Pretty self-explanatory, but in case all y'all are still confused, I will elaborate with an example!

What I played: Tales of Symphonia.

What I expected: An action RPG done in a cutesy anime art style that possesed a fun, real-time combat system, a well-written story full of breathtaking plot twists and emotional moments, endearing, lovable characters, and deep, thought provoking dungeon crawls.

What I got: A horribly written script full of ham acting, a plot that would be considered shitty even by Japanese Role-Playing standards, a combat system that consists of you pushing right on the control stick and mashing the A button to gain victory, and terribly simple dungeon design that made me constantly ask myself the question, "Jesus Christ, do these guys think I'm retarded?" Not to mention a selection of party members that might as well be smiley faces painted on 2x4s. They're about that useful in combat, too.

If you get it now, feel free to proceed. It doesn't have to be something you were let down by, either, it could be a SURPRISE PIECE OF AWESOME or just something that was way different than what you expected.

Also, it doesn't have to be this convoluted!

you think thats a bad game, try playing "Unlimited Saga"
Peter Brady was by far the ugliest Brady kid on the "Brady Bunch". I mean, they were all pretty ugly, and the fact that the Brady dad wanted to always take the boys out on overnight camping trips just a tad bit too often, gave me the creeps.

What I played: a cute girl I found attractive while in college

What I expected:a piece of ass, a couple of dates, and some benefits

What I got: a piece of ass, my ring on her finger, her emotional baggage & daily drama,..and her kids from another dude & 1/2 of my paycheck supporting them.

I think part of the reason I hate this game enough to consider it the worst piece of electronic entertainment ever published is because of the piss-retarded fanbase. I don't think even FF7 fanboys are this awful.

I love FF7 too, but you have to admit that the fanbase is horrible.

I'd tell you to google "FF7 cosplay" for a good example but I don't want your eyes to jettison violently from their sockets

Horrible, HORRIBLE, indeed.

In all seriousness though, PS is right in most cases. But that goes to any kind of cosplay, not just FF7.

I enjoyed Tales of Symphonia. But let me state, I had to play it twice. The first time I gave up because the game was clunky, the second time was when I really enjoyed it. The main detracting point was possibly the vanilla story and over cliche characters. Kratos? Kratos? Jesus H. Christ. At least Lloyd, Sheena and Zelos were fun.

I do think that the somewhat simplistic dungeons were a good point. I'm not a big fan of the overdeveloped dungeon crawl (this coming from an old D&D player). You should get in and get out, with some goodies for those who choose to explore. The puzzles were a laugh though. They were easy but required a lot of running around. More or less there to make the dungeons feel longer.

I think ToS could have been a lot worse but it could have been a lot better.

On another note... I wish more cosplayers were like that. You know.. dressed appropriately and bathed.

Jesus H. Christ.

Jesus had a middle initial? I wonder if Satan does too?...Lucifer X. Satan??

what about other biblical characters?

Pontius Q. Pilate?, Mary T. Magdalene?, John D. Apostle?, Noah S. Ark? Mr. Adam W. & Eve P. Eden?

It's Howard be thy name, you blasphemer...

NEwayz, I haven't played a console game for a long while, but this one's from memory:

What I played: Katamari Damacy

What I expected: What expectations could one possibly have for this game? I expected there would be lots of cows and be incredibly odd.

What I got: I was disappointed to find only one level centered around cows. There were other instances of cows, like that mother cow who charges you when you pick up her calfs (calves?) but still not a very cow-centric game. One out of two's not bad, I guess.

What I played: Killer7

What I expected: A surreal rail shooter with shitty gameplay and a mindfuck story to make up for it.

What I got: A surreal rail shooter with great gameplay and a wierd-but-comprehensible story that doesn't break any new ground as of where I am in the game (just finished Cloudman) but is really really well written and acted, and filled with a bunch of FANTASTIC characters.

I think Suzie (the disembodied head that gives you the rings) is my favorite.
