My comment was directed at CJ for talking about his heartfelt glee when he sees people in rainfall lighting up. I'm quite convinced (without any sort of disapproval) that he is often drunk when he posts in the FR forums. That is why I tried paralleling smoking and drinking as both being harmful habits when done excessively.
See I don't mind if someone drinks around unless they become violent or they try to become "my bessshtesht friend". When I smoked, I was careful never to intrude anyone's personal space. Now that I don't smoke but still have to write hundreds of pages for university assignments, I constantly feel irritated. Please bear with me.

(@Barend: The word you're looking for in this case would be "kibaszott" instead of "basznak". "Kibaszott kurafi" (archaic word, without a v, "fi" is a suffix that means son) = "F$Łßing son of a whore". Great name for a protagonist. )

I put it down to having an addictive personality (and therefore don't need to take up something both addictive AND harmful), but also because I see myself as independent, and all the aforementioned limit an individuals independence, in a manner.

And indeed you are right - most smokers "do not give a shit". It bugs the balls off me for some ignorant lighting up around non-smokers. If you want to smoke, go somewhere where you WON'T harm the rest of us. And at least have the decency to pick up your butts. People who litter are seen as filthy assholes, but smokers can chuck as many butts as they want on the ground and never hear a word about it.

First of all, lighten up a little, my man. It's a discussion, not a debate on whose mother is going to be murdered.

How is it being self-righteous? Smoking has no good points, apart from a drug-influenced 'enjoyment' (and detecting laser beams!). I can choose to look down on smoking, the same way I can look down on drunken-driving, or those who damage the environment.
I don't believe smokers are 'out to get us', but they are guilty of inflicting unwanted and harmful substances on others without caring. Ignorance, in my opinion. Not all do it, but a lot of people do. It's not a 'ridiculous prejudice' as you described it. I don't smoke, and therefore don't wish to end up with watery eyes, a cough, along with the side-effects of second hand smoke.

And why should I get over myself? You're not going to get over smoking because I told you to on a forum! Bro, I'm entitled to my opinions. And I'm entitled to look down on smokers if so I wish - just as you can look down on me for doing so. My mother actually smoked (she gave them up qround 8 years ago though, said it was the best thing she ever did), but I would still view her as foolish for smoking.
My point to smokers would be to do it away from the rest of us.

I'm not a smoker either, but I don't go around pretending I'm better than smokers, or telling them that they are such a way that they really aren't. They have a vice that I don't have. Just like I'm sure I have vices that other people don't have (such as my long-time addiction to sunflower seeds, shell and all, that I only recently got over ). I think smoking is a poor choice due to its effects - but then, ceramics isn't exactly a healthy profession either, due to the inhalation of silica, the absorption of various heavy metals into my bloodstream, the smoke, etc. It's also not so good for the environment. Yet that's my major, and what I've chosen to do for a living, because I love it. I'm no better than anyone who smokes, and non-ceramicists are no better than I.

Nae worries on the old comments, I enjoy a bit of banter, and if someone was at least amused reading our posts, then job well done. On-topic: I had to hold a 45-minute presentation about Bushido's history and culture yesterday that had made me constantly shit my pants. I now relapsed into this nasty habit after 2 weeks. This didn't last long. But fuck it, I enjoy a good lungbuster.
And yes, I personally take great care not to invade any non-smokers' personal space when I light up. Except when they come down to the university's SMOKING LOUNGE to schmooze around with the smokers. Then I can't possibly give a damn about them, since that's kind of our last fortress.
