Part of it may be that I've played Super Metroid to death, so it's not even mildly interesting for me anymore. I liked Fusion better, anyway, if only because of the fucking fantastic scare factor.

I did pick up MP3 for the first time in like a week today, and that Phazon War Golem guy kicked my ass harder than anything else I've come up against in the past 3 years. :<

My problem with Fusion was that it brought you along on rails the whole time, until you got to the very end where the only thing left to do was beat the boss because all other doors are locked until after you beat the game. It was pretty and lots of fun, but being forced to go to specific places all the time isn't Metroidy much for me. And yeah, War Golem sucks. A LOT.

What I played: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Official Site
What I expected: A Lag-fest AND poor graphics

What I got: An extremely enjoyable objective-based team game, though still slightly laggy--and I was playing on an IBM T43 Thinkpad! blink.gif

Played: God of War

Expected: Gaming Nirvana; I'd heard nothing but great things and was really excited to try something ostensibly new.

What I got: A really lame button masher.

Was I doing something wrong (other than listening to the guy who told me I'd love it)?

What I Played: Elite Beat Agents

What I Expected: A game that I would try out of simple curiosity and probably return within a few days

What I Got: A video game gem; charming, cute, stupidly hilarious, addictive, sadistically challenging, and too much damn fun to put down that it was the sole reason for the death of my previous DS Lite. A game that I wouldn't sell even for a million dollars-- well, maybe a million dollars because then I could buy a thousand copies of Elite Beat Agents and spread their dancing joy the world.
