CD prices go up for a number of reasons. Lacking sales, inflation, production costs, things along those lines. If a CD is older, do you really think it's going to sell all that well? The stores pretty much have to charge more for older releases in order to actually turn a profit. CD prices may not be cheap, but there are plenty of ways of getting CDs for less than the major stores want.

of course they are lacking in sales if they are charging what they do for some of them, go and buy 3 or 4 CDs you are looking at 50-60 bucks easy, i understand your point about the older stuff totally, another thing to add is they digitally remaster some of these older CDs to try and bone you some more, its crazy i am just happy i have a big collection and dont really need to go out and spend $$$
