GUYS SOMEONE DOESN'T LIKE A GAME I THINK IS REALLY GOOD, HE MUST BE TROLL ZOMG!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, I left 4chan for this place because I was absolutely sick of it. It was fun for a while, sure, but in the end all it did was leave me with a foot fetish and a bunch of retarded memes stuck in my head.

I joined here mistaking it for a place where I could present my opinion about games without idiots like Sniffles going absolutely batshit nuts about how I don't like some game the internet seems to constantly ejaculate over even after I have stated several times the different reasons why I think it is a piece of shit. But I guess I was wrong and the closest place to a smart forum on the internet is still I-Mock, dwindling though the population of that place may be.

Or mabye Sniffles is just such a huge venomous dickhole that he makes the entire forum feel like it's full of dumbasses, because you other guys seem totally Keenan and Kel. And by Keenan and Kel I mean great!

Just for the sake of getting my dumb ass kicked, I'm going to present my opinions on the matter. And I'd like to say in advance that they ARE just opinions and not gospel truth; so any trolls out there who want to flame me for them are more than welcome to; but they're not allowed to whinge and bitch like epileptic polar bear cubs if I decide to return the courtesy.

Now then.

I'm by no means an expert on the matter; I'm simply another guy who likes video games. Particularly the RPG and FPS genres, but also a few others. I play Dungeon Keeper and Evil Genius because I like having my own personal army at my beck and call. I play Metroid Prime and DOOM 3 because blowing up aliens and mutations is a sure-fire way to get a massive victory boner because you've just painted some poor fucker against a wall five hundred metres away. I play Twilight Princess, Final Fantasy and Secret of Mana because Christ knows how much I like the idea of running around with a piece of metal and putting the pointy end in people I don't like. Long story short, I game a lot.

I'm a fairly easygoing guy; I even managed to find a couple of good points in Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest (and two of the three don't actually count). A game has to do a lot to piss me off.

Now then, Halo and Half-Life.

I played Half-Life first. To be truthful I liked it. It was by no means a stellar FPS and after playing it AFTER finishing Prey and F.E.A.R made it look about as aesthetically pleasing as a fat redneck named Bud sleeping in his own vomit. Ignoring the graphics and overall standard formula for these games, it was fine. The AI was retarded but at least it was a fun retarded; and you can't pass the idea of clubbing a dripping tentacled alien to death with a fucking wrench. You see bad guys, you shoot them, bad guys fall down. That's all you need in an FPS. You're there to kill shit not admire the scenery. But what people seem to forget so easily these days is that graphics aren't the meat and potatoes of gaming; they look pretty and all but they're not the crux of it. Good games rely on things like story, control setup and overall fun had while playing the damn thing; not sitting there commenting on the graphics like you're one of the judges of American Idol. "Ooh I just LOVED what you did with those midgame bosses but I'm just not seeing your passion for it. You look like an eight-bit sprite with renal failure and I'm sorry but I just can't see you getting very far. By the way, does this turtleneck make me look fat?"

Halo is the opposite end of the graphics spectrum. I played that and I was impressed by the level of shiny; and more so by the inventive weaponry - I especially loved the Needler weapon. But when it came down to it I enjoyed Halo as much as I enjoyed Half-Life - because as far as I was concerned they may as well have been the same game; only one looked like ass and one looked like a supermodel's ass. There was nothing about Halo that particularly stood out to me; just as there was in Half-Life. I enjoyed both because it's endless fun to run up behind some camping fuckwit and cave his brains in with the default melee weapon or run a rocket up a sniper's ass from two hundred yards away. But when it all comes down to it -

They're. Just. Games.

I guarantee, twenty years from now if we're not brains in jars with the Internet hooked directly to our lobes, our kids are going to be arguing over this same crap. "Dude, Angelus looks shitloads better than that old game Fission. Its multiplayer is much better and all the Xbox 1080 fans have been looking forward to it for ages and Fission was really just a one-hit wonderturkey!" And when WE try to point out the games we played in our day we're gonna get laughed out of the room for playing such primitive shit.

In other words, you can argue, complain or whack off about these games as much as you want - because it's all a moot point anyway and one of these days people ARE going to forget about it because something "better" is going to take its place.

I'm Legion, the Ranting Gryphon worshipper, and that's all I have to say about that.
I'm not pessimistic; I've just realised that the light at the end of the tunnel is an incoming train.

A few points I should make:

1. Sniffles is not always so much a dick. He just a bit hypocritical when it comes to fanboyism.

2. Halo is a well executed FPS. Half-Life is a well exectued FPS. Halo = Half-life.

3. Legion is right. We'll all be old and playing singing praises of these games whilst new gamers bad-mouth us, so arguing now about how good these games are is pointless. Legion didn't mention that it would would be just as pointless to not argue about them. At least arguing has something to show for itself after.

4. Just because your posts are full of meme doesn't mean you're from 4chan. Encyclopedia Dramatica can learn you all that, and you don't have to lower your standards by going on 4chan.

5. Someone is not a troll if their opinion offends you. I'm sure P.Saucy didn't mean to start a flamewar. If anyone started a flamewar, it's been Sniffles.

