heavy nu-metal bands. tongue.gif

Re: Rock Band: I played the demo a bunch of times at BestBuy, it's fantastically amazing. The only problem is the incredible price tag on their cheap plastic electronics.

Right, the Rock Band guitar breaks so fast - they've actually already said they're going to manufacture better ones. However, I don't know if they're making it a recall or just making better ones. GH controllers will work instead, depending on which console you have, I think.

Guitar Hero's alright, but I liked Guitar Freaks a lot better (maybe because I played it / it came out first). I'm dying to try Rock Band, though! It sounds like a great party game!

my hall has become obsessed with GH in recent times, and my room is right outside of the lounge with the TV, and all I can say is that I am really glad they came out with GH3 because it means now that I will be hearing *different* songs over and over again! (and there's some Santana in there. whoo!) I've played the game once or twice and I can see how it could get pretty addictive. but I suppose I am one of those annoying pretentious types who would, given the time, rather practice real guitar than play guitar hero.

And so I have, I first discovered music via generic heavy nu-metal bands. I'm comfortable knowing this, I've grown since then. And ~I'll finish my point when I'[m not a-phoning biggrin.gif

I've played the game once or twice, and I can see how it's amusing for an hour or so, but have no idea why people are addicted to it. But I suppose I am one of those annoying pretentious types who would, given the time, rather play a game with gripping story and characters tongue.gif

I should point out that I'm not saying Guitar Hero is necessarily bad (though it may be), just that I lack the ability to appreciate it.
