QUOTE (Dan_N_GameZ @ Nov 16 2007, 01:24 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
All my girlfriends have told me that they liked they way I smoked. But then again, they all smoked at least at some point. So, it probably applies only to girls that have smoked.

Well ding ding ding. Ask a woman that doesn't smoke about that. She'll either laugh in your face or just shake her head sadly and walk away. It's not an attractive habit to those that don't subscribe to it.
I mean, I'm just saying I've never met someone who was attracted to nicotine stained fingers and teeth, the constant odour of stale tobacco, and emphysema. Really, the fact that I'm engaged to someone who is gradually being turned off of smoking completely is a god-damned miracle, because she's well aware that I have no intention of quitting anytime soon.

What I don't understand, is how smokers know how rotten the habit and its effects are, and yet continue to do it... as well as being under the control of a drug. Isn't it somewhat humiliating to themselves?

I have to say, I love the smoking ban here in Ireland - it's comical to watch smokers huddling outside in the rain, hail and snow trying to light their cigarettes! Shows it for the anti-social habit that it truly is.

I love it, smokers are considered satan's cocksuckers, even casual smokers. What I don't understand is why people who express this kind of view don't usually extend it to, say, those who drink alcohol. Such double standards can tick me off. Drinking alcohol is also a rotten habit, and it also scrambles your head, something that cigarettes don't do. Oh, a glass of wine a day can help prevent heart problems, whereas smoking only kills you? Guess what, a ciggie or two a day can prevent certain stomach diseases.

I'm reminded of that episode in South Park when their parents try to teach the kids tolerance (basically "[every fucked up habit is all right and we should feel sympathetic but we shoot smokers on sight]").

(By the way, I revoked my membership to Club Cool by joining the non-smoking bandwagon, so don't think for a moment I'm just trying to make excuses.)

David, I don't exclude heavy drinkers. If someone drinks as often as a chain smoker smokes a cigarette, I think that's pretty messed up, too. Anything in excess is bad for a person. It just so happens that "excess" is a heck of a lot smaller when it comes to cigarettes (what I mean is, the amount of cigs it takes for smoking to be unhealthy is tiny compared to say, exercise or something, and even small when compared to drinking). But that's not to say I'm going to get all uppity and rude to any of them - drinkers, smokers, uber-exercisers... (Unless, of course, their habits start infringing on my rights or becoming dangerous to people I care about. Damn that woman who's attached herself to my treadmill!)

Fair enough, the fact you had to call it a "smart-assed little comment" shows that you do, in fact, give a shit. It's a fairly light-hearted discussion, don't get so riled up. I am just genuinely at a loss as to why people do it. And I do extend it to alcohol-consumption too.

But now we've something to talk about, why not kick the old drug-a-rooney? Be your own person instead of a slave to an inanimate substance? It's like letting a chair dictate your life! biggrin.gif

A chair? unsure.gif

This issue confuses me because I expect hardcore Republicans (Despondent?) to come down firmly against smoking, because it's a personal liberty (and not a particularly great one) that ultimately harms the nation as a whole because it makes people unhealthy and removes them from the workforce before their prime. And while I can understand that you'll go crazy trying to worry about every little thing in your life that will do you harm, there's no reason to seek it out or stay in harm's way.

How does thinking that was a smart-assed comment indicate that I "do, in fact, give a shit"? And how am I "riled up"? I responded, and pointed out that you answered your own question while simultaneously cancelling out your other comment.

What part of "most of us don't give a shit" didn't you pick up on? I like to smoke. I told my fiancee I'll quit by her 25th birthday, for her sake, and that's three years off. In the meantime, I have absolutely no desire to quit, and am hoping that by then, she forgets that I agreed to that to begin with.

Hehheh, good luck with that. Women don't forget such things easily. tongue.gif Especially if she succeeds in quitting herself, she'll start bugging you about it in about two years. happy.gif

David, I don't exclude heavy drinkers.

My comment was directed at CJ for talking about his heartfelt glee when he sees people in rainfall lighting up. I'm quite convinced (without any sort of disapproval) that he is often drunk when he posts in the FR forums. That is why I tried paralleling smoking and drinking as both being harmful habits when done excessively.
See I don't mind if someone drinks around unless they become violent or they try to become "my bessshtesht friend". When I smoked, I was careful never to intrude anyone's personal space. Now that I don't smoke but still have to write hundreds of pages for university assignments, I constantly feel irritated. Please bear with me.

(@Barend: The word you're looking for in this case would be "kibaszott" instead of "basznak". "Kibaszott kurafi" (archaic word, without a v, "fi" is a suffix that means son) = "F$Łßing son of a whore". Great name for a protagonist. thumbsup.gif)

Menthol cigarettes are delicious. They're what caused me to start smoking two years ago. Alongside being a long time pothead.

I gave up a year ago, mainly because I had no money at the time. Apart from the rare puff, never looked back.

Same thing happened two years ago. Normally I'm very bad about things that are addictive, but I can drop into and out of smoking like a fish. That smokes.

But yeah, smokings a filthy habit, but I respect that some people can't help it.

A male who likes menthol ciggies. Wow. You do know that it's supposed to make you impotent, apart from giving you lung cancer? wink.gif

I could probably resist the urge better if people around me didn't keep heating up my brainwater to a boil all the time. Sometimes I fantasize about getting stranded on an uninhabited island Tom Hanks-style (only with good-looking women who are extremely good at survival). No one would bug me, my greatest worry would be not to get badly sunburnt. That'd be a cold turkey smoker's paradise.

I have two male friends that smoke menthols, I don't think it's that uncommon. I buy the odd pack during the summer. And there's one brand of menthols that I used to buy when I was trying to quit for money's sake. They were by far the most disgusting cigarette I've ever had in my life. Usually put me off the habit for a few months at a time.

Exactly, that's why I was surprised to hear that a guy likes them. Me and all of my male friends feel the same regarding any kind of menthol cigarettes (ie. foul stuff).

I've heard that you can really taste the tar and rat poison in menthol
on the other hand i've also heard that it has a smoother taste
Whatever that means

But in my opinion the harsher taste wouldn't make sense
especially if supposably mostly females like it

All i know is it made me cough the first time i tried a cigarette.
Nothing smooth or comforting about it.

Though i must say i could be very biased in this disscussion
When i see my father smoke it doesn't really bother me too much
Although i do say "they'll kill you" in a singing voice
he laughs it off says "i know" and goes right back to whatever he was doing.

When i saw a picture of my singer-songwriting idol Richard Ashcroft
with a cig in his mouth i actually thought "cool, he looks good."
Though it could've been the angle of the shot or the fact that
i love him . . . . doesn't really matter. Its not fair....
I never would have given that pic a second look if not for this thread

But the fact remains i can't say cool and give my dad and Sir Rich a pass
whilst casting everyother smoker in to heck.
You've caused quite a debate z e w b
and now im so confused wacko.gif
