It hasnt even been 24 hours yet, and Ive heard more than my fair share of Britney Spears giving a lackluster performance at last night's MTV Music Awards.

In all honesty, I did not watch the program when it aired. I was at work, and the guys who brought in a tv wanted to watch the Cowboys/Giants game. (which i feel was a better thing to watch anyways)

When I casually checked the news on my cell phone, I saw nothing but reports indicating that Spears gave a horrendous performance. "that she was fat" "looked like she had taken elephant tranquilizer prior to appearing on stage" "her hair was a mess" "she wasnt into her dance moves at all, and was just going thru the motions until the song ended"

I think society has coined Britney Spears, not necessarily her in particular..but any girl that embraces characteristics being of Britney, she is likely to be called a "Britney Spears". What most arent willing to accept, or tend to think with a one track mind, is that Britney Spears is supposed to be America's sweetheart diva, this is far from the case. Even when she debuted, she was percieved as a good girl with bad girl tendencies. Now, she is full-on naughty..no holds barred raunchy. (where is the censorship?) The "Madonna" of the 21st century.

I think the main problem is that many still have this image of Britney Spears painted forever in their heads of her in her cute white top and plaid skirt ala her "Oops I did it again" video. The girl has aged, folks. She got married, had a kid, went thru a lot of stress and gained a few pounds in the process,..shes not going to retain that nostalgic image you have trapped forever in your feeble head.

So I viewed the video online, I had expected the worst...I heard reports that 50 Cent and Diddy gave her cold steel glares like "what the hell is this bitch doing on stage?" ...honestly, when I viewed the video, her performance wasnt all that bad. it wasnt her best,.but it was different...and being that it was different, maybe thats exactly what she is after..is to differentiate from her known work. If she is making a comeback, then maybe she plans to comeback a little different.

If the performance is as bad as some say it is, then maybe she is trying to kill off her career. Maybe she doesnt want to be "Britney Spears-pop diva" anymore. Maybe she is tired of the media infiltrating her life, maybe she just wants to be left the fuck alone. I dont think a month has passed that some mention of Britney hasnt been on the front cover of some tabloid ever since the drama between her a K-Fed started. If my personal lovelife and drama was featured on national papers for months on end, id probably start smoking or stacking on the pounds too. Its funny that some of the worst critics are those that wouldnt/couldnt do the same things that Britney does.

and Im not trying to sympathize with her, the girl has made her fair share of mistakes in her life and has learned from them. but with all being said, she isnt doing too bad. the question to ask is: is britney spears really trying to make a comeback on her own merit?, or at the persuasion of fan pressure and her record label management? ..personally, I think she is tired from it all. I dont think she wants to be "Britney Spears" anymore. shes tired of the gossip, the media, the rumors,..and if she really did give a lackluster performance,.it was her way of saying "kiss my ass fuckers, heres something for you to talk about, now stay the fuck out of my personal life"

IMHO, i think critics have become stearnly harsh over the years. I feel they have become too judgmental, too abrasive. they dont cut slack for anything., and if the slightest thing seems awry, they are quick to label as being horrid. its a shame, this is the music industry, and I thought music was a form of expression, and being in that, it wouldnt hurt to lend an open ear and eye and allow yourself to enjoy it more fully, and not be so quick to judge a book by its cover. Im not just referring to Britney, but all genres of music.

heres the video, in case you havent seen it.

She was lip synching to her music whilst prancing around in a black bikini. The difference between spears in 1998 and now is nothing, save bad publicity and age. Technically she is no worse or better of an artist.

I for one don't care if she married some guy, did something at a club, had this many kids... It's all bollocks. These hollywood starlets complain about press, have nervous break downs, whatever, you don't fucking like it move from LA.

She's an entertainer. She's an aging entertainer. Her fan base are my age, mid 20s. If she wants to keep them interested or real them back in, then she needs to re-invent herself. Which she can't since she knows nohting outside big production. She pays some one to write her music, she pays some one to pen the lyrics, and she pays some one to set up her dance shows. She can perform though, but not without immense aid.

Woah, she's certainly no Madonna.

I've been hearing so much about it, too - I heard the song on the radio, it was pretty bad. Almost as bad as Paris Hilton's single. But I haven't been able to find a clip of her performance, and that link you posted, Ses, doesn't work for me.

I never liked Spears, even though when she was at her most popular, I was n that perfect age group to like her. She just went from bubble gum pop to slutty oversynthed pop. I don't get what's the big deal, or why people care to study her life so much.

Sounds a lot like Elvis, wouldn't you think? wink.gif

She's run her race; let the girl retire, eh? unsure.gif

I don't know how old you are, but Spears is my age. As a rule of thumb, nobody her age and above liked her, or was open about it. Is that the perfect age group you were talking about?

Spears may have been cool to 12 year olds. But teenagers during her best years were more into bands in their early late 20s. Infact, anything with the word 'teen' in it "teen sensation" etc.. does not appeal to teens, they're too busy trying to act 20.

The press always gave her a hard time cause she played up sex appeal. Her first music video got her introuble, the whole school girl gone bad thingy.

The best thing she can do to ressurect her carreer would be to shoot herself. I'm serious. Right after she kills herself, her most open critics will begin this heart-tugging campaign about a troubled misunderstood girl. She'll be the coolest person ever for like 2 months. Tragic! People magazine will do a full issue on her life. We'll all feel guilty too.

I'm 20. When Spears first came out and started getting popular, I was in 12 or 13, I think. I don't know how old she was at the time, but I do know that almost my entire school was enthralled by her and N*Sync for just about all three years of junior high. I never understood it.

Ya so you were the odd one out. That age group usually buys into the teen scene.

Which is cool~ I always followed what was 'in' from ages 10-18.

It sad to say but i think Sarah Silverman
was right with her jabs at Britney in
the beginning og the show.

At the tender age of 25, Britney is worn
out, like completely and its gonna take more
than a week for her to rejuvenate hereelf and her career.

The way she ended her "chart topping success"
with a greatest hits album.
ummm. . . . WHAT?!?!?!

Not to mention her countless personal mistakes
that are splatter everywhere.

It maybe be over for her if she doesn't
get it together and puts more into her career.

Duct tape is like the force....

There's a lightside, a darkside

and it holds everything together

Lets see any child star not grow up to be a mental.

Michael Jackson, Anyone?

Fact is, if you spend that much of your life from such an early age in the spotlight, you're going to go mad. All Britney is is a hick who got famous.

As far as I'm concerned, she's no more or less of a travesty after the VMAs than she was before them.
The real crime committed by that awards ceremony was Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." losing out to that retarded Rihanna video.

True, except now she's a fat travesty. tongue.gif

As for the other artists, I didn't pay much.

The VMAs were all made obsolete when OKGO released the video for "Here it Goes Again".

For those who haven't seen it, SHAME ON YOU.

But here it is:

Oh, and yeah, she's not fat. She actually looks healthy, which can't be said for most other female pop starlets. And give her a break either way, she's had kids. I personally think she looked pretty good, aside from being dressed like a cheap French harlot and appearing to be blitzed on either drugs or alcohol.
Also, OK Go should be shot, and then written out of the pages of music history forever. They are one of the absolute worst bands on the planet.

Agreed.

That video's amazing though.

EDIT: After watching the Britney video again - FAT? Let's be honest, if she offered it, you wouldn't turn it down. And as for 'Fiddy Cent' giving her glares, he just had the same slack jawed reprobate look on his face that he always does.
