Oops I put has in the place of have which is plural in my last post.

Sorry about my last post above but I am offended by the attitude of that poster about devaluing users who post acronyms in an open place not related to this, and one sentence comments. I can't find much acronyms in this section of Star Wars so that user probably means me.

Times change but that gives no excuse to go round devaluing people from different forums.

What a character he was.

Well, "now that the dust has settled"... :-)

Suggestions:

* Archive the old forums. Did think for a while, and in the end figured create just two to replace the old forums: (1) An "Interesting News and Links" subforum for semi-permanent stuff, and a (2) regular forum for all else. Posts are so thin we don't need separate subforums at the moment, but if/when Lucas does something else we can add new subforums as needed.

* One-liner issue isn't resolved. Two lines of thought: (1) Some think you shouldn't be one line responses. (2) It's the forum softwares fault for adding 20 lines of junk around every post. Personally I reckon a one-line response need only take two lines: one to say who you are, and the other the response itself. Likewise would be good to be able turn sigs and post-statistics off so we can have more posts per page.

* Presentation: We need some changes here, but seems the current version of Invision can't handle them. ChefElf says he's upgrading to a new version in the near future. I really hope this improves it, because if it doesn't the above problems will continue to drag down the board.

* Moderate Early: Board has been so quiet it hasn't needed moderation for a long time, but a few more people these days. Been some tension here which in hindsight whould have sorted out earlier. Bond has gone into hiding. This isn't the best way to sort out things. Would have been better to have raised this privately with a moderator so they could come to an agreement directly. Hints and anonymous sniping don't make for happy endings. (Likewise if anyone has been hinting me and I've missed it, sorry. I can't see the vague nuances of your expression as you type! ;-)

* Some old-timers might want to make a FAQ summarising the old discussions and conclusions. There's no way a n00b will trawl through 600 pages of your old posts!

Hope the board survives, but everthing has an ending. If ChefElf decides and experiment that's run it's course someone can create a new board somewhere else and start again. Whatever the outcome, I've enjoyed this board and the discussions shared with you. As the now absent Bond said, "This is a place where people can relax"

I guess if you want new members to come aboard, then re-working the forum would be wise, since it's a bit overwhelming.

But the thing is toru chan, this board does not get many members. Even during the height of the starwars debate, we didn't draw too many new patrons.

A good chunk of the action took place between three people, Mike Mac from NYU, JYAMG, and civillian 2.

I know how you feel, however. I was a bit starved of action myself, so I attempted to bait in diehard fans of the PT, form the SW offical forums. It didn't work. At one point we actually ended up going to the SWnet forums for a few rounds. Chefelf is considered a villian over there.

The best debates are always about films here. And most of the good reading came from the people I mentioned. It's actually difficult to find some one who is passionate/knowledgable about films and who is ALSO willing to post lengthy comments and ALSO stand in defense of their points for more than a 1 page.

Redoing the SW forums is not a bad idea, but from my experience, drawing in new comers might require more work.

You make some good points, Jordan. I've suggested some changes to make the board easier, but you're right there probably won't be a sudden influx of people eager to talk about the movies. Like being the last at a party when everyone else starts leaving.

We never took a poll, but from this thread I think I'm the *only* one that's spoken in favor of a rejig. A few others have been in favor of a crack-down on one-liners, but I don't think either of these are responsible for the boards high-vacancy rate. Just that, maybe, there really is nothing more to talk about...

In which case leave things the way they are and hope(?) Lucas does something new. So either troll force.net or much less painful, lurk here until Lucas once again throws another white plastic-cum-CGI spaceship over our heads...

I think the problem here is pretty simple: the focus of this forum was on Star Wars, and now that Star Wars is more or less done with, there doesn't seem to be anywhere to go. Drastically paring down the SW forum would help to streamline the site and let the other forums get more traffic.

Then again, now that SW is finished, what will the focus of the site be? This is one of the better forums I've posted on, and I would hate to see it go, but if it's time for it to die, then so be it.

Okay, so what we could do is simply combine all the forums into one mega-forum.

When ROTS came out these forums were, obviously, at a peak. But now, more than two years later, there's really not much else to discuss. At least not on the level of what we'd discussed in the past.

With the future TV show there may be more to discuss but at the moment the forum will continue along at a moderate level.

So if everyone agrees that this is a good format I can combine everything again into one big forum for all SW talk. I sorta liked the idea about archiving the old stuff but I think it best to leave everything open.

If someone wants to compile a "BEST OF" thread I'll be happy to pin it in the forum to help people navigate. I think an FAQ may be weird since this is largely just opinionated discussion and not a technical forum.

Any other ideas?

Hi Chef, Sounds good to me. Would like one subforum where we can record useful stuff like 'Secret History of Star Wars' that would otherwise get lost. Otherwise a big mega forum sounds good. If there's sufficient traffic on a new topic, it'll be obvious when a new subforum is needed. Until then... Think the blurbs on the movies forums are great, but time moves on. Let's hope in the near future our arch-enemy George Lucas puts Star Wars on the public agenda once again.

A "BEST OF" thread is a good idea, best compiled by an oldtimer who knows where the good (and not so good) stuff is. Like I said, no n00bs will go digging for that stuff, so a quick way to find the better posts would be useful. FAQ would be opinionated, but if an oldtimer feels their words have sufficient ProphetPower™ and are willing to write it I'll hear them out.

Let's do it. (Well, by "Let's" I mean you, but I think it sounds better that way :-)

Well, stop posting one liners !

Chef will you reintroduce the little photos and amusing captions for the above? The Wit Preservation Society demands it.
