Nah, he just really LIKES Cuba.

But I digress. I don't mind pledging allegiance. What I mind is how much you have to do it. I'm kind of insulted, you see, because they don't actually trust me to be loyal for a span of more than 24 hours. Except over weekends. Evidently, the temptation to be disloyal to the country isn't as great on weekends.

I go once a month, and that's it. As far as I'm concerned, that's as loyal as I can be.

I just find it hilarious that any one would cherry pick a religion. I mean if most christians are insane, why bother even call yourself one?

QUOTE (Despondent @ Sep 7 2007, 11:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
What I do want to know: Whom do YOU serve?

I myself have no loyalty to anyone. Rather I have loyalty to the idea of freedom. For I believe the no one person deserves loyalty for we are all servants for the idea of freedom. That is what all humans ultimately strive for. Though the idea of freedom may vary from person to person; in the end we all wish it.

You sound like Gandhi. ohmy.gif

I agree, though; freedom isn't free. wink.gif

Have you even heard (or read a transcript from) a speech of his?

I never said that. If you believe you are free then you are free. Freedom is a state of mind.

WTF? Ghandi was crazy? Bond, what have you been smoking/reading? Ghandi believed completely in the power of political change through passive resistance. Essentially, the idea was to potentially sacrifice oneself to making a violent/authoritarian government look so bad that the protesters could rally enough support to make changes in government through peaceful measures. I certainly would not want to have to wait for groups of people to rally around my bloodied and beaten body before seeing political change take place, but Ghandi did something right, because he and his supporters managed to end Britain's imperial control over India.

He did a lot of things right, but a lot of his views don't exactly mesh with the typical (not militant or otherwise crazy) American. That article Jordan posted has some examples. Such as the thing about the Jews should have just collectively killed themselves whilst praying for the Nazis, instead of being killed in the camps.

Ah. That's right, it was in this thread. I've started reading that editorial/bibliography, and will certainly concede that Ghandi was definitely out there. Maybe I'll decide he was crazy after I finish. tongue.gif

Well, that's what happens when people sanitize well-known religious figures. Who knows what Jesus might have been like in real life? ohmy.gif

I think Jello Biafra said it best in Ministry's 'in case you didn't feel like showing up':

QUOTE

I pledge defiance to the flag of the United Snakes of Captivity

And to the Republic for which it stands, I dip it in kerosene, and stick it up the ass of you know who and light it

One nation, under God--or else

One nation, under psychopath Pentagon gangsters, whose idea of democracy is concentration camps for the people who go and use the drugs that the government supplies themselves

One nation, under Wall Street:

If the cops and the President are all criminals, I might as well be one too, ha ha!

One Nation of tabloid robots who actually believe what they see on tv, but when ask about it say “I don’t care.”

One nation, drowning in its own garbage

Indivisible from the from the fall of Rome
With liberty and justice for all who can afford it
Burn, Baby, Burn
Old Glory
The Yankee Swastika
Burn, Baby, Burn
Burn, Baby, Burn
Whenever I see you I see red
Whenever I see you I see red
If the Communists can do it, why can’t we
Throw the bastards out and try some real Democracy
Not by rich people
Not by Army people
Not by sons of senators sons of senators sons of senators sons
After all, have you noticed
The more they dole out Democracy over there
The more they take it away over here
Now, before it’s too late
Be a good boyscout
Take the Swastika
The Yankee Swastika
and let it
Burn
Burn
Burn, baby Burn

(this was under Bush#1)

Not that I'm the flag burning type.... but seriously. In a nation where 20% of the population is unnable to locate the US on a map you need some seriously new management.

Is that really true, though? I had never heard that until that Teen USA pageant. I find it hard to believe that 20% of this huge population (that would mean millions of people) can't find the U.S. on a map. I understand a smaller percentage, because of poorer places with less education, but come on. I can't find any stats anywhere that says 20% of Americans don't know where the U.S. is, but I'd love to see them if they exist.

It’s a common misinterpretation that people from the United States are stupid. Listen to me when I say this; I have met 3 Americans in my lifetime, one from Mississippi, one from Georgia and one from New York and I can say for sure that Americans are not stupid... but they are arrogant smegs.

The only americans you have spoken to are ones who know how to use computers and ones who could find australia on a map and fly there.

I'm not saying americans are stupid. Just that all coutries have a percentage of stupid people, and america just happens to have a large population (and a lot of guns and nukes) which puts them under heavier scrutiny. I'm sure Russia, China, and India enjoy a large celebration of idiots who make life just wonderfull too. Australia is no walk through a cerebral wonderland either.

the world is mostly idiots who amaze me by remembering to breath in and out.
