How much better would the prequels have been... if Maul had LIVED?

Maul as the main antagonist for 3 movies alongside Palpatine would have been awesome. They could have built his character so much over the course of the prequels, he could have gone down in Star Wars history as one of the baddest villians next to Vader. And Lucas could have still included Dooku in the story as a renegade Jedi trying to lead the Seperatists into war. What a waste of a potentially great character Maul was.

Think how much more powerful Qui Gonn's death would have been. Suppose Maul and Obi still had the one on one saber fight, and Maul still pushed Obi into the reactor core...but instead of trying to finish him off, he felt some kind of tremble in the Force and was compelled to return to Sidious.

I imagine him looking down at Obi and saying "Fate will bring us together again.....Jedi." and runs off. aww man that would have been such an awesome buildup for Episode II!!!

At the very least there would not have been the need to introduce all these extraneous characters. Dooku & Grevious would not be required for a start and we may have then been able to see a bit of character development.

I agree. Instead of it being General Grievance that he chases in the third movie, he could be finally settling the score with Maul. Damn it, Lucas!!!

Maul was definitely a character that needed more fleshing!!

I'd sacrifice more fleshing of Maul if I could get more character development of the primary characters in the trade off.