Now that's said, can we stop with the "YOU DON'T LIEK MY FAVOURITE GAME? STFU!! YOUR DUM AND THE GAMES YOU LIEK AR GAE"? Let's have a bit of structure. State your opinion, present your argument and evidence.

Legion you're playing the 'lifes too short card' in a forum where we argue about what 'Chzo's grand plan was all along!' and stuff like that.

I cannot stand Halo in the slightest. Maybe it's the repetitive enemies, maybe it's the annoying shield-noise that I kept hearing over and over from the first game (do-do-do-do-dooooo...). I only played the first game, and I stopped there, it was total garbage to me.

I loved Half-Life, that game is excellent. The second one is better by far, though. I cannot play the first one at all anymore. I played it when it came out, and that's it. Playing it now would just make me sick.

And Duke3D? Goldeneye? Those are just classic. Sure, maybe they didn't age gracefully, but I have a lot of fond memories of multiplayer with those. Oh! And the first Quake as well.

Oh yeah, Saucy? Don't you wish they brought DrumMania over here? sad.gif I mean, sure, we have BeatMania, and a kind of Guitar Freaks (though not as good)... why not DrumMania?

I'm actually looking forward to trying Guitar Hero. That's a damn novel way to play a game. Now if only you could put in your own songs and some sort of algorithm figures out the buttons and such; I would be rocking the fuck out.

Prodian: You are correct. I didn't point that out however because then it'd look like I'm supporting the fangirl flame war. It is by all means and standards damn good entertainment but I can't make it look like I'm egging people on or people will get angry and try to eat my face. Besides, a little healthy competition and debate is a good thing; but let's keep the dick-measuring aspect of it to PM. This is why I gave up trying to talk sense into people on GaiaOnline. That's like trying to hold back a fat chick in front of a McDonalds dumpster after a rat just went through the deep fryer.

El Presedente: Actually I meant to play the "Same Shit, Different Smell" card; but I can see now that you're correct as well. If I simultaneously play the "Unheeded Cry to Reason" and "Elitist Bastard" cards as well I can special summon a Blue Eyes Cock Dragon to anally rape the writers of the entire Yu-Gi-Oh series as well as making Paris Hilton's brain explode.

Legion: Stay the fuck away from the whiskey cabinet.

I didn't try to start a flamewar. All I did was disagree with Professor Saucy, then I said I was going to do something horrid to him, then I said he was a troll. And I said he was a troll because I thought he was bashing Half-Life just to aggravate people, and I misread some posts. But I still think insulting a nine year old game that revolutionized the first person shooter just for some petty things like its control scheme is completely wrong. It's like saying Citizen Kane is terrible because it's picture quality is terrible. If defending Half-life makes me a fanboy, then so be it.

And for the record, I go on 4chan too, so I know an attention whore when I see one.

4chan isn't blocked by bt. I visit occasionaly if I feel the need to be disgusted, baffled and amused in equal amount. I feel the "blocked in the uk" thing is a lie.

I would have to agree a BIT on the review. Halo 1 was the ultimate game for the xbox, and I played it a bit too much. When 2 hit the marked, I didnt play through it. When halo 3 then hit the marked, I played though it just to see the end of the story. The game was short, too short. I've played a lot of RPG's in my time, and even though FPS'es arent supposed to be the "storytellingartform" that RPG's are, I still felt that I missed something.

So I searched google for books, and I found 3 books from the halo universe. To be honest, I could live without halo 3, but the books, never. The halo universe is a whole lot deeper than the games show you, I think thats the problem, you dont feel the master chief evolving, you dont even know why the hell they call him master chief. The books tell you that, the books tell you why there arent any other spartans, the books tell you why master chief is so quiet. Bla bla bla. Read the books, play the game, and you will enjoy the game alot more.

Still, its gay that the developers think that you need to read a book before playing a game to really understand the background.

I read one of the books, I was Ok but the Halo universe just feels like a watered down version of Warhammer 40k but less belivable in a setting sense (40k was created to be a setting as opposed to being a setting spun off from an original story, like everything else) and as such can't help but feel that we don't really need halo, because everything its done has been done before.

Master Chiefs traumatic becoming of a super soldier: Been done 1 million times in every space marine book and comic (just read damnation crusade, its a cracker).

The day to lives and millitary hypocracy of the regular joes in the UNSC: Been done one million times in every imperial guard novel

The mystery of the forerunners: the old ones etc
Flood: Tyranids/Chaos/Necrons
Covenant: Eldar/Tau and even the Imperium of man itself.

And all the factions are of ambiguous morallity instead of Man=Good, Aliens=Bad.

And the same goes for Starcraft too.

THE END

I'm not sure what's going on in this thread now, but if we're still talking about Half Life, Sniffles yelling at me probably isn't going to get me to like it.

I did re-buy HL2 today, and the fact that I found 1 so god awful makes me appreciate how great the second one is!

Actually, I had heard that Starcraft was going to be a 40k game, but GW pulled out...or was it Warcraft and WHFB? In any case, yeah, they make it pretty clear they've been "inspired by" GW. Click on the dwarf bird rider thingy long enough in Warcraft3 and he'll say "This Warhammer costs me 40k heh heh heh".

And yeah, "Master Chief = Imperial Space Marine" has not stopped being said throughout 40k sites.
