.................that the Jedi Knights don't seem to fair well in lightsaber duels against Sith Lords.

Episode I -Two experienced Jedis can't beat one Sith Lord. In fact Obi-Wan had to catch Maul off guard to win.

Episosde II- Not one, not two, but three Jedi can't beat on elderly Sith Lord. One Jedi gets wiped out easily by a lame Bounty hunter.

Episode III- Obi-wan defeats Anakin. Well that's a draw since Anakin oviously survives.

Episode IV- Obi-Wan loses to Vader.

Episode V- Vader beats the snot out of Luke Skywalker.

Epsiode VI- Finally Luke Skywalker {the spawn of a Sith Lord} defeats Luke Skywalker. But, he gets felled by the Emperor and needs his fallen father to rescue him.

Sheesh no wonder the Jedi became extinct. dry.gif

You forget the face off between Yoda and Dooku. Farcical combat sequesnce aside. The one thing I did like about this scene was the way Yoda was able to demonstate how a fully trained and controlled Jedi was capable of combating the Dark Side.

This one scores a draw of course as Dooku escapes.

It's one of the few scenes with dialogue that actually lends credence to what is said later in Empire. When Luke asks if the Dark Side is stronger Yoda replies quite strongly "No!". I believed him in Empire, but at the very least someone watching chronologically would also have another frame of reference because they've seen it.

The answer to your question (if you can call it a question) is sumed up beautifully in SPACE BALLS. In the final battle between Lord Helmut and Lone Starr, Helmut delivers the statement which is

"So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph, because good is dumb."

Sadly that may be the best explanation we can expect.

All it would take is for this to occur to Mel Brooks and he'll be all over that like Matzo Ball Soup on Passover.

Chef, I think you need to get Mel signed up on to this forum. He will have a lifetimes pool of material to work with. Of course this may incroach on the grounds of some of our other resident film makers, but I'm sure they'll be happy to play nice if it's Mel.

A few years ago, my brother-in-law asked me: "did you ever notice they only have lightsaber duels on spacecraft?" He's not the biggest sw fan, so I was entertained with the question. (this was pre-aotc) let's see: SW: DS (and Luke trained on the Falcon;) Emp: well, that was kind of like a space city, I guess; Jedi: DS2; TPM: that... place was kind of a spacecraft, right?....(turns out I can't remember *how* they got there. that's what a lack of repeat viewings will do for the recall.)

So it's not really a valid argument. But it evoked reverence for the OT, so it's not all bad smile.gif

For the record:

ANH- Ben vs. Vader on the Death Star
ESB-Luke vs Vader on Bespin City
ROTJ-Luke vs Vader on the Death Star Again
TPM-In the castle on Naboo
ATOC-Multiple incohesive battles that occur on some rock planet that we could care less about.

Open letter to Mel Brooks:

Mel, I am a competent though non-union AD with some indie experience. I can manage sets of hundreds of people, with complicated shoots and random tempers. I am a good fit for any team. If my experience doesn't pass muster, I am also a trained and competent script supervisor, and on a personal note, I am a fan. Sure, we all think you dropped the ball with MEN IN TIGHTS, but YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and HISTORY OF THE WORLD PART I were among my favorites in high school. I won't bother to praise BLAZING SADDLES. Its success speaks for itself.

I personally believe that a parody of the prequels would fare much better than SPACEBALLS, and I would take great pride on putting my name on it, even as a lowly PA. Hell, to work on it, I'd even watch ATTACK OF THE CLONES and whatever they call the next one!

There, Chef. Now send out the invite cool.gif
