And yet they still try to call it "Mother" these days. pinch.gif I've played Earthbound. Twice. Add me to your list.

Sorry, I should clear that up with people I know IRL. The internet doesn't really count in this case, as it includes people who live in areas where the game was released(such as your fine self). Earthbound never had a PAL release, thus nobody here knows of it.

Jariten: How did you manage to get it before us? Did you get an import? Oh, wait, you speak Japanese, and are somewhere in Asia, aye? How are you, anyway? You don't pop in much anymore.

Yes, I'm in Japan, so I just walked into an electronics shop and picked it up. I'm grand, thanks for asking! I've actually cut down my internet time quite a bit all round, its not just Chefelf. I do miss those old SW discussions though...anyway...

looktothesky- I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean is the original Mario Bros level one of the maps?

Single player is still boring, even on the higher difficulty settings the computer is stupid. The story mode is also dull, BUT playing it over wi-fi is massively addictive.

I'm playing as Ike now, who is frustrating in some respects (slow) but really satisfying in others (smashing 2 people off the screen with his forward b attack!)

Bzzt, wrong answer. I'm an Aussie and I've been playing Earthbound for years.

Imports, y'all.

It was fun to see Onett, Fourside and New Pork City as playable stages. I'd love to see Moonside though... that would be wacky enough to probably give me a seizure. Or maybe Pokey in his spider mech as a boss in The Subspace Emissary.
I'm not pessimistic; I've just realised that the light at the end of the tunnel is an incoming train.

SPOILER
Pokey is a boss in the Subspace Emissary - or at least, he's in the game. I've seen quite a few screens of him.

Oh, you're shitting me.

If not that is quite possibly THE most awesome thing I've ever heard, next to Achmed the Dead Terrorist.

looktothesky, if I actually get to play against the chubby little fucker when I get my mitts on Brawl, I will attempt to play you in recognition of the awesome news you have given me.

Well, its been a bit over a week now (in the US), anyone have any feedback?
Porky is indeed a boss in Subspace Emissary

It appears to me:
1) The controls have been improved. I prefer to use the Gamecube controller, and I can see a difference in the way this one handles, as opposed to Melee. Or maybe my coordination has improved. mellow.gif

2) The graphics are lovely. The detail on the characters is very impressive. The only thing is, Mario has slimmed down considerably, and his arms freak me out. They seem to demonstrate how huge his head is, and I can't look at him for to long or I get scared. blushing.gif

3) The story mode is interesting and challenging.

4) Am I the only one who gets a serious Kingdom Hearts vibe from this game? I think its the coloring, the shading and the bosses and minions.

Anybody else love and/or hate it?

I like it more than I thought I would, and I already knew I'd like it a lot. I loved the original, but didn't have a Gamecube so didn't get to play Melee often.

However, the times I did get to play Melee at a friend's or whatever, I found the controls to be awful, and I don't think there was any way to customize them. So I agree, Dorothy, that the controls have been improved. I love the customization ability but I can use the default just fine, which surprises me, because I suck at the Melee Gamecube controls.

The story mode adds a lot, I think. That was one thing that always disappointed me about both of the previous SSBs, no real plot. SubSpace Emissary is really cute and fun, though, as well as a good way to kind of be forced to play with characters you wouldn't normally choose to play with, and discover that you might be able to kick butt with that one.

It's also great that there's so much to do. I only have a couple levels left to beat on the SSE on normal, yet there's still so much to unlock and so many little subtle secrets hidden throughout the game.

I also think what they did with the addition/subtraction of characters was pretty good, though I still could think of a few characters they should have added. And they all look beautiful. I even find myself pausing from time to time just to get a closer look at the old game characters in their new, sleek forms.

Great online play, great multiplayer play.

If anyone wants to battle me online, PM me and maybe we can trade codes. If I like you. tongue.gif

The pic of the week on homestarrunner.com is a Trogdor custom level of SSB:Brawl. tongue.gif I thought it was jolly good fun the one time I've been able to play it so far. I don't think I will ever get over resenting the Excite Bike assist trophy for killing me. *shakes fist*

It's all the same good awesome stuff, the weakest part of the game is definently Subspace, this game isn't ment for the platforming you do in that mode. You'll fall through platforms if you don't land on it just right and using the ladders was just fucking torture, espically when you're trying to get through it on Intense when a simple mistake by the awkward control scheme can kill you.

Plus, the last level when you have to fight all those bosses and evil characters was just drawing the mode out further and I thought about quiting so many times because of how much of a pain in the ass it was, but I had to if I wanted to play the characters I wanted on Brawl mode.

It's also always laggy online, I've been disconnected 4 times out of the 10 or so matches I've played.

Besides that it's awesome.

Out of curiosity of you brawlers, what characters are you taking a liking to?

I still use my old standbys of Ness and Jigglypuff but am quite enjoying Ike, Lucario and Wolf.

The Pokemon Trainer is fun to play with, but not the best fighter. I just enjoy the silly pokemans. tongue.gif My best fighters so far are Pit, Lucario, Meta Knight, DK, and Pikachu. I think I'm good with Pikachu and DK because that's who I was best with in the original game and I guess I'm just used to them.

I like some of the other characters a lot but haven't really had a chance to practice with them very much - I had been focusing on the Subspace Emissary. I got nearly all the way through the big last level of Subspace Emissary but lost my game because I was playing on my bro's Wii over the break, and apparently SSBB save files don't transfer over SD cards like other games. So I have to do the whole thing over again. Grah. But it's fun so I don't mind so much.

Yeah I noticed that save file transfer deal. Thought it was pretty lame. I guess it's their way of keeping people from unlocking all sorts of stuff via net/friends. Means your friends who haven't unlocked everything have to (or don't own the game to begin with!)

As far as Characters, I have always loved Mr. Game and Watch (bacony bacoooon), I now like Lucas quite a bit, but hands down favorite is Wario. I can't help it. I know, it's disgusting. wub.gif
