This could be old news, but I've looked around quite a bit and haven't seen anything else addressing this issue.

I was a little stumped in the final scene of the game so I did a little search for tips and came across this thread:

It seemed like a lot of people were having the same problem in the final scene.

If you typed "die" at any time in that scene, he would say he wasn't ready yet, and eventually you'd just lose the game.

People speculated that typing "move" 47,000 times would cause him to be tired enough to die, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

What does make a difference is if you save the game during this scene and reload that save later. The important messages that Trilby says periodically (breathing felt like a buzz saw and more importantly that the only thing keeping him alive was his will) seem to be on a timer that starts when the scene loads. If you save your game half way through this scene and then have to reload, the timer will start over, but the scene will be half over. This means you won't get that final message from trilby that activates the "die" command.

It seems like a simple problem of the game not saving the state of this timer, so it just resets when you restore a previous save.

Like I said, I'd be surprised if this wasn't already pointed out somewhere, but it seems like a lot of people are reporting this problem and I haven't seen any solutions that worked.

I was stuck on this scene until I played it all the way through from "touch stump" and the 55BC cut scene. After that it worked fine.

I don't know if Yahtzee still fixes bugs on these games, but it would probably work to either disable the save feature in this scene or somehow make it save the state of that timer to prevent this bug from occurring.

BTW, I love these games, and made a donation after playing the first one. Between the games and the Zero Punctuation reviews, this has become one of my favorite sites on the web.

Also, after seeing how well these games work I'm interested in starting my own AGS game. smile.gif

What you described isn't a bug... at least, I don't think it is. You see the little timer thing (ie the amount of time between the beginning and when you can actually type DIE) is started when you make Trilby move. If you just have him lay there, the timer never starts and you lose. Likewise, if you wait too long to make him move, you can't die in time. Chances are, in your saved game, you hadn't told him to move yet (and the list of movements is huge... my favorite is 'Kill Lenkmann') and there wasn't enough time for him to move and still die. That's happened to me before. Actually, the only reason I won the game was because I was, basically, button mashing. I spent the entire scene using random phrases and joking used 'DIE' at the end.

Sorry, that was probably somewhat tl;dr. I tend to ramble a lot.

Ditto.

Don't you hate it when you can't find matching socks?

I do hate it.
I didn't even button mash at that scene, for fear of screwing something up. I just typed move at some point near the beginning of the sequence, and eventually got through it, Haha.
