I've skimmed your first two pages here, and I see a surprising number of people describing the saber fights as brief reprieves in the stupidity of the PT. But damn, guys, those scenes are the PINNACLE of stupidity in the prequels. They're flashy, unrealistic, passionless... fucking stupid, is what they are.

Honestly, they bore the shit out of me. They're unengaging and poorly displayed and there is no tension in them and because I don't care about anyone involved in them (due to the bad character development), these problems are magnified.

But the lightsaber fight in Episode I was the only thing that was passable enough to watch. Although if you see it a second time, it is an absolute bore.

They are fucking stupid, that's true. But everything else in the prequels is so much worse that by comparison, these come out looking a lot better than they really are.

And just because someone took their finger off the fast forward button when it got to the lightsaber fight doesn't mean they liked it. I guess they just wanted to get something out of the movie because there was nothing else.

I personally think the fights in the OT far surpass the PT because of the sheer emotion and grit they generate (I like the ROTJ duel just a bit more than the ESB duel). Hell, even the ANH duel had more emotion in it than the 2 prequel fights. But the reason that they are the best parts of their respective movies is that at least they are choreographed well and you can appreciate all the stuff going on. You can enjoy it not for emotion but for the craft of the duel. That, plus Duel of the Fates is awesome music.

Well to say that they are the highlights of TPM is not necessarily saying that they are good. wink.gif

Personally I find the saber duel to be the highlight. Not necessarily for the fight themselves, but I think the scene were Obi-Wan gets caught and is forced to watch Qui Gonn is probably the only decent scene in the movie. The duels themselves are fairly ridiculous, however, the fast paced action and flashing pretty colors perks you up after the snoozefest that is the rest of the movie.

The Yoda scene in AOTC multiplies stupidity by approximately 4,000 and still doesn't manage to wake you up for AOTC is so mind-numbingly boring that only smelling salts can be used to wake you up by around the 2:20 mark when the duel occurs.

I love in AOTC, when the jedi are fighting the droid army... it's so funny.
they're swinging slowly with both hands like it's a fucking claymore or something... big news *eggheads! light sabres being made of light and all would not weigh annything in the blade department, therefore would be the easiest weapon in the galaxy to weild, Just watch that blade though, it's hot!

(*eggheads, as in the people who worked on the film)
that's wwhat happens when fights are organised in a film by people who've never thrown even a punch in their life!!!

si in short, the sabre fights are one of the worst aspects actually, THEY SUCK!!!

The worst aspects of the prequels? Now that is a challenge to think about.

With so much awful crap in there, I would be hard pressed to think of even a 10 worst aspects list for each of the prequels.

I wonder if anyone out there could pick maybe THE worst aspect for each movie?

That would really be a brain teaser. There's too much stuff to choose from. For Episode II, I would probably be choosing between Threepio's comedy hour and Anakin the Jerk.... now let's see....

Threepio's comedy hour was one of the most irritating twenty minutes of film I've ever seen and when he becomes Gumby and swings around on the machinery like a monkey, it was very hard to bear.

However, that said - it did provide me with one of the funniest memories I had in my movie going experience. I saw Episode II with my brothers at the cinema and when Threepio's comedy hour came on, some dickhead in front of us laughed. Yes, LAUGHED. The freakin' retard thought that it was funny. And without thinking, I stood up and leaned over the seats in front of me, trying to work out who the hell it was... you know, "Who did that?"

And then I turned around and saw that my brothers were doing the exact same thing. Sadly the cinema was too dark and we never caught the man responsible.

But ANAKIN THE JERK.... the prequels for the most part are almost entirely about this guy's life story. And they make him into this prat? This is Luke's father we are talking about before he turned to evil. And when he does turn to evil, he is Darth Vader. Now Darth Vader was a bad fellow but I always had a level of respect for how good he was at his job. Vader was not a wanker. Anakin in Episode II WAS.

So this is my nomination - the worst aspect of Episode II was ANAKIN THE JERK.

And the worst aspect of Episode I - Jar Jar Binks.

Had he not been there, would the film have been watchable? No, it wouldn't but it wouldn't have been quite as painful as it was.

(and that giant fish business was pretty close as well)

Okay, would anyone else like to try to select a single worst moment?

For me the most unforgivable thing of the prequel was the Yoda kung fu moment. Painful and embarassing to watch.

For Episode I

The Eopie 'flatulance" scene. I mean really!!! When did public flatulence become the staple of great sci-fi epics.

What's next? Obi-wan gonna piss all over Anakin after he defeats him in Ep. III. And say something like "you need to cool off a little my young Padawan"

Hmmm.... I'd forgotten the public flatulance scene. And Kung Fu Yoda..... I may need to re-think. Is Kung Fu Yoda worse than Anakin the Jerk and Threepio's comedy hour?

I'm going to need some time to think on that one.

LOL!!! That would indeed be a fitting end to the whiny brat.

As for the saber fights, the ONLY time the audience cheered during EP I was when Obi-Wan and Maul fought. But in retrospect, it was probably mostly out of relief not having to watch JarJar on the battlefield or Anakin yippeeing his way to the federation ship.

I think I laughed pretty hard at one of the grinning arena creatures of death. I love the fact that folks remember so many appalling details, but for me the prequels are kind of forgettable.

the funny thing about that is that Ewan McGregor would probably agree to do it-with full frontal. He loves any opportunity to show his piece.

yeah, add that scene to my version of Yoda and Dorku, and we got superior script.

the fighting is so bullshit bad, it's beyond unwatchable, I feel dumber for having seen it!!!

but No.1 worst moment of Ep1, is the fact that they took an underwater vestle "through the planets core" ???? WTF ????
that was the breaking point for me...

i know it's Science Fiction, but that was pure Science Fucktion!

My number one worst moments:

TPM - The Acting
ATOC - The Acting

Not specific scenes I know, but I found it particularly insulting to be subjected to such bad performances from people who can quite frankly perform with the best. I was insulted by Lucas' lack of consideration for me as a viewer that he felt he did not need to pay attention to this aspect of his film.
Luminous beings are we... not this crude matter.
