In my country there are different views upon smoking. Smokers aren't really ostracized, since they're in majority.

And what country would that be?

I don't think most non-smokers feel they are superior to smokers; I just personally don't like having to dryclean all of my jackets every time I go out, or tasting smoke on someone's mouth. There are worse things to have to put up with, of course, but as it happens I have never remained involved for long with someone who smoked. The smoking was never the reason, but it's probably made it less likely for me to start anything that might have turned out to be longterm.

My data suggests 26%. High, yes, but far from the majority. I would be very surprised if there was a country where smokers were the majority.

the question i have for you is: why exactly did you take up smoking?

if you did so on your own merits, because it was something you solely wanted to do..then i respect your decision.

if you did so, because you fell under peer pressure, then i dont respect you.

it seems that too many adopt practices to try to remain cool to their friends and colleagues,.usually under the pretenses of peer pressure. underage drinking, getting a tattoo, tongue ring, or other lewd piercing, taking up smoking drugs, etc etc...

do what you want,.but dont let it ever be the result of you being forced to do it to stay in the "in" crowd.

screw the "in" crowd,..get different friends, cause they never really were friends.

Well I was thinking about the capitol (yes I know I forgot to mention that), which is the only place that counts for something in my point of view. In the country most people prefer getting shit-faced instead of smoking. They get buzzed in the morning and turn ploughing and woodcutting into extreme sports. Actually, this can be pretty amusing to watch. (From a good distance.)

I've quit smoking, after three years, and I feel great, I can run much faster, I don't tire as easily, and, surprisingly, I'm not agonising over it SO FUCK YOU ALL GOD DAMMIT!!1!1!!ELEVEN!!

Ahem...

Anyways, smoking indeed calms, and makes you not give a shit about anything, really, but not to the same extent of pot, I think, since I've never tried pot. And also adds like 10,000 cool points. If you're a rocker, and you smoke, the effect is doubled. And it's a proven fact that women like it when their boyfriends smoke, they find it quite sexy.

But then again, try running 30 feet. You feel like if you ran another 10 feet, you're going to fucking die. Not to mention that if there are non-smokers around you, they'll say you stink. But, you won't care, since you'll be smoking...

Smoking is a blessing and curse... So is quitting smoking; in the words of Bill Hicks: "I've quit smoking. Now, every cigarette looks to me as if it was made by God, rolled by Jesus, and sealed and moistened shut by Claudia Schiffer's pussy."

Where the fuck did you hear that? I'm willing to bet that it was a study performed by the good Dr. Joseph Camel.
I've never run into this. In fact, most of the women I dated tried to get me to quit smoking from the start of the relationship until the end. Even my fiancee, who also smokes, has been trying to convince me that we should quit.

All my girlfriends have told me that they liked they way I smoked. But then again, they all smoked at least at some point. So, it probably applies only to girls that have smoked.

Aaaaand, Dan lives in Romania, which is located right next to us. My theory still stands.

@Bond: Yes, why?
@Barend: "basznak" (this would be the 3rd person plural form, present tense, nominative case); you got the other one right.
