QUOTE (Professor Saucy @ Oct 18 2007, 04:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just finished the original Half Life last night and any fun parts were instantly wiped from my memory by that fucking terrible final battle.

I was almost ALMOST ready to admit that I might have judged it too harshly, because I had fun with portions of Surface Tension and, despite what every idiotic fanboy thinks, I thought the first Xen level and the boss fight against the queen headcrab thing were god damn awesome. BUT THE LAST 2 LEVELS. WERE THE WORST. THINGS. EVER.

VALVE SUCCEEDS AT LEAVING A HORRIBLE TASTE IN MY MOUTH, GREAT JOB GUYS

Excuse me, but could you go into details as to why?
I'm speaking from a curiousity and design perspective, personally I found the last few levels a bit challanging but once you learned a few more techniques it was managable. Honestly I was glad a game finally brought the concept of a final boss back.
So let me know exactly what your experience and actions were please, okay?

Actually, I sort of remember feeling the last level was a bit disappointing.

I remember feeling irritatingly excited upon the prospect of killing a giant alien thingy that somewhat resembled a human baby. wacko.gif

No, actually, getting rid of "mother" for The Innocent Abandoned reminded me more of connecting one of those tree-huggers to the power-lines of a nuclear power plant. Didn't make me feel half as bad as I expected.

In case anyone cares!

http://www.primotech...-life-2-portal/

I'm not sure if this actually works or not because my PC would explode into little tiny pieces if I tried to run Portal on it, but I'm sure you rich nerds with amazing computers could spare the time to try this out.

Also, in my closing statement about Half Life sucking, I have to admit that I think Opposing Force is motherfucking fantastic. It totally makes up for the lame engine by having way less platforming and way cooler weapons/environments/enemies/characters/dialogue/everything than the original game did. See also: Otis the fat security guard, Adrian's fellow soldiers, arm-mounted Barnacle used as a grappling hook, X-Aliens, teleporter gun, advanced headcrab mutations, etc. Why the hell Valve decided to label this game non-canon is beyond me, it's by far the most enjoyable and interesting thing resulting from HL1.

Since Gearbox also did Blue Shift and Decay, I may consider checking those out sometime in the near future!

Since when? Hell, there's been a quote of the possibility of Shepard returning in a future Half-Life game, possibly in EP3 or later.

Yeah, I loved the Orange Box, every bit of it. Enough said on my part.

Hey guys, why don't we start a Team Fortress 2 server? That's one quality murder simulator!

I looked at the page you linked, but would you mind explaining why it is believed that they're a bunch of idiots? I do not know them at all.

Probably due to the whirring shitstorm of games they've previously been involved with.
